  1. That's a "you" problem. They have plenty of cap flexibility.

How are we defining flexability? Ability to sign other FA's? Or ability to resign there own FA?

Assuming they make the cuts discussed earlier in the thread (Bailey,2TE) we are talking about what, $24mil?

They'd then need to resign pretty much the entire secondary. Or sign new ones. At least 3 DL/LBs (Ayers Woodyard Phillips). As well as 3-4 offensive weapons (Moreno, Decker, Caldwell, Holliday).

I think they can kiss Moreno/Decker goodbye....Lets assume a cheap secondary and DL/LB core at $2 a piece, about 6 guys, theres $12 gone right there, the draft class will probably be around $4ish, now we are at $16. Caldwell/Holiday at $1 a piece. $18....We are looking at them having about $6mill left over to sign depth throughout the rest of the roster, with this hypothetical (and more than likely wrong) scenario.

I just cant picture the Broncos getting better, only worse....Yea they will gain Miller/Clady back which is a huge plus. But does it offset the loss of the rest of there roster? I dont think so.

  2. Whats the latest on Reggie? Have we heard any news?

Reggie IS going to be 36, and coming off of a devastating knee injury. How much can we trust him?

We've got TY. Whom I think we can trust....Whalen/Rogers/Brazil? Are we completely sold on this? What happens if we sustain an injury to TY, and Reggie is never the same? Are we set on those guys?

I think a FA veteran would fit nicely, and a nice fall back option. A low cost. Low maintenance type guy....I think someone like Jericho Cotchery would be a great benefit on this team. An excellent fall back option. Someone we could rely on 'just in case'.

  3. Volume stats are literally useless. I'm not arguing whatever your point is.

I didnt know there was a point? Were you looking for one?

Just posted each QBs #'s without a name next to them.

Indy fans think Luck is better. SF fans think Kaep is better. Sea, Wilson, and Car, Cam....But its ok we are Colts fans WE KNOW we are right....

  4. You should also list how productive each QB's rushing attack was.

Sure thing boss.....taking away each QBs rushing attempts/yards:

    Colts: 346/1366 at 3.9ypc

    Sea: 413/1649 at 3.9ypc

    Car: 372-1441 at 3.8ypc

    SF: 413-1677 at 4.0ypc

You use terrible stats. No offense.

Nothing wrong with raw numbers brochacho. We can use stats that make up down, and right left, make DMC look like the best RB in the league, or algorithm that predicts Manziel will be the best ever....Show me your STATS.

  5. Guessing game!

  6.

    Careful people....  Ever hear of

    Not too worried hombre.

Indianapolis is a small town. It was even smaller back then. And in the times of Goose/George it was even smaller....That said. Word gets around. You end up in the same places as some people on a fairly regular basis. Your able to witness things. Or know people who have been even "closer"....I can tell ya campfire stories on many local celebs....

But you're* (see Dustin, a guy can learn!) clearly biased, and Im just a rambling lunatic on a forum. You wouldn't listen to or believe anything I'd have to say about anyone, let alone someone you clearly have an attachment too.

  7. I was, I'm sure many here are/were as well.

And you never saw him out? *coughHooterscough*

I just tire of all the hero worship....Great job signing autographs and being well spoken, and being polite when your in the limelight, and near cameras.

People see 30 min of someone 1 day a week for 20 weeks a year in a controlled environment, and suddenly they are moral compasses for the masses. And words like "class" are thrown around like we actually have any idea as to what these people are truly like.

People have every right to emulate, and praise for accomplishments within the field of play, strive for that all you want, 'play the game the right way' sure....But leave it at that folks.....

  8. If your in the playoffs it isn't closed. Sorry thats the truth. Their division is getting stiffer...its the best in the AFC for sure but they have an opportunity...and while I wouldn't make them favorites they can put together a strong run or 1 great game against the NFC and they win. We preach any given sunday but we say oh they have no chance. Its hogwash. Going into the playoffs many times you would say some of the wild card teams had no chance...like NY or Pittsburg or even us in 06. Again...they won't be a favorite but they should be in the playoffs. You lose possibly the best LT in football, pro bowl lb/pass rusher, starting safety and corner and your going to face some adversity. We know teams lost more but that team was limited by its defense which wasn't strong before the injuries and overcame a big loss on its OL with great qb play and schemes. They can put together a run...its very possible. Again not a favorite but not out of the picture...like NE.

