  1. i had a thought today, while listening to m&m in the morning, that what if the media is blowing this(Peyton movin on) up to set themselves up for a more dramatic story after (if) Irsay decides to keep Peyton.

Irsay has said that if Peyton wants to, he'll be a colt next year. And Peyton has made it clear he wants too. Altho I am aware that Irsay did show some concern about the cap space.

So if you take each guy for his word, Peyton stays a colt next year.

Yet everyone (except T. dilfer) at espn is saying he's leaving, he's gone, he's moving on. Cause if they weren't what else is there to talk about? NBA doesn't get interesting till the playoffs.

Irsay has already said he's taking the best QB in the draft, and as of right now it's luck. So if everyone at espn believes Peyton is on the move, but Irsay decides to keep him... Espn is gonna blow up, I can hear it now.

OMG the unexpected no absolutely no one saw this coming

what does this mean for the #1 pick???

    Do they still take Luck???

    Can Peyton and Luck coexist???

Is this gonna hurt luck's development???

How many games does Peyton get before the fans start chanting for luck???

If Peyton isn't healthy Irsay made the dumbest move ever

Does he pay that bonus in 20s 50s or 100s

Oh the drama that is the Indianapolis colts.....

Talk about adding insult to injury, literally.....

Espn has lost all credibility with me.

  2. It is easy to be at Duke and make the meeting back in Indy. a flight from NC to Indy probably takes an hour. Subtract the hour in time zones. Peyton just time traveled. boom

My vote for best post of the night....."boom"...I likey lol

But with that said I'm from Illinois and when we travel to Indiana we lose an hour

    Still love the post tho

  3. I don't know but if Peyton ends up being retained, Krapitz dug himself a deep hole. Congratulations you just been black balled for another 10 years by the Colts. Polian was right about him.

it would be hard to see him write in indy ever again....

wouldnt it be funny if he turned out to be the "source" all the espn experts use...

  4. I have nothing against Eli, I think he has a lucky horseshoe stuck up his butt, but I have no hard feelings. Actually this last SB he played awesome. (Although as they just pointed out on Felger and Mazz that 1st TD they got Mayo was right there to PICK it off but over ran the play. Just shows how this is a game of inches huh lol)

I don't hate ELI, he hasn't beaten the Pats the Giants have beaten the Pats. :)

agreed, everyone seems to forget its a team sport.

    myself included

  5. What does "getting a bit into it" even mean? By asking you a direct question?

Secondly, I have the ability to discern what is meaningful and what is not. It is a gift. Much if not most of the rhetoric we have heard from Irsay & Manning is completely meaningless. They have both carefully positioned themselves with outs. Reading the tea leaves should have told anyone long ago he is done as a Colt.

I will be absolutely shocked if Peyton is a Colt next month.

    Get your popcorn ready...

You'll need a drink too, so u don't choke on the popcorn

  6. Give me a break.

    1) I did not attack you in any way shape or form. Simply disagree with your take on what Irsay & Manning's comments actually mean.

    2) Why refuse to answer a simple, honest question? Is Manning a Colt in a month?

ok I didn't say u attacked me, just seems to me your getting a bit into it...

But yea if Peyton is healthy hes a colt next month, Irsay said it himself.

You have reason to believe Irsay is lying?

  7. GoColts8818 is spot on - there is nothing to those comments by Manning. IMO, those desperately seeking good news in a return to the Colts by Manning are reading way too much into that.

Question - a month from now, is Manning a Colt? I know what you want to have happen, but in your mind is what will happen the same?

    Reading to much into it???

I'm reading into Irsay saying if Peyton wants to be a colt next year he will.

And Peyton saying he wants to end his career here.

    That I am guilty of...

Everything else is brought on by the media and that...your reading into, way too much...

    You sir...just made my day

    Thanks:D

  8. Sometimes I wonder, with how much Irsay listens to the teams fans and his critics, that we don't negatively affect the outcome of the circumstance simply by the fanbases mood. Which could all be based on some false ESPN media spin generated to create controversy. Do we affect Irsay's thoughts and decisions on the organization? Could, for example, Irsay ultimately take the side of Luck/Rebuilder position simply because their social media voice is so loud (which in many ways includes ESPN)? Is the thought of acceptance of change creeping into Irsay's head because of the input he gets from news outlets, twitter, and fan sites?

Are some of the fans pulling an Inception on Irsay?

Let me know if I'm getting my point across there, it hurt my brain to try to decribe what I was thinking.

I get what your saying 100% the media plays a big role in the decision making in today's world, if people hear something over and over again, it goes from rumor, to where there smoke there's fire, to it must be a fact.
  9. I'm quoting myself here, so that makes me a reliable source to myself...LOL.

I may want to put a disclaimer on this statement, because I recall Albert Pujols saying he wanted to play his entire career in St. Louis. I know this situation is a bit different, since PM is not a free agent at the moment.

