  1. And he will get a standing ovation.

It sucks. My youngest daughter was old enough to start enjoying football. She kept telling me she wanted to go to a Colts game to watch Manning play.

I too will have to explain to my 6 year old son why Peyton (number 18) isn't a colt next year...

I had explain to him why Albert isn't a cardinal any more just a couple months earlier...

I'm afraid "it's a business decision" just isn't cutting it for the lil ones...

    Poor kids

  2. I know! I remember the broadcast where it was announced that Pujols had signed with the Angels and that was the first broadcast I had seen where it was speculated that Manning wasn't going to be back with the Colts.

I'm not really one to enjoy watching other people play games, but when it comes down to it, it's always been the Colts, the Cards, the Hoosiers.

Having the Cards lose Albert and the Colts lose Peyton in the same off-season is almost too much to bear.

Could you imagine how horrible it would be if the atom bomb had been dropped on IU *THIS* year and not 2008 (assuming you're a Hoosier fan)?

sorry U of I fan here... But I do recall the bomb your referring to...

Either way the day AP signed with the angels(which IMO is all on the cards and DeWitt) and they first speculated about pm I thought to myself this is not a god day to be a midwesterner...

  3. Be certain of one thing.

Whether Manning goes to a team like KC/Arizona that will have some hybrid/combo of their system & his system, or a team like Wash/Hou/Mia that will likely run some form of the WCO, or a team like the Jets that I could see fully installing the Manning system by bringing Moore back.

No matter what team he ends up with. No matter what type of offensive scheme he ends up in. He will own that offense. He will put in the time/effort/work to get his new weapons on the same page as he was with the guys he had here. If 87 joins him with the new team, it will make that transition easier.

He will own whatever offense he runs.

He'll own the opposing defense as well....
  4. ESPN is showing Manning more love than people on here. Now if heck hasnt froze over, someone wake my butt up from this nightmare.

I cried my eyes out watching that. Im ticked, ticked, wanna punch the crap outta something, sad, upset, disgusted, and trying to handle what just happened. Im a Taurus, its expected.

It'll be fine...just another team to root for...just be blessed that he still wants to play and not retiring like some speculated...

This is the second great player I've seen leave my team in the last couple months...this one just has hard as Albert.

  5. I doubt we get every detail, but you can read between the lines.

    Manning

    • Wouldn't want to babysit his replacement.
    • Would prefer the draft pick traded or used on someone that will play immediately.
    • Wouldn't want to deal with the influx of the new Luck fans calling for his head if he throws an interception(a lot of good acting in this thread by the way for some).

    Irsay

    • Luck will likely play longer than Manning will
    • Doesn't want to stunt the growth of Luck
    • Cash
    • Cap
    • Control of his franchise

It was a perfect storm that forced this issue. Injury, Worst coach in the NFL, Worst Starting QB in the NFL failing to replace the best QB in the NFL, recent poor drafts. High dollar contract, Due date. A lot of variables.

Some say that if the Colts had the 3rd or 5th pick, then all would be well. Manning would return, etc. I don't see that. I would see Irsay throwing away future #1's to move up to get him, if Painter would have managed to win a few of the games that he should have.

It will be odd watching Manning over the next few years as the Colts struggle breaking in a new QB.

Well put FJC....a perfect storm indeed...
  6. Peyton you are the greatest...on and off the field, your time as a colt will always be remember and cherished. Oh how I wish it could have been different. But now you get to show another teams fan why you are the one and only true g.o.a.t. I'll always remember you with that horseshoe on your head...

Best of luck with your new team, Im sure all of us will still be rooting for you Peyton, heck some even when u play the colts.

Peyton Manning, greatest of all time....nuff said...

  7. If a coaching staff and management is really stringent about it, they can go from a 4-3 to a 3-4 in 2 years and be done with it in that time. One really important factor for offensive line play is chemistry; the longer guys play together, the better they get. You want Peyton to come back to a rebuilding team, with a rebuilding defense, with an offensive line in flux, with a brand new set of coaches that will want to implement their own systems, and expect him to have success?