Also, they should open up almost 16 million by cutting Champ, Dreissan, and Tamme. That leaves them with as much money as we have because they already have 14-15 million now. They have holes to fill but no more than most teams not named seattle and sf. Should be able to resign Decker, Woodyard, Phillips, and Beadles....and they do have a first rd draft pick that should be able to contribute this year and maybe they hit on someone else too...it only takes a couple contributors immediately...Ball and Wolfe and Williams started to come on later in the year...they have some young guys getting better. Potroast looks awesome in the middle...add back a pro bowl caliber olb in Miller and they get better. They will be competitive...maybe not a #1 seed with the schedule they have but would you want to play Denver in the wild card game?? Maybe some would but they would be a dangerous team...and the other teams in that division have to play a similar schedule in the NFC West too.

Yes cutting them would free up some $. I assume Tamme/Dressan would have some sort of hit (I know Bailey does not)....But after cutting them they would then have to sign 3 CBs (Bailey cut/DRC FA/Harris Res. FA)...and I dont know that you want to cut both TE's and assume Orange Julius can stay healthy, because he hasn't for 3 seasons.

But with that scenario you listed I do think they could sign Woodyard/Phillips/Beadles/Decker. But I dont know that they would want too spend all the $, with both DT and Miller becoming FA the very next season, on top of Welker/Julius Thomas....

My completely uneducated guess would be to say that of the 8 or 9 premium guys entering FA this yr or next, only about 4-5 will be signed....Im willing to bet DT is a lock, and that alone is going to cost some serious coinage. (I think he could command much more than Mike Wallace did this year)

  9. I dont know that the window is entirely closed. You get the playoffs, you got a shot....that being said, I dont think there team will be as good next year, as what they are this year....I think without some serious GM work, the Broncos are going to crash and burn pretty hard in the next 2 years...

You've got Decker, DRC, Harris, Jammer, Bailey, Moreno, Woodyard, Ayers, Phillips all FA this offseason....And you cant give out to much $, because the next year you have DT, Welker, Miller, all 3 TE, and both starting DTs all hitting FA....

So you have pretty much every skill position player hitting FA, as well as all of your best defensive players hitting, in the next 2 years. You cant pay everyone, and you gotta hope you NAIL every single draft pick.....It doesnt look good going into the long term, so they gotta win now. Which is easier said than done.

My guesses would be Bailey getting cut, signing DRC long term, and over paying for it, and maybe signing Phillips to another short term deal....Harris may give them a bit of a discount due to the injury and other teams being weary. But maybe not.....They are only going to lose players this offseason, and not "gain" anything......The following year, it probably all gets burnt to the ground.

  10. I think whats so grossly appaling about some of the forum members here is how they can take clear evidence to support fact and nit pick little minisucle details (as half recievers being a few tds short of 10) and use rhetoric to say things like (you fail to recognize peyton had reciever talent) which completely tries to ignore the original point of "peyton makes a lot of recieevers better". You use a thesis to defraud my statements that puts words in my mouth how annoying. i do not fail to recognize peyton had reciever talent you fail to read buddy ;)

The fact that you fail to notice the improvements of players under mannings guidance clearly indicate a lack of understanding of the game. I continued to watch all those players i mentioned improve under manning, and do very little without him. The fact that you fail to see this is quite startling. Furthermore the fact that you refuse to recognize mannings success under multiple coaches, injuries, players, teams, gms, players etc makes me wonder if you use any logic or reasoning when choosing what eye bleeding material u posst about manning only winning because of all the talent around him.

I'd like to see this 'clear evidence to support fact' that you speak of.

I didn't put a single word in your mouth. I'd also like for you to point that out for me.

And yea, I think its kind of a given, elite qb= improved WR play....Thats not a stretch....But who did you watch do 'very little' without him?

Fail to recognize Mannings success? Lol. I lived it for nearly 15yrs bub, Im fairly well versed in Manning success....