The thought of losing Albert Pujols from my baseball team and Peyton Manning from my football team within months of each other is depressing.

I recall that day...it was not a very good one, that same day they started speculating about Peyton too...

I will say in AP defense that he was due that money along time ago and greedy bill Dewitt(?) didn't want to fork it up...

I'll stop now cause I can go on forever...

  10. thanks, good article

It will be interesting to see how much longer QB's will be playing since they are pretty much wearing a red-shirt in the games now. For example, Namath, did anyone see that HBO special on him? wow those were some brutal hits he took. You don't see QB's getting hit like that now days. It will be interesting to see if that age of decline goes up with the new rules for QB's and safety priority.

My thinking also...I believe with will extend it by a significant amount of time

But I guess one could argue the players are a lot bigger and faster these days and it only takes one hit to end a career.

  11. Peyton didn't deny it he just didn't confirm it. Those are two very different things. Look Adam could very well be wrong but just because Peyton laughed it off doesn't mean it's not true it just means Peyton didn't say it was true.

i thought he did he said something along the lines of "the thing about sources is they think they know everything, but they are not real accurate, I haven't had any discussions with Tom" to me that sounds like he denied it. But keep in mind you(public figures) just can't go disregarding the media, they don't like that, and thats how a hero(whom ever it may be) gets turned into a "bad guy" over night...

Plus I know I was taught as a young boy, if you want it to go a way pay no attention to it...

  12. Releasing PM before paying him the option bonus of $28MM due March 8, will result in a one-time hit to the 2012 salary cap of $10.4MM.

Luck/RG3 will hit the salary cap as follows, assuming the contract will be a 5% increase of Cam Newton's contract:

    2012: $4.2MM

    2013: $ 5.2MM

    2014: $6.3 MM

    2015: $7.4MM

    Total $23.1 MM

A #3QB at league minimum will hit the salary cap at $0.4MM each year.

In 2012, we have the remnants of the Collins contract that will hit the salary cap at $1.25MM, and the remnant of Painter (if we cut him) of less than $0.1MM.

So the scenario if you cut PM without paying the option bonus due March 8, the QB salary cap hit will be:

    $10.4MM PM cut

    $4.2 MM Luck/RG3

    $0.4MM #3QB

    $1.25MM Collins remnant

    Totals: $16.25MM

In 2013, if we assume the QB roster is Luck/RG3 and a #3QB, the salary cap hit will be : $5.6MM

Nevermind I guess I assumed wrong.
  13. Cutting Peyton before March 8th takes Peyton off the books after this year but you are right it would cause about a 10.5 million cap hit for this season. That's why that date is so important. If we cut him after March 8th then we have a cap hit for the remainder of the contract not to mention that cap hit jumps a lot.

Yea I just assumed it was for the remainder of the contract, thanks for verification
  14. The problem is the Rams are most likely going to trade their pick so someone can grab rg3. Of course I can be wrong but they have a franchise QB who has shown some bright spots. If the colts trade, they will not only miss out on Luck but also RG3. Like I said I can be wrong but I'm willing to put my money on the rams trading their pick.

The rams, I believe have every intention on trading that pick but with Cleveland trading with us no one else will have the pieces the rams want to make that trade, Washington maybe but fisher will be asking for the first pick and some quality players that Washington will not want to part ways with.
  15. I'm having a hard time understanding this post...where did the Luck 17m/yr figure come from? Cutting Manning and taking Luck would save the Colts a significant amount of money over the next 4 years. People think we can just kick Manning after 2 years or so but forget his cap hit gets worse each year and the dead money that would be associated.

FYI lucks cap hit will be 4.2mish. Peyton down the road would end up 20m in his final year. On a per year basis the amount of money saved between Luck and Manning is enough to go sign a lot of our potential f/a's down the road and even acquire much better talent from f/a.

Cutting Peyton leaves us with a 10.5mil? Dead cap space for the next 4 yrs(could be wrong) I figured 4.5 for luck, with like 500k increase a yr(just a guess) then Collins' cap it 1.5mil or 2.5mil I know its one or the other. So I figured it would be about 17 next yr with Collins' and with a pay raise the following year about 17 after.
  16. sorry but i prefer to stop living in the past. your just a peyton fan not a colts fan.

it's actually really simple do u want the best QB or the best team???

And from there you can go why take the cap hit and cut Peyton if he's healthy...it would be like signing luck to a 17 mil a yr contract for the next 4 years. Then we would also have to sign a quality veteran back up, just a guess, but another 2 mil there...that's a lot if money spent on the QBs, as if we don't already have enough tied up in the QB already

  17. No because the foundation you want to build the future shouldnt be built on aging concrete with quesitonable strength.

If we are going to be builing anything, do you think Manning wants to be a part of that? What if it takes 2-3 years to build a contender? Then you have a 38-39 year old QB if he even makes it that long.
