I’m as happy with the kicking game as anyone else. But everyone %ting on Vinny right now needs to grow up. Gives us years of clutch, game winning kicks, has one bad season and suddenly he’s public enemy number one.

He was great for us up until this season for sure. Any other player was cut a long time ago. This team has been. Waaaaaay more than patient with this guy. His time is over. Both can be true.

But.....but......in Ballard we trust.  I will say it again as I did at the beginning of the season.  Luck's leaving the team will show the true level of talent on this team.

It’s pretty unfair to say here is our blue print on winning knowing you have the QB play set in Luck and added weapons etc so they focused in another area and then all of the sudden, you take out the engine. I’ll give him some leeway on that aspect. His choices and some decisions after Lucks departure is suspect though. Paying JB bigger money unnecessarily, sticking with him, not dressing Kelly, sitting Wilson, Tyquan Lewis, EE debacle etc...

Here, let me sum up the next 2 hours of comments:

Every player sucks, every rookie was overrated, Jacoby Brissett is trash, Ballard can't draft, annnnd Frank can't coach.

    Save you guys some time.

I mean you ain’t far off it appears.

JB could throw a 99 yard TD pass and there would still be a few on here bashing the dude saying he was lucky or the pass was bad. It has been so comical for weeks now that I am used to reading the stuff.

If it wasn’t his first really nice passing TD in 12 weeks, he would have support. That throw still wasn’t perfect for as wide open as he initially was. He was late on the throw and a better CB would have either knocked it down. Now he throws into triple coverage. He is t good no matter how much you want him to be so.

Kelly is on the active roster but I wonder if he is active for the game.

This was my intention of the post, Kelly is not activated for any of the games so far and I contend he won’t because it would show up either CB or Reich for sticking with a below avg JB at QB. Can you imagine if this team put Kelly in at QB because JB got injured and he balled out? Those who have been saying JB needs to sit would get so loud it would be scary and it would lend some to push the narrative that CB and Reich are time deaf and playing “their guy” come hell or high water.

my saying this is not an endorsement that says Chad Kelly is the guy and possesses all worldly skills that only Manning and Brady had, no, it’s simply saying that I don’t see JB as a future and it would be nice to see the team see what they have in live action with Kelly as opposed to trying to save their own face. Kelly could also flat out be garbage and fail, at least come time of the draft, the team knows fully that they have 3 QB’s on the roster that are not the future.

i disliked Grigson because he was arrogant and unwilling to bend to common sense after his first successful season and we are flirting with watching a repeat of that horrific era in CB and Reich if they don’t learn to adapt in real time. The way they are handling JB, Kelly, Wilson and Ebron is so odd. The Cain train was weird because we cut a guy who was extremely well thought of in last season and during the preseason.  It was witnessed and reported on by people inside and outside the organization how well this kid was looking yet we cut him in lieu of Dulin or Rogers or even Williams. Personnel issues are handled haphazardly here so far this season. No rhyme or reasoning really.

oh well, we shall watch old JB hobble out in the big. Race and throw those 2 yard dump offs and the holding of the ball for an hour and a half while his stare down target tries to get 10 yards wide open and stopped at a spot for JB to rifle it in there.

  6. Pretty sure the Colts won’t put Chad Kelly on the active roster in fear of JB going down and being forced to display that Kelly shows better potential than what we’ve seen from JB. There is simply no reason to have Kelly on the team if you have zero intentions of using him. You could literally use Hoyer as the mentor, film room study guy and all those reasons you’ve listed for having him, not dress him and use Kelly as a back up and still have Hoyer mentor the kids as a non dressed QB making millions of wasted dollars.  It’s almost like CB is forcing his decisions to be correct because he is sticking with the same garbage plan. He is losing some credibility from the fan base on how he and Reich are running this show. It’s at a level not far from the Grigson/Pagano led duo. It’s maddening.

So we're going to let one of our best play makers in Ebron, walk. Sound like an excellent move. No offense to jack he's a good player but he is not the playmaker that Ebron is. Say what you want about him but he can't throw the ball to himself. The only thing that changed was his QB.

