Agreed for sure.
Clark is almost certain to get tagged as others have said.
I would argue he is even more likely to be tagged than Lawrence and rightfully so.
The guy has amassed 32 sacks over the last 3 seasons and is in his prime at only 25 years old.
He is the very definition of a guy you don't let go lol.
He would be worth the $15M-$17M a year it would take to sign him.
With pass rushers like Oliver Vernon and Justin Houston making $17M a year (yes I know they are OLBs but they are pass rushers nonetheless), I would expect the best pass rushers thiss off-season to command $18M+ a year in deals as they fall under the Mack/Donald level but hover near the Franchise tag/Von Miller level which should but them between $17.5 and $19M
I could see a scenario where Flowers hits the market. But I am not sure he is so dynamic that he deserves that $15M+ the way Clark would.
In the end, despite all our cap room, I think it is unlikely we break the bank for a pass rusher since we won't overpay for middle of the pack guys and since this draft class is deep.
Much more likely we get more home grown talent and that we sign some gems like Autry.
Some guys I could see netting nice deals but not breaking the bank include:
Romeo Okwara
Dante Fowler
Aaron Lynch
Za'Darius Smith
Preston Smith
Some of these guys are 3-4 OLBs that have the size to play 4-3 end and could contribute on the line.
There are guys like the before mentioned Trey Flowers and even Brandon Graham who would fit nicely too, but I am not sure they will be worth the contracts they fetch.
Dee Ford also picked a great year to have a contract year too.
In the end I see it more likely that we try to unearth middle tier guys than us going for any big fish. That is even more likely since i doubt any of the big fish pass rushers hit the open market. If they do, there will be many teams with money looking to overpay them. And while we have some of the most money, we are also one of the teams least likely to go out and overpay a guy.
100% agree with all that you said. However, say we sign 4 middle of the pack free agents(all average $8 million per year), we still will have about $60-$65 million in cap space after the draft and resigning our own guys.
What do we do with the rest of the money??

Agreed. We need to target a UT or DE in the draft IMO because there isn’t any studs available in FA other than the top 10 defensive players that will all be tagged or likely way overpaid.

Dee Ford to me is a bit undersized to play DE in this defense. But I wouldn't mind Clark or Flowers as long as they don't break the bank.
Lawrence probably won't be available.
Collins would look nice next to Malik Hooker also, unless Geathers can prove to stay healthy and play well.
Flowers and Clark are both going to make $14+ million per year.

good read
I would add another DT instead of Covington especially since Woods and Hunt are walking.
I also wouldn't spend that much on a SLB. That position isn't valued in our system and rarely plays. Most of the time were just running the two linebackers with an extra DB.
Other than those two things I really like it a lot.
True. Do you think if Geathers and Farley both resign, we play Geathers at the SLB some next year?
-
If players such as:
Landon Collins
Dee Ford
D. Lawrence
Frank Clark
J. Clowney
Grady Jarrett
Trey Flowers
all get franchises tagged, where is all our cap space going to go??
The other top free agents available are all at the free safety position or are players that are not the greatest scheme fits.
We aren’t going to spend much on offense other than resigning Mark G., and signing a WR in FA. $60-$80 million just towards our defense??
Anybody know how much cap space we need to spend by the end of the offseason?

Change of thought on this one...
FA: Collins S
FA: Fitzgerald WR
RD1: White ILB 6'1" 255
RD2: Edwards OT 6'7" 315
RD2: Oruwariye CB 6'0" 209
RD3: Ridley WR 6'2" 200 (Trade Brissett for 3rd rounder)
RD3: Christmas DT 6'4" 308
RD4: Kaufusi DT 6'9" 285
RD5: Marshall CB 6'0" 200

It’s looking like Collins wants to be back with the Giants.

I would agree on the last statement. Even though Inman has been playing well for us the last couple of weeks, he is a No. 3 receiver. I think we’ll give Humphries, Tate, and Williams all a pretty good look in FA, and draft a WR within the first 2 rounds.
-
Does this game impact Desir’s value this offseason?! I could see a team like the Jets/Bucs giving him $9 million per year after watching him play the way he has the last 5 weeks.
Would you be okay with paying him $8-$9 million? R. Melvin got paid, and he was not nearly the same player as Desir has been for us the second half of the year.
-
Ball was out there. What are the odds the refs give them the home field advantage cal here?
-
The ONLY bad thing about this game is it really makes it more probable that Matt E. gets a HC gig

Thanks for the research
These are great to read, as we are excited for the big game tomorrow
A few comments
1) I like the Colts FAs retained
2) I would think that Hunt has done enough and is valuable to this defense to get a reasonable contract. I dont think anyone is going to break the back for him
3) You are more aggressive in FA than I think we need to be.
I would spend to get Trey Flowers and Collins from NY
These two alone, would put us up a SIGNIFICANT notch
I would also consider Blount as a change up RB
In regards to your draft, I love the versatility of Raekwon Davis
He had a very off year for sacks but still put mucho pressure on the QB. (He did have 8 1/2 sacks last year. He is big enough to also play NT, He is fast enough to stay on the field for passing downs
I like Rapp, but if I could get Collins, I am going another way.
I LOVE..... repeat.... LOVE Hakeem Butler as our new WR.... the guy is a monster
One thing you dont address in this draft is RB.
If you believe the mocks some very good RBs will be available in rounds 2-4
ANY of these 3 would help this offense
ANY of these three, have enough speed, and have enough power to break tackles.............. We dont have that component on the team today
I also think that you should consider one of the small school DEs to develop in rounds 4-6
Thanks for the input! I would prefer Collins as well, but I tried to be as realistic as possible. Collins stated he isn’t really interested in signing with another team. Trey Flowers is one of the few top FA’s I believe will actually be available this offseason given the Patriots history.
I don’t really see the need to draft another 3rd or 4th round RB. We already have 3 young back on the roster. I think we go UDFA or sign Bell(very unlikely).

