but here's the thing.  If you intentionally hold him out of preseason even though he's medically cleared, then you're sending him into game 1 on the road against an already great Rams defense that is only going to be better with Wade Phillips at the helm...he has pioneered some of the best attacking 3-4 defenses in history, and now he's got a team that yeah he's going to be making some adjustments to the scheme, but he has a lot of talent to work with.  so you'd be sending him out there with no live game action with nothing more than practice (and we all know that practices arent' what they used to be) against the DC known best for finding ways to get to the QB.

IMO, sending Luck out against Wade's defense with zero live game action is more likely to get him injured than playing him in preseason.

100% agree. Luck won't be on the same page as the receivers so he will be holding onto the ball longer and will get sacked multiple times by their front seven.

If he is is medically cleared, he should be out there. I don't get it.

A rusty Andrew Luck is still better than a lot of starting QBs in the league. Our schedule starts off easy. Everything will be fine.

We play arguably 2 top 5 defenses in Arizona and Seattle. St. Louis is a top 10 defense arguably as well. And without Luck, our offense is bottom 7 in the NFL. That's why I believe luck is truly top 2 MVP last year with Aaron Rodgers.  He's so vital to this team.

I wouldn't play him at all in the preseason. Why risk it for a meaningless game? Luck may not have quite the timing he otherwise would in L.A., but its a risk/reward balance. He will be fine without playing in preseason and it won't take him long to get back up to speed assuming he is healthy. He is entering his sixth year at this point and is a true veteran.

I don't think people realize how important reps are to a QB during the offseason. Training camp is a vital piece of preparation. Luck is one of the best QB's in the league. I honestly believed he would be MVP back in May. But with the low amount of reps he will get, and possibly missed games, it's hard to make that statement sound legitimate.

  4. We have to be the most precautious franchise in the world. Luck is in the bottom 25 percentile on his recovery time, and I have a hard time believing that he isn't able to be game ready within 3 weeks if we needed him. I don't really understand the holdup. Of course, I will watch every game this year with or without luck, but it would suck knowing we aren't going to make the playoffs before the season opener even begins. Luck needs to be getting 1st team reps in 2 weeks before the season starts or he will be incredibly rusty the first 3 or so weeks of the season anyways.

Disappointed that we are in such a confused state as a fan base right now. But I trust Ballard's approach. I just don't like it.

I'm shocked more people haven't made any real noise about the fact that haeg and mewhort have switched guard spots on the line... I get that they want a vet on each side, but I'm not so sure.

Why mess with the consistency of the left side? The right side was coming along nicely at the end of last season as well, it just seems an unnecessary change to me. If the right side is struggling at the start of the season, stick Doyle on the edge to chip off the snap or have the rb on block assignment.

I just think they are spreading the potential problem rather than solving it.

Feel free to point out why I'm wrong BTW guys... I'd liked to be convinced otherwise.

Honestly, I love it. Mewhort and Haeg can both play multiple positions, and I think the move is for the running game just as much as pass protection.  The guard positions are different, yes, but it isn't like a switch from tackle to a guard. It gives us stability on the right side now too. Clark looks stronger, more physical, and a lot quicker with his hands. I'm excited about this year.

except for the fact AL isn't participating in TC

I really hope Dorsett proves himself this season. He could be such a great weapon with precise route-running. Then we would have a speedy TY, big redzone targets in Moncrief, Doyle, and Swoope, and a deep threat in Dorsett. Offense would be so well rounded in the passing game.

What's the news on Aiken? I haven't heard one thing about it and I wasn't able to make it to the open practice. Is he listed at the No. 5 WR behind rogers and Dorsett?

I always take their predictions with a grain of salt.  They have the Pats going 16-0, and I doubt that happens.  The top team this year will be 13-3 and I do believe it will be those hated Pats.

Obviously Patriots fans. In a perfect world, i wish everyone would think the Colts are going t great every year like I do, but I've gotten used to the underdog phenomenon and I am starting to like it. Less pressure. And more talk when we go 3-0 to start the season.

could we really have Lance play the point?

I love Lance...but starting at the point?  30 minutes a game?

If Teague wants $20 mil a year, we may see it.

But Lance can be crazy with the ball. I dont know.

I actually am excited about Cory Joseph. I've loved him ever since he came into the league. His shooting needs to improve, but he brings energy. Him and Collison are both probably better suited as a sixth man, but they should be good rotating together. I still think we win 36-38 games....

They have offers..we just haven't taken one..

Friday night's rumor is that if Boston signs Hayward when Free agency begins in July, Paul George will join him and sign a multi year deal.

..we would get Crowder, Avery Bradley and Jayson Tatum.