I'm a huge Peyton fan; few things would make me happier than seeing Peyton win another one or two championships. But this is not likely the best place for him to win a championship. We have holes all across the board, OL, WR, maybe TE, DT, CB, SS, KR/PR. Plus, the pressure would be on him to mentor Luck. That's like Irsay saying "hey, here is your replacement, not spend the last few years of your career teaching him and making him better than you instead of going out to win a championship". Which would be a bigger slap in the face? Him saying that or him saying "Peyton, you can leave the Colts and go wherever you think you have the best chance of winning a championship"? I'm a huge Peyton fan and it really bums me out that he won't be playing for the Colts anymore...I mean REALLY bums me out. But we have to consider all the perspectives.

Yes I agree with all this but, this team isn't As bad as every one thinks the defense is based on the offense to score a lot of points, so our pass rushers can get to there QB while he's attempting to throw the ball. If we don't score points they can run the ball, taking our pass rushers and our defense out of the game. Also to think that Irsay didn't even think(at least not long) about trading the pick I bet gets to Peyton. But I actually look forward to Peyton playing on another team, one with a running game and a decent defense.
  8. Let's try to be respectful, please. No need for name-calling or any of that; let's keep it civil, please.

As for you wishing Peyton destroys the Colts when they play, I must disagree. It is very likely that the separation is mutual and that Peyton doesn't want to be here. He doesn't want to spend his last few years playing for a rebuilding team and mentoring his replacement when he could leave and go somewhere else and have a better chance to win championships. Sure, it might be loyal to do that, but it wouldn't necessarily be the best thing for him. Athletes want to win and be the best at everything and Peyton is one of the biggest competitors in the league. He wants to go and win while Irsay wants to rebuild his team and let Peyton go and have a chance to win championships

Mutual...with all do respect there is nothing mutual about it. Peyton is gonna go on tv and say it's in the best interest that this happens, of course he's gonna take the high road he always has...but in all actuality he's thinking I gave this franchise everything I had for the last 14 years, from taking a BIG pay cut, playing hurt, to basically playing by himself...now Irsay has the opportunity to make this team a better ovaerall team and let Peyton go out on top without making him have to drag this team through every season...and he's says were moving on without you....that's a slap in the face, but as usual Peyton will be Peyton and take it like the true champ he his and cut his loses...but in the back of his mind he has a stat sheet envisioned, prolly looks like this 35-40 500 yds and 6 TDs, and a "take that Irsay", then when he's walking off the colts field he'll stop put his head down and think...this was my home...I can't believe it
  9. That he could still be re-signed by the Colts with the terms of a new deal, right? I mean, it was probably a money thing for Mr. Irsay.

Regardless, the Manning saga isn't over. He's just been released...which is exactly what most people expected would happen.

If he goes somewhere else, then I will root for him to demolish this franchise when they meet. When they don't meet, I will be pulling for the Horseshoe to do what they can to not suck with Luck.

All that said, I would count our chickens just yet...

I too will be rooting for Peyton to destroy this team when they meet...which he will, count on it.

But with all the back lash from the fans now, I think oh Andy could be getting a lil cold feet, and could still pull an Elway....god what if Peyton signs else where and luck goes Elway...LA would be in the near future

  10. The very simple answer is Manning will not still be playing in the league in 8 years. To suggest that is, like I said in my first response, is absolutely hysterical. And par for the course from you.

And as I said before if Peyton wanted too...he could and still be better then 50% of QBs.

I know another all time great in another sport that came back in his late 30 early 40s and averaged 20 points, experts also said he could still average 20 a game when he was 46....

Oh and I must not forget... I didn't suggest he'll play till he's 45, I said he could if he wanted too. However I will suggest he will play into his forties. That's if he decides not to step away if he wins another SB.

