It's not a complaint but I find it odd that the article mentions Brissett came to Reich with ideas. If I was underperforming at work, I'm not sure management would take my ideas seriously.

JB is probably suggesting we put Kelly in because it’s clear that I suck at this starting gig coach. :funny:

Panthers are the 3rd worst run D in the league.... And now you want to get cute in the passing game. Starting to wonder WTH Reich is doing.  RTDB...

Panthers aren't great against the pass either, but they are better than some of the horrible teams we've played like HOU, TEN, OAK, ATL, TB, and Miami.

I don’t think it matters if a team is garbage in any phase. Against us, the other teams seem to have remedied their issues, at least for the week they play us. We play a team missing half of their starting oline and we should definitely get pressure, only we don’t touch their Qb all game. We come up against the worst ranked run D in the league and our top runner gets 48 yards. A passing defense missing their top 3 cb’s and even with them, they are bottom of the league, we should definitely torch that D. What happens, 2 picks and a completion % under 50 and no TD’s.

It’s just maddening how every other team can scheme us to mask their deficiency but we can’t. I don’t understand what’s happened to this team and their ability to create. I honestly believe the Panthers could put in their 3rd string team from the preseason and we would still struggle. It’s twighlight zone I tell you.

I'm definitely thinking more hurry up. Could they give JB more freedom to make changes at the line?  Audibles & hot route some receivers on 3rd down?

More freedom? He can’t read the defenses now and you think more freedom is going to help him all of a sudden know where to throw the hot route to? He doesn’t seem to know where blitz’s are coming from which has been a large part of this teams failures. I honestly don’t know what wrinkles this team can add to kickstart a poorly flawed QB. Heck, maybe Reich is suiting up, that would be a wrinkle. Idk

Gonna add a wrinkle. Gonna have JB throw where no Colt is at knowing the ball will be off target anyway and increase the chances that the ball will accidentally find a colt receiver lmao

its all a giant conspiracy.  Luck's retirement was a ruse to allow him to seek experimental and top secret total body titanium upgrades. He's gonna unretire in January, so they don't need to evaluate any other QBs. This ensures a top 12 draft pick, for which Ballard will turn into 3 top 10 draft picks next year. Making the Colts a super team with a cyborg at QB that cannot be hurt, tired and have a 100% completion rate on 90 yard throws.

It is possible but how many wr's will we go through during a season of 90 yard go routes? I would spend my money on titanium plates for my cyborg receivers instead of the QB. lol

I still think there are things going on behind the scenes in colts brass . Letting Jacoby finish this thing out is strange to me. We all know he is regressing not getting better

I am still not so sure luck isnt just taking a year off. Playing your backup makes sense to me if this is the case.  Otherwise is it not time to evaluate some other guys? This money thing is just strange for me to understand paying millions you dnt have to thoughts?.

Good questions I suppose. While I don't believe that Luck is coming back to play, it is plausible that Luck just took the year off to be with his new wife and new baby and to enjoy a few of those milestones that can never be regained.

As for the why is JB playing over evaluating the other guys in a lost season, great question. I am on board with seeing how Kelly could react and play in the live games against real nfl talent, if nothing more than to see is the kid worthy of a roster spot over either JB or Hoyer. Perhaps he is, the public isn't going to get to see it this year unless both JB and Hoyer are injured. The flip side of the coin in allowing JB to finish the season is to study JB to the end. I am not sure what "little things" the team is referring to when it comes to adjustments and saying that JB is going to be the man but it's in their evaluation process of do we keep flogging this dog into next year or cut bait and run before he has any roster bonuses due etc...

I would like to think that Luck just needed the season off to get his mind, body and family life right but I just can't imagine it happening. Perhaps we can look back at this post of yours in the spring and say, dang, your gut feeling had something to it. Until then, the fan base is just left to hang out and dry. Will we have any further success or was the CB and Reich show only successful because of Luck or was JB so awful that even a well stocked and rounded team couldn't overcome such pathetic play from JB. I guess we will figure out the plan in April.

