  1. We will probably lose to the Seahawks, but I would love to see the Colts win with Brissett.  He had the number 3 qtr rating last week against a decent Browns defense. Almost beat the Cardinals with a very limited knowledge of the playbook.   The kid is shaping up to be a great backup.  Lol, can't wait to see the threads on here if Brissett wins the next 2 games and the Colts have to choose between an upward trending back up and a very rusty starter.  I'm neutral on his so keep your pitchforks and torches in the barn.  I'm one of the few on here that would let Brissett start against Titans if he wins the next 2 just to give Luck a few more weeks to get acclimated to real game speed.  Best case scenario would be to get a big lead and bring in a Luck for the last quarter.  Kind of like preseason, but play him in 4th instead of 1st.

  2.       This may have been discussed already.  If so, go ahead and delete this topic.  I thought we might be in for a lot of trouble against Seattle's vaunted D, but, after looking at the stats, I feel a little better.  All of the following rankings are in terms of yards given up per game.  Total D - Indy 30th. Seattle 25th.

Rush D - Indy 12th. Seattle 30th.     Pass D - Indy 30th. Seattle 11th.   Takeaway giveaway differential.  Indy 0. Seattle +1.  So,  it looks like Seattle only has a  slight defensive advantage.  Home field definitely help them out, unfortunately.

Well my take is going to be a bit different than most because Haeg played below average.  His got no push nor position in run blocking and his pass blocking was sub par.  If the defender lined up on him he was okay but if he went outside Haeg really struggled to get out there.

People talk about AC, AC played several times better than Haeg and, in the 2nd half, he did it on an island because they slid the help over to Haeg's side, even if the play was going to the left.

I could see a real possibility of Bond moving to guard.  His quickness of the snap and technical ability he will win most battles.  If he gets bull rushed he'll struggle but Kelly can help him with that..  I think Vuj has done an adequate job, better than I was expecting, but there is definitely room for an upgrade.

Bond reminds me of Aaron Donald in that he would be a little undersized for a guard, but could best the guy in front of him due to superior technique in terms of quickness, strength, angle usage, and leverage.  Hoping he continues to develop.

IMO McGlinchey is not the best O-lineman on his own team(check out Quenton Nelson, he's probably the best G in the class) , let alone the best OT in the country. I have at least 2 others ahead of him and I haven't even started watching O-line film of the less prominent prospects, where you might find some gems.

Meniscus tears are not a huge problem nowadays and players return from them seamlessly for the most part. I personally still have Williams as OT1 in this class.

I like Nelson that's why I mentioned him in the post along with Hernandez and Crowder and pulling a double elite guard draft move like the Chargers did last year.  I'm probably one of the few that would love to spend some early round picks on more interior gems to put on each side of Kelly.  Obviously, we need a couple elite edge rushers and a LT.  I keep hearing Ballard believes in being strong in the trenches and the Colts are definitely not strong up front on the offensive line of the ball.  It will be interesting to see how Ballard approaches filling the offensive line needs (draft, FA, or combo).  Guess it depends on whose available in FA.  For some reason, I was thinking Trai Turner and Gabe Jackson were UFA next year.

  5. I live in Nashville and everyone down here thinks Kline is the Titans weak link.  I tried to temper everyone's expectations of Schwenke as well since he was benched in TN.  I think we should just let Ballard build through the draft.  Mewhort is hurt too much.  Castonzo is the best LT we have now, but he is getting worse every year.   The only guys I am high on right now are Kelly, Haeg, Good, and Bond.  All young ascending talents.  I'd be high on Mewhort as well if he stayed healthy like Castonzo.  I'd rather see the money go toward more elite defensive players who are rarely on injury reports.  Jmho of course.  We need to rid ourselves of all the injury prone players and replace them with iron men in hopes they can start changing the perceived soft culture of the Colts.

The Giants have a worse line than us and Pugh is one of their key guys, why would he hit the market?

I can see Trumaine hitting FA and like I said last year, if available I want him.  He fits the mold that Ballard likes.  Big and aggressive but he will be expensive.

Mewhort will need an extension sometime soon, which is very doubtful, before he hits the FA market and see's the dollar signs.  Teams will definitely be trying to take him away by throwing money at him.  Not sure what price Ballard has in mind though.  I would look at something similar to Josh Sitton who signed with the Bears.  Pretty good Guard and Mewhort needs a short term to evaluate the knee and injuries.

    My wish list would be:

    1. Trumaine Johnson - CB  Would be the perfect replacement for VD  (4yr/~50mil)

    2. Jeremy Hill - RB  Great 1, 2 punch with Mack  (3yr/~10mil)

    3. Josh Kline - OG  Has played well in TN and would be a good fit, not sure Titans will let him go but they have to sign Spain as well  (3yr/~20mil)

    4. Extend Mewhort if he does team friendly deal...probably wouldn't but who knows  (3yr/~21mil similar to Josh Sitton last year and see if he stays healthy)

Then draft a LT and go heavy on D again.

