Every fan likes to play GM and has their own idea on how to build the perfect team. I don't want to make the same mistake with Luck that we did with Peyton. Give him an offensive line where all five starters grade out at least average, preferably above average or higher. I'm hopeful that Haeg and Good or Clark will be those guys by the end of the year. If not, if I was GM, I'd spend another 1st rounder on an All American guard. Centers and guards that have 1st round grades are usually pretty stout their rookie year. If Haeg and Good and or Clark keep improving then, for God's sake, Spend your 1st 4 rounds picks on ILB, OLB, OLB, DL 5 tech, NT, and CB. LOL - take your pick.
Our best 2 defensive players from last year's draft came in the 3rd and 4th round.

Grigson did make a good pick with Kelly. Whitehair is the 12th ranked center with the Bears. But, its hard for me to consider that a miss. There are 3 good guards worthy of a 1st or 2nd round pick next year if we need to upgrade. Feeney and the 2 guards from Ohio State. Kind of a weak tackle class in my opinion. At least, compared to last year.

Castonzo is ranked 14th best tackle in league
Mewhort is ranked 10th best guard in league
Kelly is ranked 23rd best center in league
Our next best tackle is Haeg at 48th
Interesting side note. Taylor Lewan of TN is ranked 1st. And Conklin is ranked 4th. I'm jealous.

Offense:
QB
Luck 87.4 High Quality
WR
Ty Hilton 81.1 Above Average
Donte Moncrief 74.6 Average
Phillip Dorsett 56.1 Poor
Chester Rogers 46.7 Poor
TE
Jack Doyle 71.6 Average
Eric Swoope 57.9 Poor
Dwayne Allen 52.1 Poor Run blocking is worst by far of TE's. Next cut? I vote yes
RB
Robert Turbin 64.8 Below Average His pass blocking is much better than Gore and Ferguson
Frank Gore 62.6 Below Average His pass blocking is graded worst among RBs by sizeable margin
Josh Ferguson 55.1 Poor Best receiver - Worst runner
OT
Anthony Castonzo 81.5 Above Average Pass and run blocking are graded about the same
Joe Haeg 67.0 Below Average Best run blocking OT, not so much on pass
LeRaven Clark 60.2 Below Average Pass and run blocking are graded about the same
Joe Reitz 43.5 * Poor Worst at pass and run. Please cut him Grigson. He sucks.
OG
Jack Mewhort 82.6 Above Average Pretty good at both pass and run blocking
Jonotthan Harrison 48.3 Poor Horrible pass blocker
Denzelle Good 47.9 Poor Much better run blocker than pass
Austin Blythe 36.6 Puke Enough said
C
Ryan Kelly 71.6 Average Pass block = 75.5 Run Block = 53.3
So, looks like we are pretty well set at QB, (2)WR, LT, LG, C
Need to cut veterans that are suppose to be setting the tone for rookies, but are failing miserably (Allen and Reitz)
At least start Doyle over Allen
Offensive line should probably be Castonzo Mewhort Kelly Good Haeg
See if Good and Haeg get better. If not, switch positions. If that doesn't work. Its back to draft and FA.

We need an elite left tackle and and an elite guard. I think Kelly can be elite and I think Mewhort can be above average. Castonzo's best days at left tackle are two years behind him, but maybe he would be an above average right tackle.
How about a line like this from left to right
Tyron Smith Yanda Kelly Mewhort Castonzo
Only guys I would want to keep on defense as starters the way everyone is performing right now is:
Anderson, Adams, and Davis.
Jones is always hurt or something else.
Need 2 ILB's that can cover and stop the run.
Need 2 OLB's that can get to the QB and set the edges.
Need another good corner to pair with Davis. Maybe make Davis the 2nd CB.
I'm ok with the safety situation of Adams, Geathers, and Green
Another beast like Anderson
And a big, nasty NT. I like Parry when he's out there with Anderson, but I would prefer him in a back up role or as a DT in our 4 -3 package.
Anyway, that's a superbowl caliber team right there assuming Pagano improves or we get a new HC altogether.
-
Parry as well and probably Kelly and Moncrief and Gore
-
Too bad he's constantly hearing Irsay whisper in his ear "don't run the ball". Bortles sure wasn't worried about it. I know he needs to protect his body, but being a dual threat is what made Luck special. He just needs to slide more.
-
Sit Castonzo's and Reitz's buts on the bench. They have played long enough that we know they suck and always will. Reitz has always had an injury problem for as far back as I can remember. Castonzo doesn't seem to give a crap anymore. Castonzo gave up just as many pressures as Haeg I thought. Try Good at LT and keep the rest of the line like it was today. See if we have anything special in the young guys because our veterans stink.