  6. I think you are definitely bringing back

    Pascal

    Fountain
    Johnson

    Most likely

    AC

    Mclaughlin

    Eldrenkamp

    MAC

    probably
    J. Williams

    Andrews

    Haeg

    maybe

    Sheard

    Travis

    Funchess

    Coley

    Milligan

    Geathers

outside of the first 4 guys, and only AC is an UFA that is gonna cost you premium cash, I can’t see any reason the team wouldn’t Re-sign AC. We have cash and cap and not one player to hold that spot. The only way we don’t sign him is if he wants a 5 yr deal and wants a top 3 pay perhaps. Outside of that, he has really performed at a high level and I’m not sure we have a better option available to us. Maybe if we had 2 #1’s this draft you could argue take the QB and the LT but you could also still say pay AC and get QB and DL.

so if the article is accurate and those guys are. ERFA or RFA, not one chance the wr’s don’t get signed.

I believe this is a phenomenon. Could it apply here?

After seeing how flawless Brees made his completions against our defense, it’s quite possible that JB looks better against our defense than anyone else’s. I’m quite amazed that the defense is that bad, regardless of which HOF QB is throwing it, an nfl defense isn’t supposed to look that horrific.

Ballard doesn't control who starts and who doesn't.  That's a coach's job. and forcing a coach to play someone is exactly what got Ryan Grigson in trouble and a sign of a bad GM. Ballard's job is to fill the roster, the coach's job is to evaluate and play whoever. That said, I'm sure it'll be discussed but Ballard wont over rule and shouldnt over rule Reich

This is what the GM is for each offseason, evaluation of the tools used that was given to the head coach. How did the players respond? Did you play the right guys? How was your decision making in situations? How have you managed all the players? And what were your outcomes with your management of the team? If CB feels he gave the correct tools to FR, he has to be graded pretty poorly this season. You would think somewhere along the way, CB has encouraged FR to take a look at Kelly maybe since the experiment with JB has gone off the cliff. Same evaluation goes for the Vinny choice. Who made the decisions to keep him out there game after poorly kicked game? Irsay also gets to perform year end evaluations on the performances of his guys. I think I’d be concerned opening my review package if I were any of these guys on the staff and everyone is brutally honest in the evaluation process.

I underStand the learning curve talk but game 14 and I haven’t seen improvement. I haven’t seen anything that suggests he will grow into whatever they envisioned for him. That whether he’s in man or zone. One INT and that was on a gift by Foles. 4 pass deflections on the year.

Not buying the Desir not being healthy angle either. He’s getting beat by multiple types of WRs. Fast, possession, and backup

    QBs

Coaching and scheme. We’ve seen some good and some bad from Rock. I’m giving him the rookie pass as a second round pick up. If we could get a little pressure up front, it would accelerate his curve as well but qb’s have all day to scan, set and throw darts. Let’s revisit Rock next season, but I do get your concern just as well.

as for Desir, if the groin is and has been an issue, I could definitely see that being an issue. How the team has dealt with injuries this year has been odd and probably some of the worst we’ve seen in years. I’m not sure what’s happening here but the team in general feels like it’s in disarray. But as for Desir, if he was replaced by a new guy next season, I doubt he is missed too badly. Give me a penetrating DT and that backfield, including our missing FS Hooker, would look 10 times better due to quicker and more off balance throws. Our scheme and front line need to be better.

colt1  I have seen every pass that Chad Kelly has thrown in college and preseason.  Gardner Minshew is from my hometown saw nearly every pass he threw in HS and his last year at WSU.  I would take Gardner over JB and I would take Kelly over Gardner.  Kelly and Gardner are more accurate that JB.  Kelly has one of the strongest arms in the league and that is not up for debate.  Can he improve of course Chad can.  Kelly was not any trouble at Ole Miss despite what you hear.  The coaches and CB are caught kind of like the Jags were with Foles.  The paid all this money and should not have.  They are so scared that Kelly will show up and show out that they will have to answer for their decisions.  Management has to show some courage.

