  1. I think we have around 42 million in cap space heading into 2017.

I would love to get just 3 to 5 of these UFA players in FA and fill the holes in the draft.

                                                        Season to Date PFF Score

    Guards - Kevin Zeitler                  86.3

                   TJ Lang                         85.6

                   Ronald Leary                81.9

Would only want a guard if we couldn't get enough players and to give us another year

to evaluate Haeg and Clark at RT.

    Edge       Melvin Ingram               87.7

                   Chandler Jones            86.5

                   Jamie Collins                79.7

    3-4 DE     Calais Campbell          90.2

    ILB           Zach Brown                 83.3

    CB           AJ Bouye                     89.6

                    Morris Claiborne          84.9

                    Trumaine Johnson      80.0

    DT           Kawann Short              87.5

                    Nick Fairley                 78.1

                    Brandon Williams         75.8

                    Dontari Poe                 73

  2. Jones is slightly better than Ingram at rushing the passer.

Ingram is slightly better than Jones in coverage

Ingram is flat out better than Jones at stopping the run.

I'd take Ingram over Jones.  Either one would be a significant upgrade over what we have now.  But, what I really want is both wearing the horse shoe.

  3. On offense - Haeg scores higher than any other lineman on the Colts today on PFF (80.7) by a pretty wide margin.   Only offensive player scoring better by the Colts was TY Hilton at (80.8).

On defense - Morrison and Jackson led all defensive players with scores of 84.8 and 81.6 respectively.  Followed by Anderson (80.4), Darius Butler (72.3), and Akeem Ayers (67.9).

So, looks like we may be set at LT, LG, C, and RG heading into next year.  Still need to find a solid RT.  Castonzo, Mewhort, and Kelly have season to date PFF scores of over 80 which puts them in the good category.  Haeg would probably be over 80 if he would have played the whole season.

On defense, we have 3 players with season to date scores on PFF over 80 with Adams (84.6), Darius Butler (82.5), and Clayton Geathers (81.3).  Color me stupid, but I don't get some people's logic of parting ways with our out best 2 defenders this off season.  BTW, Vontae Davis has the lowest season to date score of all our CB's (45.1).  TJ Green has lowest score of all our secondary (41.8).  Pretty sure that was a Pagano pick.  Maybe instead of trying to get a true #2 CB, we should try and get a true #1 CB and move Davis to #2, and keep Butler in the slot.

Jackson and Morrison are trending up.  They just need to get better in coverage.

Akeem Ayers is the only edge defender with a season to date score of over 70 (73.3) which makes him average.

Gill and Anderson both have season to date score of 75.7 as well which makes them in the average category..

So, from how I felt at the beginning of the season to how I feel now about positional groups.

    QB - same

    WR - same

    RB - same

OL - better (thanks to Haeg and Kelly)

    TE - same

DL - worse (blamed on Jones, Langford, Parry, and Kerr)

ILB - a little better (thanks to Morrison and Jackson)

Edge - much worse (we have nothing but a backup player in Ayers.  Everyone else is poor to very poor)

S  -   better (Best 2 defensive players we have, although I'm extremely disappointed with Green - he's lost)

CB - same (we have a quality starter in Butler as long as he plays slot).  Criticize me all you want, its just my opinion, but I think we should try and find another CB to battle Davis for the #1 spot.  Morris and Melvin have impressed me even though they struggled today and are good quality depth.

  4. I know Adams is old, but I don't know if I would cut our best player on defense before we find another safety that's at least as good as him.  All we have right now is Geathers and Butler who are both injury prone.  If we cut Butler, we only have Geathers.   Green, like Dorsett, is another high round reach that Grigson/Pagano made based off combine measurables instead of game film.  I hope he improves greatly over the offseason. I agree with all the rest.

  5. If our offense stays healthy and keeps steadily improving like it has been, I could see Grigs going 80/20 defense/offense in the draft and FA.  However, if pressure keeps coming from the right side forcing Luck into dangerous scenarios the rest of the season with no improvement, I would totally understand if Irsay tells Grigs and Co.  to spend rounds 1 and/or 2 on top notch collegiate linemen to make the line solid from LT to RT.  Also, we need another running back besides Gore.  If Gore goes down, we no longer have the threat of a running game.  Its a solid RB class next year and their are a handful of guards that have 2nd round grades or better.  Luck is the team and we probably need one more year of 3 draft picks addressing RG, RT (if no improvement is seen from Good, Haeg, Clark.  Ive given up on Reitz and his health/performance issues.  Although, I do like the depth we have now on the Oline even with the pressures.  The rookies are at least semi-capable of holding their own at the NFL level.  I'm one of the few on here probably that would be ok spending a 1st rounder on one of the top 4 RB's, if all linebackers we are high on are gone.

We always had a running game when he had a 1st rd RB setting up behind QB.  Dickerson, Faulk, James, Addai, Brown(meh, not so much).  Gore is all we have and he's getting up there om age.

  6. Luck                      89.4                      2

    TY                          83.4                    10

    Castonzo               81.6                      14

    Mewhort                 83.1                     14

    Kelly                       78.8                      17

Kelly is improving every week.  Hoping he breaks into the 80's (above average) tier next week against Chiefs>

Both stood out to me. I still think DQ Jackson is a good veteran presence but McNary needs to go back to strictly special teams. Morrison too. Edwin Jackson needs more reps. He hits HARD.