Problem with EE is, he gets a 30 yard play and then crickets. JD gets 6 first down catches allowing others to get a TD. It’s called, doing your job when it’s called vs the look at me, I got a big completion and then nothing. I’ll take consistently moving the chains over an every now and then big time play guy with several oops sorry type plays.

I guess we're going to beat this horse to death in multiple threads.  Just to summarize comments:

    1) JB is obviously conservative or lacks confidence in his ability to throw longer, perhaps knowing he's not good at it.

    2) Within those stats, what teams also had quality receiving options?  I would bet that if there was an informed ranking of the NFL's "best" receiving squad....measured by the players who have actually played and not just rostered (accounting for TYs absence) I would wager that the Colts receiving corps would rank in the 30's, if not dead last.   You can blame the ranking on the QB, but whatever judgmental method there is to measure receivers, I'd bet the Colts would be judged very low.

    3) Most of the QBs ranked high on that list are experienced NFL QBs.  We'd have to look closer as to why Minshew and Murray rank highly, but it probably has to do with circumstances.

    4) On the bottom of that list, JB seems to be in good company with some very good QBs that a lot of teams would want.

    5) The first 8 games had a quick short passing game.  Since TY's, JB's, and Mack's injuries, it has become more sluggish.

6). Reich's old team, Wentz/Philly, is not ranked highly.  There may simply be a philosophical bent towards favoring a ball control possession passing game and not a chunk/quick scoring passing game, along with its risks of incompletions and loosing possession of the ball by punting.

Two things concern me with JB and this team. The playcalling and execution have been horrific most of the season regardless of the pass catchers. Bowen had a stat on his podcast yesterday that talked about QBR by the quarters.  JB early in season was passing at a 100+ for the first which is considered really high level. Conversely, he was throwing 65ish in the 4th Q. These stats overlapped for 2017 as well which shows us a pattern. Good when scripted plays come out bad when you need him to perform using his own skills. Not going to just pile on JB, he just is who he is.

The second aspect though has been Reichs playcalling. It’s not been the greatest and I feel like he hasn’t always created plans this year that helps JB look better than he is. Maybe nothing he gameplans at this point can help outside of hoping the run game can consume 75% of the game and succeed while letting JB dump off passes and be safe with the ball. Idk I would like to see Reich create better plays for what we have left at this point though.

I’ll put this here for discussion. This seems to be more of the same double speak coaching talk crap

we are getting. Either these guys have some weird plan they aren’t sharing or they are flying by the seat of their pants. If the article says they made an in game adjustment on pecking order of RB, and one assumes it’s based from in game production, then why too could this not apply to the QB situation and usage? Each week, my expectations for how solid this coaching staff is lowers. It’s not at Pagano level but he Pagano has more time to become disheartened. If Reich keeps trying to ramrod JB down the fans throats as “the guy” when he clearly isn’t a franchise type QB, he is going to reach Pagano level soon by being stubborn in this one area while adopting changes in other areas based on performance on the field (Williams/Cain) or in practice (Wilson/Lewis). If you are going to adapt in game changes with performance matchups, that should apply to a QB that’s not Manning or Luck caliber having 1 off game.

It's another limitation with JB.  He has little touch and doesn't throw flairs, and screens very well.

Fullbacks are hard to account for in the passing game, but would be obselete with JB at QB.

It seems all our pass catchers are limited with JB throwing the ball. :wall:

With us not having a sure thing at QB and condidering the talent of our O-line, could a fullback be an answer? I would love to us use TEs as a fullback or draft a Fullback with some hands. We have proven to be a physical power blocking offense this season. Why not go all in on being a full force run team would definately help any developing QB. Vikings and 49ers have it, we could too.

I certainly think it’s a legit question. Didn’t we recently sign a TE that was like 260+? If he is a blocker (I’d assume he is) could be a possibility with a small % of pass catch potential to just keep a defense at least honest enough to have to look at him if he goes out of the backfield now and then. Oh how I wished we still had Hentges.