  11. Exactly, but I can only imagine the numbers Peyton would have put up with Hines Ward instead of Marvin Harrison. Probably 5,000+ yards every year.

O easily....and the blocks Ward woulda thrown, Peyton coulda ran for another 200/5tds...

    Oh Hines Ward *swoooooons*

    Ward HoF Class of 2020

  12. This has been my philosophy for a long time.

Look at Adrian Peterson, or Calvin Johnson Jr. They're the best at their respective positions in the NFL and command a superb paycheck, but they rarely go to the playoffs, more the less win a title.

Hey now, at least when the get to the playoffs they perform lol.

Calvins played one game in the playoffs, and has as many TDs as Marvin had in his 16 game postseason career....12rec/211yds/2tds...insane.....APs been 3x, and was a Favre bonehead play away from playing us in the SB...He avgs 100yds and over a TD a game in the playoffs.... So at least when they rarely do get there they earn that $$$.

As for FA wish list....Give Mack/Byrd whatever they want.....Pray we hit on a few picks, and call it good.

  13. Yeah you're right Peyton isn't elite. If he had all these weapons that did it all for him like all their yac on screens in the sb you said they had (lawl) why didn't they put up these numbers with tebow? Peyton makes everyone look that good. I don't think it's a fluke he made decker, stokley, pollard, garçon, collie, and many other clowns into stud 10 td plus receivers. Get real.

Into stud 10+td players? 2 of those guys caught 10+tds...Stokley once, and Decker these past 2 years....

Stokley played 5 years with Peyton, and had 1 good one....Pollard was a nice TE, but Manning made him? They had 7 years together, and he had one decent year statistically.....I dont know if you know this, but Garcon just led the league in receptions this year, with a questionable QB (and it pains me to say that bc im not a believer in Garcon)....Collie? Again a pretty nice player, but Peyton doesn't deserve any blame for laying him out over the middle on several different occasions?....

The fact that you fail to recognize fairly decent WR talent throughout Peytons career, and give him the only credit, is pretty questionable.....There is a reason Peyton has achieved so much statistically, its because he was given pretty good players to work with throughout his career...Failure to recognize that is a shame.

As for Decker, he actually had a pretty solid year with Tim Tebow as his QB.

  14. Yes, I think when the razor thin margin was apparent for these accolades, the voters, all different mind you, thought "Ya know, I hate Indy, lets go with the other guy"

Mathis- Had a great year, on a bad defense. No knock on him, but looking good amongst the bad, isn't as appealing as looking good amongst the good, like Kuechly and Quinn. Both key components on quality defenses, and still shined.

Dungy- Is a borderline HoFer at best. It will take a weak class for Dungy to get in. Probably another 5+yrs till he hears his name called. If ever.

Harrison- Great player, great career. I've maintained for years he wasnt a first ballot HoFer. Many disagreed. Every accolade Marvin has he acquired from Reed, who upon retirement was in the exact same spots Marvin is, statistically. Yet, he too had to wait. And he did it in a harder place to play, and in a harder era, with an arguably less qualified supporting staff....Brown is going to get in before Marvin as well. So we will have this argument again here in a year....

Lance- At best the 3rd best player on his own team. The other 2, made the team. No snub here either. Guy has played great. But who is more important a guy like Lance, who is having a good year as the 3rd best player, or a guy like Joe Johnson, who has kept the Nets in the playoffs by himself while the rest of his team is injured? Or Derozan who has done the same (along with Lowry, who was snubbed more than Lance)....And these were coaches votes. And Lances own coach is the one leading the East. What does that tell you? Apparently he isn't looked to highly upon.

  15. I don't think it's hate. He seemed like the third best candidate by a pretty good margin and he got pushed to the front of the line.

Politics and shenanigans seem likely, but I'm eager to see what the voters write about this.

3rd best is arguable. Again, every 'record' Marvin has, he got from Reed. You cant say Marvin should be in, when the exact same guy as Marvin had waited for nearly a decade.

if brown gets in next year, the log Jam its essentially over.