Is it going to be on ESPN or the NFL Network or neither?
-
Ryan Kelly for sure. Too early to judge the others, but I have high hopes for Haeg.

Here's the head to head grades against Jags. You may have to hold down the ctrl button as you click the link.

Yep. I see how you got the address, but how do you make it active? When I tried to copy and paste the address, it was just normal text.

As of today, I'm seeing Anderson is graded out at 81.6 (above average) And Haeg is graded out at 49.0 (Poor). Broken down as 65.6 on run plays and 41.1 on pass plays. They have this grade at guard, not tackle. His score is better than any lineman not named Castonzo, Mewhort, or Kelly.
On defense, both Adams and Geathers have scores in the low 80's which is above average. Safeties looking good. I will try and figure out how to post the link that shows this.
-
Perhaps Butler in the slot when he is healthy. Haven't seen enough of Robinson yet. He definitely didn't look good on the outside, but then again, neither does Butler usually.
-
Oddly enough, I believe Vontae Davis had the lowest defensive score in the 30's. Is that what you see Gavin?
-
It appears Melvin and Davis should be our number 1 and 2 cornerbacks.

Thursday updated offense grades.
Castonzo 74.2
Mewhort 77.1
Kelly 74.0
Good 47.9
Reitz 48.3
Allen 54.0
Rogers 51.7
Dorsett 70.5
Hilton 74.4
Gore 53.5
Luck 87.9
I say give Good and Reitz another shot against the Chargers. If they do better, leave them there for another game. If they continue to do poorly, flip flop them for the London game. If they still do poorly against the Jags, its Haeg time.
-
I will wait until Thursday from now on before I post PFF grades so they have time to adjust them. They have updated the grades since Monday and here they are for offensive side of ball.
Castonzo 74.2
Mewhort 77.1
Kelly 74.0
Good 47.9
Reitz 48.3
Rogers 51.7
Dorsett 70.5
Hilton 74.4
Gore 53.5
Luck 87.9

I'll post the updated scores for o line and notable defensive scores after next week's game. Please note, I am pulling these numbers straight off the players grade section of PFF. Sometimes the article about game has contradictory numbers. Take it with a grain of salt.

Here are the actual grades.
Kelly is 74.0 through two games, not 54.8.
AC is 74.2
Mewhort 77.1
Good 47.9 (he was either injured or benched for Harrison late vs Denver, haven't heard of anyone really mentioning this.)
Reitz 48.3
Grades subject to change once all 22 is released.
Maybe they will correct it after the 3rd game for Kelly. Anyway, left side of line is the best we've had in a long time. Right side, same ol' same ol'. D line should improve quite a bit once Anderson comes back. I remember him and Parry being pretty stout against the run last year when they were both in there. Hopefully, Jones can stay healthy once he comes back. Gonna be a long year for the linebackers I'm afraid.
-
I know. The articles say one thing, but if you go under player grades or head to head match ups, it shows the other numbers. Weird.

As far as defense and this is UGLY.
Our best CB through 2 games is Rashaan Melvin ranked 40th
Our best safety through 2 games is Mike Adams ranked 16th (best ranking for us)
Our best ILB through 2 games is Sio Moore ranked 59th (ugh)
Our best OLB through 2 games is Trent Cole at 40th
The rankings for out whole dline (may I suggest a stiff drink after reading this)
McGill 75th
Kerr 101st
Ridgeway 102nd
Parry 107th
Langford 113th
The lowest they go on dline is 115th. WOW. What doesn't add up is how the games have been relatively competitive. Adams and Luck are the only ones performing at a high level. Everyone else is average to very poor (worst in the league poor).

Curious thing with the Titans. Even thought they have the best offensive tackle tandem in the NFL. Mariotta is ranked dead last among QB's.