You know u can always pm me again and we can vent some more...lol

  11. I just don't think staying here is the perfect situation.

If I were him, now that's a big stretch and it's not exactly fair to say, because I'm not him, I haven't had the success he has, the money, the awards, etc. If I were him, I'd flat tell Irsay if you trade the pick for a package where you get what you want out of it, you draw up the contract, 4-5 years. I'll sign it. Low risk up front, whatever money as a base salary, I'll finish my career here... Bring in QB x(Brady Quinn), sign Orlovsky, whatever...

I don't know what Irsay would say to that offer. He has all the money in the world he will need. He would be the hero to some for going low dollar. Some would hate him if it meant no Andrew Luck, but he's not going to be the last "best prospect since", there are plenty of ways to address the QB position.

I have a theory about why New England always has 2 #1 picks. They keep piling them up for each year, just in case they feel the need to have to use them on a QB. Obviously they might be happy with Hoyer and Mallett at this point. I really wish we could have drafted Mallett in round 3 last year so that might change their strategy, but assume Brady suffers a career ending injury this past year. They have 2 #1's, and could easily throw more picks at the Colts, or Rams, or whoever to take Luck this year, or Barkley next year, or Bray or whoever the year after that. If we got the right package for the #1 pick, we could easily follow that same strategy and go after whoever in the draft when Manning hangs it up.

Then again, that's looking at it selfishly through my view of his perspective. I don't think he wants anything to do with Andrew Luck on this team and its nothing personal against Luck. I still believe Favre would have wanted, Heath Miller, Roddy White, or some defensive player as opposed to Aaron Rodgers... If Favre retires at the same time, maybe Green Bay turns it over to Flynn this past year and they don't miss a beat. Who knows...

Wow I can say without a doubt I agree(and also have stated) with every word in this post.

Keep trading your extra number 1 pick until the day u need it, and if Cleveland(if that's our trade partner) has another bad year your looking at another high draft pick, and with all the good QBs coming out next year, you could get another kings ransom. That's of course Peytons his back to his old self

But we also agree not our decision to make

  12. If Manning was completely healthy over the last few years, the odds of him playing to his mid-forties are long at best.

You talk of Manning like he is not flesh and bones. Even someone who works as hard as he does cannot out run father time.

I said the guy works hard, not that physically gifted, and takes less hits then prolly any QB in history.

    Far from saying he's non-human

  13. I say we draft the next Peyton manning next year....his name? Tyler Bray.

Look him up the kid special, he's only a sophomore and could stay for his senior season, I imagine him and Peyton have talked a couple times.

Mark it down now, if not next year, his junior year, they will be comparing him to Peyton by his senior year. They will be talking about how he is just had good as luck was coming out. Except he's the real deal having played in the best conference in college.

  14. 1) It would be hard for me to watch more football than I already do.

    2) It would be hard for me to comprehend the game anymore than I already do.

    3) What I very clearly understand is that Manning will be in the broadcast both by the time he is in his mid-forties.

And thats cause he chooses to do so....you watch so much football then u must understand the game is changing, and the QB is pretty much untouchable.

Like I previously said if Peyton wants too, he'll play till he's 45 he's that great, period...and it's not because he's physically gifted it's because he is such a hard working, dedicated individual, he makes NFL defensives look like he is playing a college team.

This ain't about him be physically gifted like Brett Frave, this is about a average guy, with a great arm putting in the time and effort to be the best of all time. Brett got away with a lot of things cause he was so talented, with Peyton there was no room for mistakes, or his team payed the price. The guy is literally the rocky of football...somebody I would never bet against, no matter the age.

  15. I am not preventing him from posting his opinion, just laughing at it. Suggesting any QB will play into their mid-forties is funny, particularly one that has had 4 neck surgeries and may be looking at a 5th. That is suggesting that Manning has at least 8 years left to play and in an honest moment, I bet you find that funny too.

U obviously need to watch more football...it's changing...get with the program.....partna...
