If that's the case then Ballard has been pretty active as well.  Reports came out that Indy contacted Justin Houston's agent not long after he was released.  Numerous reports indicated Indy had a lot of interest in Tyrell Williams.  Preston Smith reportedly came down to Indy and GB as his final 2 choices so Ballard was obviously pursuing Smith as well.

The Colts also were on the running for CJ Mosley and Landon Collins. I think our front office has probably thought of every scenario, and this is exactly what they thought would happen. The anticipation is killing me tho.

Colts are hoarding the cash for 2020 right lol. Maybe Indy isn’t a top destination lol idk. Maybe Ballard likes bargains

That’s what I believe as well. The 2020 class is pretty stacked. I expected a lot of 1 year deals in order to free up the space for next year as well.

Would rather have Golden Tate than Devin Funchess however.

N'Keal Harry - big guy with no hands

JJ Arcega-Whiteside - big guy who can't get separation

Jachai Polite - you don't tweet to the world every time you feel you've been dissed by coaches

Jaylon Ferguson - off field reasons

Ed Oliver - disrespecting his coach on the field

Jamel Dean - seriously injury prone

I agree on Jaylon Ferguson, however it is hard to dispute his production.

    I have a few guys I don't like.

Kelvin Harmon, Marquise Brown, Jaylen Ferguson, Jonah Williams, Nassir Adderly, Greedy Williams, Jachai Polite, Ed Oliver and Deionte Thompson.

Other than that, I'm open to anyone in that range.

Why aren’t you for Ed Oliver? I think he would be a stud in our scheme!

Ferrell would be a decent replacement for Sheard at LDE...but I am not as crazy about him as some. Definitely better than anyone they have right now.

Gary on the other hand...yeah let's just say we disagree. Can't teach that combo of size/length, strength and athleticism. He's on par with Mario Williams in that category. I think he will be a great NFL player. Unlike some...I even think he can play 4-3 DE...strongside.

What is that you don't like about him? If it's production...I get that. But his tape definitely shows a guy that can make NFL plays. And after drafting Turay and Lewis in the 2nd round, hard to say that production is much of a concern to Ballard.

Turay and Lewis both were projected to go in the 2nd/3rd round of the draft. Gary is projected to go as high as No. 8 overall. I don’t think production has shown he is worth the gamble, especially as he isn’t the best scheme fit for us coming out of college either.

He very well could be a really solid DE, but I don’t think he will ever compare to Mario Williams in his prime.

  5. Is there any players you guys would be upset if we did select in the 1st round?

    I personally do NOT want:

    Clelin Ferrell DE

    Rashan Gary DT

I don’t think either fit our system well, and would much rather them be gone before we pick.

I’m all for BPA, I just hope those guys aren’t as high on Ballard’s list. Here’s to hoping Ed Oliver or Montez Sweat falls to us at 26!

  6. People say we were quiet, but the first day of free agency we were already linked to working out a deal for Denice Autry.

Ballard said that was one of his biggest targets in free agency. This year, our team is 5 steps ahead of where we were last year, and i think he targets a few more of his big targets as the time is now.

Really?  Outside of Desir, which of our FA are going to make a roster and have a significant contract?

This being the case, a couple signings the level of Autry and Ebron would cancel even a large contract for Desir out.....  you really think we aren't signing much of anyone, or anything eh?

I wouldn’t think we would get anything either; but I was surprised we got a 4th after the season Moncrief has in Jacksonville so who knows

We signed Autry, Ebron(I don’t think this counted towards comp pick), and Marcus Hunt who all had good years.

    Jamison Crowder (25), Washington
Few players offer such acute body control on underneath routes. He can win 1-on-1 or as a puzzle piece in a larger multi-receiver design.

    Adam Humphries (25), Tampa Bay
Serviceable slot receiver who can redirect off short-area movement and win on crossing patterns.

I’d rather have Tate and draft a receiver in the late 2nd/3rd, but I would be happy with Humphries.

Jamison Crowder would be a cheap option, but I wouldn’t give him any more than $4-$5 a year. He’s a WR3 IMO

  9. I think it is sometimes misunderstood when reporters report that there is “trade interest” from teams for a certain player.

Throughout the offseason, I’m sure there are many talks/interests from all 32 teams for players we would never think would be negotiated for. Most are turned down, and we never hear about them. The ones we do hear about are turned down over half the time as well.

He very well could get traded with teams starting to seem like they are using the franchise tag as leverage to trade players without any intent of keeping them, but I doubt Ballard will part with any pick higher than a 3rd with this year’s draft crop.