  7. Looks like McGlinchey is the only truly elite LT prospect left in next years draft.  Not sure I want Williams now after suffering the knee injury.  There are a couple maulers in next years draft.  Crowder, Brown, and that giant from Washington State.  Also Quenton Nelson out of ND if we don't have top 10 pick.  Lol, would love to do what the Chargers I'd last year when they got Feeney and Lamp.  But, we get  Nelson and either Crowder or Hernandez.  Put them on each side of Kelly and that would be one nasty trio of interior linemen.  Of course that wouldn't solve the problem of having a bunch of average LT players currently on the team.  I have personally given up on Clark, but I do think Good and Haeg's stock is headed in a bullish direction.

To be fair though, Vontae's affection for the big hit is a big reason why he misses so many games.  He's almost too physical for his size and position.

Surprised the Vontae fan club isn't beating you up for saying Vontae misses so many games.  I was crucified last week for saying that he was injury prone.  But, I agree with everything you just said

  9.      Yes, the Colts are very good, almost the best in terms of YPC. They are 7th in the league in total rushing yards per game.  They would be higher, obviously, if it weren't for the fact that the last 2 teams we played had a higher than average amount of rushing plays against us when compared to the rest of the league.

On the other hand, our pass defense ranks 29th in terms of total yards per game which has dragged our total defense down to 27th.  That is bad and I expect teams to abuse us in the passing game until our d coordinator and players figure out how to stop the big plays.  But, I love the fact that the play of Wilson, Hooker, Hairston, and Farley will continue to trend up as season goes on.  High ceilings for Hooker and Wilson.  Hairston could be a solid nickel.  Farley is a poor man's Bob Sanders.  And, we should see a nice leap in our ability to limit the oppositions passing game when Davis and, hopefully, Geathers come back.

I'm not worried about our dline or secondary or Simon.  The main thing on my wishlist is to get a couple ILBs that are above average in stopping the run and good in their coverage abilities on TEs and RBs coming out of the backfield.  We may be able to find some quality lbs in rounds 3 and 4.  I'm probably one of the few on here that thinks we need to double down on a tackle and guard in rounds 1 and 2.  Ryan Kelly caliber type athletes.

Once our secondary gets a little more seasoning, I think they may turn into one of the better young secondaries in the League.

  10. If we do pick in the middle of the rounds, I wouldn't mind the Colts taking the highest rated guard by Dratttek - Quenton Nelson.  Says he is one of the best guard prospects to come out of college in quite some time.  If we pick top 10 and either McGlinchey or Williams is on the board, I would take one of them and try and get Crowder or Price in the 2nd.  The edge class looks deep next year.  A bunch of them in the 6'3" 260 lb + club.  Maybe try and get some ILB and edge rushers in rounds 3 through 7.  I think the defense is looking a lot better than the offense right now.  But, that may change once Luck comes back.

  11. Ballard absolutely needs to fix the o line.  I could see him taking a tackle in the 1st and trading up to get Nelson out of ND at the bottom of the 1st.  I really liked the Kelly pick in the middle of the 1st because of his very low bust risk.  Pisses me off we didn't get Whitehair too.  He needs to pull the trigger twice next year and fix this o line problem that has been going on forever it seems.  Just baffles me how Polian or Grigson didn't make protecting their lengendary qbs by not putting an elite line in front of them their number 1 priority.  Fix THAT and then worry about everything else.  We know what happens to our team without Luck or Peyton in the lineup.

  12. I agree and since he is our best option we should probably shelve Luck for the year and tank for a very high pick we can trade for a bevy of extra picks.  Just kidding, but I'd be lying if I said the thought hasn't crossed my mind.  I just don't see Luck, with his rough and tough style of play, surviving behind this poor line.

  13. I'm holding out hope that Ballard can turn around the O line in 1 year like he did the dline this year.  We all knew he wouldn't be able to fix all the Colts bad parts in 1 year.  He fixed the run D bigly in 1 year.  Too early to tell what will be our weakest link is this year without Luck playing.  The pass d is looking rough, but that's with us missing Geathers and Davis.  Also have two young rookies taking their lumps, but I feel they have too many physical tools not to get much better with experience.

The oline I don't think can even be considered a work in progress.  The only guys that give me confidence in the future are Kelly and to a lesser extent, Mewhort and Good at RT.  Haeg, Clark, and Vukovich (sp?) are good for depth, but I'd like to see a 2 or 3 other guys with elite to semi elite skills.  Too bad it's such a weak Oline class coming out next year.  2 semi elite tackles and 1 semi elite guard.  Maybe some collegiate olinemen will improve their draft status throughout the season.

Oh yeah, we probably need a new head coach whose middle name isn't Airhead.

  14. Wish we wouldn't have lost Good to IR or cut Banner.  Those 2 could have developed into something better than the junk tackles we have now.  Maybe, maybe not, but Castonzo will get Luck killed for sure.

  15. Lol Blue, I can handle taking a beating every once in awhile.  That's what makes these forums so entertaining.  I'm glad you agree with me about the importance of practice.

I'm pretty sure Davis and Luck have had to play through injuries the majority of their tenure with the Colts with the exception of their early years.  But, I'll wave the white flag and chuck it up to bad luck.  Suffering all those injuries definitely isn't the same thing as being injury prone.  I stand corrected.