I seriously wouldn't hold it against Grigs if he took 2 ILB's and 2 edge rushers in the 1st 4 rounds of next years draft.  Let the secondary and defensive line ride with what we have next year.  Maybe take some flyers on some RB's and Dlinemen in the later rounds.

Ryan Kelly is looking solid every week, such a good pick. Glad to see Doyle perform at a high level as well. If Robinson can do this every week, we'll be good at CB, that question is IF. Relatively good game overall, besides blowing a double digit lead at one point. Hopefully Mewhort is back next week.

I was most impressed with the fact that Edwin Jackson and Akeem Ayers are the highest rated linebackers.  None of the other linebackers are even close.  I hope they continue to improve. Even if they plateau and stay where they are, they will still make solid backups.

  9. I don't know what adjustments they made on defense after the 1st Titan's drive where they ran it down out throats, but I want to see more of it.  We did pretty good against a good offensive line and 2 good running backs especially with Anderson out.  Thanks goodness Mariotta is struggling.  They have a pretty stout defensive line as well and the makeshift oline did a good job keeping them off Luck.  Coupled with the fact Luck seems to be getting rid of the ball faster and we should be getting a couple receivers back soon, I find myself cautiously optimistic.  Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going next week.

LOL, thanks man.  I haven't even been listening to the nashville stuff this afternoon, but I definitely will tomorrow.  I think it may have been the host of the Thom Abraham show on 95.9.  Can't wait to hear him tomorrow,  The main thing that * me off about what he said was how he was implying the Colts players were soft and faking injuries due to the recent losses.  His exact quote "its amazing how much tighter your hamstrings get when you are losing"  Well, close to exact.

      Talk about bad karma.

I am disappointed they didn't say Booger McFarland?

Yep, they may have mentioned Mathis as well.  Maybe Freeney.  But definitely Cato Junes, and Sanders on defense.  And Clark, Wayne, Peyton, and Harrison on offense.  Also mentioned Polian and Dungy.  Sorry, I was just casually listening while driving home and heard bits and pieces and the general overall attitude of the talk show host.  Its one I generally don't listen to.  I'll make sure I find out and post it on here on Monday and let you know the station, talk show name, and host name.  Can't wait to here what he has to say now.  I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary with the other talk shows.  Wycheck, Blaine Bishop, Chad Withrow, etc are usually pretty cool.  But this guy was getting on my nerve.

  12. Well, if you read my original post, you would see that it was the talk show host on one of the radio broadcasts they have on in the after noon.  He's around 70, so I guess he would remember the old days.  BTW, it was a Titan radio talk show host, not a Texans fan. It wasn't the morning show, or the midday 180, or the 3 hour lunch.  It was the one with the old guy that runs in the afternoon. Not sure why you are getting so defensive with my post.  Are you calling me a liar? I was listening to Nashville talk radio on the way home from taking my son for a checkup and heard the analysts being excited about the game and how they were chucking over the injury report.  And it was the Friday show, not Tuesday or Wednesday.  My bad,  I still don't remember the exact quotes.  I didn't have someone taking down notes for me in the car.  Maybe you can go back and listen to the recording.  I'll have to figure out what the name of the show is tomorrow and the name of the host tomorrow when I listen to them meltdown.  Love being called out by someone that doesn't even know me on a public forum.  You can go back and fact check me crazycolt and let the forum know what you find out.

For someone who don't remember any exact quotes your sure remember what was said? Who were these people? Callers? Players? Coaches? the GM? the Owner?

If it's talk radio and it was fans who called in it means zero.

You think if somehow the Colts lets say won 2 or 3 games in a row the talk in this forum would be different?

I find it strange that you mentioned those people were talking about Cato June. He is a player that mostly only Colts fans remember. For present Texan fans  bringing his name up really dumbfounds me.

  14. Don't remember any exact quotes, it was on Tuesday or Wednesday I was listening.  But, to paint a broad stroke.  The only person they fear is Luck.  They said our offensive line, defense, Pags, and Grisgson are horrible.  Pags and Grigson are nothing compared to how Dungy and Polian were.  They said Dungy wasn't the best coach, but he was a good leader.  Said Polian knew how to draft.  They were talking about how they remembered there were always 5 or 6 guys Titans fans could count on from the Colts to hurt them.  Peyton, Marvin, Wayne, Dallas Clark, Bob Sanders, and Cato June.  Now, they fear no one but Luck.  They also mentioned how Grigson can't seem to find anymore guys like the aforementioned  Where they were kind of laughing is when they were going over the injury report.  Said something like "kind of funny how Colts players start getting injured when they start losing all the time."

I hope Andrew beats them and I get to listen to them whine.  Heck, I may even call in and mock them a little.  How soon they forget how bad their team was and how long they were horrible.

  15. are as overconfident as the local Nashville sports analysts.  Never heard them so giddy.  Guess they have every reason to think its going to be a blowout seeing as most of our average players (which is pretty much the best we have) are organizing a mash unit for this weeks game.