I don’t think they are afraid to have Kelly look way better than JB, I think they’ve honestly felt that they had something in JB they could solve. It’s apparent, they can’t. I’d like to see the team go in a new approach of you either perform or you will get replaced by the next man up and if you handle it poorly, you can play elsewhere. We have the new generation approach of handing out participation trophies to everyone. That stupid runner up banner set the stage for being weak on accountability. We need to strategically toughen up in many areas of accountability.

Agree, JB handling and the Vinny handling has this team in “who gives a crap” mode. TY was so frustrated out there last night. Worked his tail off to get back and play and for what, balls thrown all around you but not to you. It’s just sad we are watching Mr Rogers ( 70’s kids get the reference) handle team deficiencies. Vinny should have been IR’d 6 games before he was and JB should be benched for Hoyer or Kelly or you bring someone else over games ago. JB has killed this teams will and the fan bases patience, because many of us had it even if we weren’t certain how JB would pan out, we gave him time to show us he was as bad as he is. Now the team won’t deviate from having poor performances. Frustrating

Desir finessed a few good games against D-Hop into a nice contract. This place loves to overhype the players on this team.

Him and Rock have been abused all year

Rock is a rookie and you expect a learning curve plus he is a better man cover than our crappy zone we go into a lot. Desir, while he got another contract, it wasn’t like we paid him elite #1 money. He got a solid payday for 2019, more than he is earning this year for sure but what’s great, he is cuttable with no cap hit after the year. Had he performed well, we had him for respectable money, if he regressed, he can leave without injury to the cap. No sweat. Good contract strategy imho. Saying that, I think Desir has been injured most of the year and let’s face it, the scheme has not been pretty all season.

It all starts at QB I’m afraid

Agreed. A competent QB improves the oline blocking by being accurate, decisive and ability to read what’s coming early. He also improves his receivers by anticipating where they break and open, being accurate when throwing and helping receivers catch balls in their vision, not behind them or into the ground or making them leap 2 feet to catch. A competent qb opens up the run game because teams can’t just stack and blitz knowing you either can’t see it or you can’t hit your hot read, if he knows we have one. A competent qb helps the defense because even when you can’t score on every series, at least you can get a few first downs and give the defense rest and hope for their next series. If they have no faith that you can either score or even get a first down, spirits break quicker and no doubt they wear down quicker.

coaching has not helped JB look any better than he has but maybe this is it and you can’t dumb it down any more. This may be JB’s ceiling which begs the question, why is he still the starter with that knowledge. Either Kelly is terrible in practice or the coaching staff really believe they see traits in JB they can correct. I just can’t see football IQ in JB over this season, healthy or injured. This team feels poorly ran with how they’ve handled Vinny and with a poorly performing JB over multiple games so far. I just think your elite teams make a change well before now, especially on marginal type players. JB was never going to be a superstar, he was hopefully going to be capable of allowing guys around him to perform. JB doesn’t get them close to being allowed to perform well cause he either can’t find them or he can’t hit them. Coaching needs to evaluate themselves here.

special teams, that staff needs cut and new hires brought in.

Neither of these things will happen.  Still something is going to happen.  Two weeks in a row Jim Irsay has refused comment when asked after a Colts loss,  he ALWAYS talks to the media when things are good or bad and at times when he probably shouldn’t.  I take that as a sign that Jim is very unhappy with how things are going right now and Ballard and Reich are going to have to come up with a plan he believes in.

Let’s hope so. Is McDaniels still available :hide:

If  they still feel Brissett  is the guy then I doubt  they will have jobs by the end of next season

Idk anymore. This is a franchise who extended both a crappy GM and a very similar, but nicer guy, in Pagano. They both seen two contracts before realizing it was a mess that wasn’t fixable. Sometimes the blind loyalty the team gives is a detriment to themselves in the long term.