Here's my second ever mock draft I have made to help keep me busy until Saturday's game:
Colts Estimated 2019 Salary Cap Space: $123 million
Colts Free Agents:
Adam Vinatieri: 1 year/$3.1 million
Pierre Desir: 3 year/$17.8 million
Evan Boehm: 1 year/$950 K
Mark Glowinski: 3 year/$15.5 million
Clayton Geathers: 1 year/$5.5 million (prove it deal)
Total Cap Space Remaining: $98 million(slightly front loaded contracts)
Let walk:
Margus Hunt - I think he has outplayed himself compared to his worth to Balllard.
Matthias Farley - He wants a chance to be a legit starter, and he is replaceable.
Ryan Grant - Obvious.
Matt Slauson, Al Woods - Replaceable with younger guys.
Incoming FA's:
OLB KJ Wright: 3 year/$21 million (Could play him at SLB and have a top 5 linebacking core)
WR Adam Humphries: 4 year/$32 million
DE Christian Covington: 2 year/$10 million
CB: Bryce Callahan: 3 year/$25 million
DE: Trey Flowers: 5 year/#80 million(Front loaded contract- $20 million first year)
Total Remaining Cap Space: $57 million
Extend:
Rigoberto Sanchez: 3 year/$9 million
2019 NFL Draft:
1st Round, Pick 26: DE/DT Raekwon Davis
2nd Round, Pick 34: S Taylor Rapp
2nd Round, Pick 58: WR Hakeem Butler (Huge 6'6 WR with great ball skills)
3rd Round, Pick 90: OLB/ILB Anfernee Jennings
4th Round, Pick 130: OT Mitch Hyatt
5th Round, Pick 165: ILB Tre Lamar
6th Round, Pick 192: S Andrew Wingward
7th Round, Pick 225: K Austin Seibert
After draft signings and Sanchez's extension, approx. cap space remaining: $45 million

Nonsense, he’s caught many screen passes or slants and taken them down the field this year. You sir are misremembering.
I think he is trying to say that we don’t really have any “make you miss” receivers on this team, including TY. You can’t argue that Hilton always runs out of bounds a few yards before he would ever face contact. It’s smart, but we do need a solid receiver or two that are elusive and willing to sacrifice their body. Hence, our YAC will increase.

TY will have to be wide open and very deep. He can't out run many defenders on that bum ankle.
Honestly, if it’s not broken/fractured, eventually it will have to get better. Granted he is playing on it every week; but there’s a possibility it improves a little, rather than continues to get worse. I’m just hoping none of their DB’s go after his ankle to stop him from dominating them every game.

Good news is:
Texans Schedule:
Away: Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Bucs, Saints, Chargers, Chiefs, Ravens
Home: Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Broncos, Raiders, Falcons, Panthers, Patriots
The Texans have to play the Ravens and Patriots vs the Steelers/Dolphins as in our case.
I think it’s safe to say we all feel more confident playing our schedule lol

I'm more interested in this offseason than last. How Ballard extends contracts, free agency involvement, moves leading up to the draft, and of course the draft. This is a hugee offseason coming up for this RED HOT PLAYOFF TEAM. This team, regardless what happens in the playoffs, will be the talk of the offseason. Good picks in the draft. A lot of money to work with, and a general manager that is to be respected.
Agreed. Dreading the wait from Super Bowl Sunday to the start of free agency. Never have been so excited for the offseason.

Colts have dominated the game, and letting Tennessee stay in it. Le’veon doesn’t let that happen.

I posted on this earlier this week saying basically the same thing. However, with the way Philip Rivers is playing today they don’t look as scary as I originally thought. Can’t wait to see how we play tonight

Yeah, playoff Brady is somebody I don’t prefer to play. This year is our best chance to break that streak he has against Luck tho.
-
Nice video. Thanks for sharing!

I wonder if they think he matches up better against these two quarterbacks/WR’s than prior QB’s? Obviously our secondary has taken a beating the last few weeks given the injuries, so it could be just for depth. I will say that Collins is arguably as talented as any of our CB’s on this roster, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets more snaps than people expect.

titans are horrible at getting sacks they have to blitz to get even a little bit of pressure . with casey out and orakpo out and woodyard is really banged up luck will have a clean pocket all night and carve them up bad this is gonna be a mauling
I agree. I think the way we won the against NY really will help self-motivate each player on our team. I can’t wait for Sunday Night!
-
That’s HUGE to them because their defense is what they have going for them. Without their two best pass rushers and 2 of their top 3 corners, it would a big upset if they won this game.

I think this game is simpler than people are making it out to be. Yes, we have to stop Hill and Kelce, but it’s going to come down to two things for both teams:
Red Zone Efficiency(TD’s over FG’s)
Turnover Margin
If we win the turnover margin and force them into a couple of FG’s we win this game. If Luck throws a boneheaded pick or two, we’re in big trouble.