This is when it gets tricky. I think with Reed now in, both Holt and Bruce are strong candidates (not first ballot by any means). Then TO, and Hines Ward, and then finally Moss. Throw in Tony G as well the following year...Those are just recieving options....Guys like LT, Farve, Warner, Seau, Taylor, Faneca, Maewa, Edge, Dawkins will all be coming out and all. Added to the list of players/coaches already waiting. ...

2015: Pace/Seau/Warner I feel are locks to be first ballot....So now there are 2 spots left in this class...

2016: Farve/TO are locks to be first ballot.....3 spots left.

2017: LT is a lock, and maybe Taylor....so 3 spots left.

    2018: Lewis/Moss are locks.....3 spots left.

so in the next 5 years, we have roughly 12 spots to fill.....Greene/Haley/Brown are getting in before Marvin....So now 9spots are available in the next 5 years....Marvin could, and should make it in 2017, maybe 2018....

  16. All this hate against Reed is ridiculous.

Upon his retirement, he was 3rd in rec, 7th TDs, and 5th in yards.....and its such a travesty that he got in??!? All of Marvins accomplishments came from Reed.....Not to mention the guy was $ in the playoffs (Marvin was a scrub).

Marvin will have his day. But I've said ad nausem for nearly 4 years Marvin wouldn't be first ballot. I don't know that Marvin gets in over Brown next year....Its looking prime for Marvin to be in the 2016 class.....Pace/Seau/Warner are available for the 2015 class, so I figure Brown/Pace/Seau/Warner/Haley.....2016 is probably the year for Colts, with Dungy/Harrison, then Favre/TO.

  17. who said anything about "supposed to play worse?"  that makes no sense at all.  I was saying that with Wayne and Allen out, and DHB not being able to catch the ball, that allowed defenses to focus their coverage on Fleener and Hilton.  That would make it more difficult for Fleener and Hilton to get open and even when they did briefly get open, having extra coverage focused on them meant there was always going to be a defender nearby to try to swat the ball away.  It had nothing to do with Fleener or Hilton playing worse, but rather the defense being able to make their jobs much more difficult with no other true threats to worry about at the time.

And as crazycolt mentioned, the OL didn't do any favors either by generally allowing instant pressure on Luck.

Again, why are other players able to excel when "defenses focus their coverage". Why was Hilton able to take his game to the next level, in the exact same situation that Fleener was in?

Why do other players in the NFL succeed when the players competing for receptions are lost for the season? Why was Harry Douglas able to have a career year after Julio/Roddy were lost or hobbled? Why was a rookie Keenan Allen able to do the exact same thing? Why are Gordon/Cameron able to flourish with a garbage team, as the only 2 options on a team of misfits?

  18. Simply looking at stats will in no way give you an idea of how the opposing defenses played Fleener and Hilton.  However, having said that, the numbers you posted do actually support my theory.  Prior to Wayne getting injured, Fleener was catching a larger percentage of passes thrown his way whereas he was only catching about half of what came his way after Wayne went out.  Because teams could focus more on covering him knowing that he and Hilton were the only 2 real big play threats at the time.  Therefore tougher coverage made passes more difficult to catch, which would explain why his catch percentage went down.

So a player who has nearly every single one of his counterparts who he competes with for catches out, is supposed to play worse?...Ty Hilton disagrees with that argument....Harry Douglas, Keenan Allen do as well.....Why are guys like Josh Gordon/Jordan Cameron able to perform, even tho the opposing team know its just those 2, and "tougher coverage made passes more difficult to catch"?....

If you wanted to make the claim that Cobys YPR would go up with Wayne/Allen, perhaps I'd get behind that statement.

  19. You don't think that, just maybe, Wayne going down, Allen missing the entire year and DHB being a non factor hindered Fleener's chances? Sure, that should have opened up more opportunities for Fleener, but it also meant that defenses didn't have to worry about covering Wayne, Allen or DHB.  Defenses could focus on Hilton and Fleener and force someone else to step up...which didn't happen for several games.

    Not really no.

Before the Wayne injury, Fleener was avg about 4.5 targets per game, pulling in 3.1......After the Wayne injury he was avg about 6.1 targets per game, and pulling in 3.3.

I dont think a single team we played this year went into a game saying "we have to stop Fleener."