But Hayward has not yet opted out of his contract

I think that is all B.S. Tbh. They wouldn't even trade their number 3 pick to us, let alone their pick, Bradley, and Crowder. But if we got that deal, I'd be ecstatic. We could have Lance play point and sign Millsap to almost max and be competitive.

That would have to be very heavily based on incentives.

Chiefs wouldn't cut him with their WR situation and the fact that he had just been present at their OTAs if there wasn't some significant issues. Chiefs have been pretty well run team under Reid and Dorsey too.

But this was pretty costly for them. Lost a 3rd for tampering and about 23M for 1600 yards.

True on the last part. But no I expect a pretty big contract by a team like St. Louis or Arizona. He has been getting first team reps all offseason and their whole team is shocked. I would be surprised if he got anything less than a 2/15 million deal

I would say on Defense Vontae and  Hooker are locked in. On offense I would say Luck, TY, Kelly, and Mewhort. Also Vinatieri isn't losing his spot.

I would say Luck, TY, Kelly, Mewhort, AV, Vontae, Gore, and Hankins are all locks to be starters day 1.

  12. Didn't expect that. He must not be as fast, or explosive as they believed he once was. Too much dead money to just suddenly release a player this late in the offseason.

Doubt the Colts go after him due to the fact that many teams will compete to get him, and he is not the big receiver Moncrief is capable of being.

Ravens, Saints, or any of the NFC West teams would be my guess.

thats very optimistic of you, so fans wont be mad that you feel this way.

its also the riskiest approach we could take though.  if we are not good next year and he doesnt make all nba there wont be much incentive for him to stay.

I would be surprised if we did worse than we did this year. I expect turner to take a huge leap forward. I expect him to average 18-20 PPG, 9 rebounds per game. I would not be disappointed if we brought back teague or George hill for that matter.

Gordan Hayward will be available and I believe we have a good chance at getting him if he leaves. The celtics, pacers, or Oklahoma City would be my guess. I expect us to win around 50 games if we don downgrade by losing teague with no replacement.

I must be more tired than I thought... it took me reading that 5 times to realize that he isn't getting paid below the rookie scale minimum, but rather "Under the contract of the rookie scale"

These guys are making millions of dollars to do what they love and what God blessed them with. Most will be retired by the time they are 30-35 if not earlier. And most will go on to live a fabulous and luxurious Iife. I think i could take a lot of criticism from a few fans especially from a message forum that i may never read or even know about.  As far as respect i try to respect every person i come across. Everyone in my mind deserves respect rather you are a pro football player for the Colts or someone i run into at the grocery store.

The upmost respect from me goes out to the military, police officers, fireman, first responders, etc. who keeps my family safe. So i can also enjoy watching and being entertained by this sport of football that i love so much! So i can jump on a player for a bad play and praise him the next for an awesome one. Because at the end of the day it's just a football game regardless of how much we get into it!

    Nice post.

But man, it's not just a football game. It's a burning passion. This "game" is what we true Colts fans look forward to every week.  Our passion that we post crazy posts on here every 10 minutes to kill a little extra time until football starts up again. A "game" that makes us upset when it's week 10 because we only have 6 or 7 more games left in the season. This "football game" is a passion. It's one of the most important things in my life. Yes, in a literal sense, it's just a football game. But in reality, no.... it's not.

  16. I think Banner is going to be a good Tackle/Guard in the NFL. Good/Harg and Clark may start this year but Banner is better than people give credit. I like him a lot with his size and Height. He would be nice to have him there lining up against some elite power rushers.

  17. I think it will probably be between Takkarist McKinley, Jonathan Allen, and Malik Hooker. You have to look at the defense the players are playing in that will allow them to have the stats to be DROY. McKinley will get a lot of chances due to attention being drawn to Vic Beasly and Deion Jones.

Allen is going to be a tear in the middle.

Hooker will have his chances due to our man to man scheme and allowing him to help out a lot over top. He will have his chances at getting a lot of interceptions.

This is confusing to me..I wouldn't mess with him

..I think his speed and size is needed....you need depth....especially in the secondary..

.....you never give up on a player after one rookie season....

I'm not giving up on him. I just don't see how he gets moved to corner honestly. His biggest weakness IMO is being able to read the quarterback(track where the ball is going), and stay on the defender at the same time. That's what a cornerback does.

Maybe he improves tremendously... I hope so. We invested an early third round pick in him.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he is traded for a late round pick either. Not that I believe we are giving up on him, rather he has no shot at being a starter on our team.

    That's an excellent question.

I'd also like to know why we're making a story out of a throwaway line in response to a press conference question.

Right. I guess I can see why it would be thought that he could move to CB because we have so much competition at safety, and less at cornerback, but he is already a project. Nobody is worth wasting their whole rookie contract trying to teach that player how to play in the NFL correctly.