You pretty much have who I have in your Top 10 except I would have Kobe instead of Hakeem in mine. Duncan makes my Top 10 so we agree on that. No disrespect to Hakeem but IMO Kobe was the more impactful player during his career, especially in the playoffs. Hakeem did win 2 Championships but Kobe won 2 without Shaq even. Kobe also has more career points. Regarding Bird, Bird's teams were loaded with HOFamers. McHale might be the most underrated PF of all-time. He made the top all-time 50 players list that the NBA put out. They also had Robert Parish and Dennis Johnson, and for 1 year Bill Walton. All of those players made the HOFame. The 2 players I struggled with leaving off my top 10 were Hakeem and Oscar Robertson. Had Karl Malone won just 1 Ring I would've considered him as well. Karl was really great.

I could see a list something like this:

    1. Michael Jordan

    2. Magic Johnson - He was the best player on all the Lakers Championship teams (nothing against Kareem but he was), even in 1980 as a rookie. He won MVP of the Finals even in 1980.

    3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    4. LeBron James here

    5. Wilt Chamberlain

    6. Larry Bird

    7. Shaq O'Neal

    8. Bill Russell

    9. Tim Duncan

    10. Kobe Bryant here to round out the top 10

There is no way Tim Duncan is ranked higher than Kobe. Kobe was an idol and could flip a game third to MJ and Lebron James. I wouldn’t rank Shaq higher than Kobe either honestly.

I wouldn't pay him more than $6 million a year to be honest. He's a no 3 receiver IMO who I hope Ballard doesn't fall for overpaying because of a SD connection. I'd honestly be disappointed if we paid $10 million +.

I agree. The Chargers haven’t really blown away the league with their WR group. If he is worth $11-$12 million a year, he should have 2 or 3 1000 yard years with 60+ receptions. He is worth 7-8 tops.

Money isn’t everything if your on a bad team and your miserable. I would rather be a happy millionaire then a unhappy millionaire. There is nothing anyone can’t afford when they are already making millions In one year of that contract they are already set for life.

So, if you were the CEO of a fortune 100 company, you would stay at your current job making $1.5 million a year vs accepting a job offer from another company offering $3 million a year??

I think if you relate it to the business world we live in vs professional athletes it’s easier to understand why most athletes chase the money. Who knows...maybe I value money too much haha

If I thought Houston could be had for that cheap at 3 years and only $25M then I'd jump at the chance to see how he could convert to the 4-3.

The sad reality is that pass rushers do not hit the market. They just don't. Hence why guys like Clowney, Lawrence, Clark, Ford and even Jarrett have already been tagged.

The big killer was Brandon Graham's deal. If Graham can get 3 years and $40M at age 31 (to start the year) and his stats are worse than Houston's and Houston is a year younger, if Houston hits the open market he is going to beat that deal.

That means he will easily recoup that $15M he was going to make and then some.

If he signs a 3 year deal it will be for more like $45-$50M than $25M.

Which is why the Colts will pass. And is also why a guy like Flowers is going to take a lot of money to real in. Which is why I do not expect us to get him either.

It is going to be a rough day as a Colts fan for folks who either want a pass rusher or do not want to overpay. Because we are either not going to sign one of the few available guys or we are going to pay way more than we should to do so.

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth.

I doubt Houston gets 3 yr/50 million unless it’s from the Jets. I think a 3 yr/35-40 million is more likely.

If you think or like Murray more than Rosen I have no problem at all with your opinion.

With that said there is no reason to try to make Rosen out to be some kind of a bust.

IMO Rosen will be a good QB in the NFL no matter what happens with the Cardinals.

If Az. trades him he will be better off someplace else anyway.

Rosen’s Ceiling: Poor Man’s Philip Rivers

    Floor: Blake Bortles

The cardinals are dumb to take Murray and trade Rosen. Why would you not build around Rosen. You just drafted him. Imagine the great DE they could get.

That’s my thought exactly. I have a feeling the Patriots are going to be the lucky team that trades a 3rd round pick for Rosen and once again, gets a steal. He’ll sit behind Brady two more years to learn from the best. McDaniels will then have his guy when Brady/Bill retire.

i agree somewhat, but hes already signed for two more years.  by that time he will be near the age that WRs usually start falling off but are not necessarily done

i dont think he will be looking to jump ship somewhere for a little more money either, hes a family guy and chose to stay close to home in college rather than going to the biggest school that was interested

He’s only signed for one more year. He is a free agent next offseason.

I think we see what he does this season and pay accordingly. When the wheels come off TY, its gonna look ugly. When that time will be is the question. He will be 32 near the start of his next contract, I am not sure 4 years at that price is wise. I am almost in the camp of play out the contract and then move on while the iron is still hot. Maybe a 3 year extension you can get away from with little to no cap hit after 2. IDK

I don’t see us moving on from Hilton until he starts playing like Reggie did his last year. He means too much to this franchise, I just hope TY doesn’t chase the money if we don’t offer him the number he wants

What I've been saying all year

I think Ballard realizes that too, and that is why I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed him to a front loaded 4 year deal, so his cap hit will be smaller when it’s time to resign our 2018 draft picks.

Honestly, if we offer him a contract that matches close to what any other team offers, he will be a Colt.