  16. 3 minutes ago, Stephen said:

Nah keep  him in now. We need to lose a couple  more then draft a qb and wrs.

And quite honestly it might be the team strategy. The concern here is, the fan base is frightened that the club still considers JB as their guy, the franchise starter. That’s a scary possibility.

I don’t know the ramifications of the team cutting JB after the season or a June 1 cap cut or when any escalators come into effect but this team can’t roll JB out next season as a starter. Maybe they hold JB until after the draft so it’s not 100% obvious they are going QB. It they have to find another QB as their guy.

None of the QB's I have listed were better than JB and JB isn't better than Luck. I just think it is time to move on and draft someone. I have also already said I am fine taking Love in round 1 because I don't think Kelly is the answer.

But you haven’t even seen Kelly, that’s the issue the fan base is having. Is CB trying to show how smart he is into a top 10 pick this season and staying loyal to “his guy”? JB is being treated like he has been Brady level quality for 10 years and is given the veteran benefit of the doubt here, not a guy who has had almost 2 seasons worth of starts now. It’s beyond maddening. I can understand some patience and loyalty to a degree but we are way past that. Was with Vinny who is a HOF player, I can give some leeway with him, JB is just another guy at this point who has provided glimpses, large glimpses of exactly what he brings. Not much.

I just find it odd and strange that people are actually enjoying the fact that JB has been struggling being Colts fans. In some people's minds, JB never stood a chance from day 1 after Luck retired. I guess the fact I have seen a lot worse being Schlister, Pagel, Trudeau, Hogeboom, George, Painter, Orvlosky, Tolzien, and Hoyer that my leash is a little longer.

    1. I don’t think anyone on this colts fan train ever wanted to see JB fail, in fact a large majority thought JB would actually be an upgrade over Luck in regards to playing safer with the ball and thought he was going to be much improved by this point than he is. We all wanted to see him succeed and many held firm even after he showed what he really is, a back up at best.

    2. I’d take many of those QB’s on this team the way it’s constructed currently over this JB.

    3. you can’t trade a player who is arguably one of the bottom worst QB’s in the league right now. We couldn’t eat 3/4 of his salary and get a partner for JB. He is either cut or he is a back up for next season on this team. You can’t go into next season with him labeled as your starter. You would lose 1/4 of your season ticket base at least, probably more in a tepid market.

I was one of the posters who said let's hold back the praise on Ballard.  I kept getting beat up by this board.  So after 14 weeks what r peoples thought on the over all talent level on this team???

I still think the talent is much improved. On offense, JB has been so horrific he has the offense all out of whack. He has the defense winded before halftime because it’s 1,2,3 and out too much and quite frankly, I think the team is defeated by the handling of the team dynamics. First with Vinny and crippled leg and over the season with inaccurate JB. His only true asset is he doesn’t throw up INT’s like other poor QB’s do. It’s probably because he is so inaccurate that even the defense is thrown off by how far off the ball is thrown. Of course so many balls travel into the ground, it’s hard to pick ground balls.

  20. 21 minutes ago, 2006Coltsbestever said:

Honest question here, other than our O.Line what else is good about our team? It is not like JB is surrounded by a great team. Whoever we draft do not be shocked if he struggles unless our WR core gets upgraded and our D improves a lot.

I’m sorry but JB makes this team look way worse around him than it is.

    1. because he is inaccurate

    2. because he can’t read a defense

    3. too slow to react

    4. wears down his own defense because he is 1,2,3 and out way too much

    5. he has broken the will of his own team because his poor play hasn’t affected how the team sees him and plays him

    6. he is a complete liability

    7. the oline gets overwhelmed because they can stack and blitz anytime they want, he can’t beat the blitz ever

jB has alone given this team a high draft choice to work with since the team sat at 5-2 and I honestly can believe this team has won a game let alone 5. Huge huge regression of this team.
