You don't know that unless you have a crystal ball.  You don't even know the teams evaluation of said player.  It's just your opinion.  And those vary from coaching staff to coaching staff.

there could be a very good D player available....but if there's a GREAT rb prospect still available you almost have to take the RB...because that could be a game changer on offense.  (in the Colts case)

Do a good job in FA and the entire draft then taking a back in the first round the caliber of Cook or Fournette I don't think really makes much of a difference.   This is assuming better defensive players are off the board with that pick.

and that's the million $ question....not sure if there will be a run on QBs or if both Cook and Fournette are taken first....if both of those scenarios happen, then there will be a damned good D player available when the Colts pick.

Totally agree. Everyone loves Bruce Arians but I happen to believe that Bruce's offense instilled a lot of bad habits in Luck. Just my opinion.

Look at how long it's taken Roethlesburger to get rewired in Pitt from Bruce Arian's offense.

I'd be okay with Forunette or Dalvin Cook.  That's the only two backs I'd be cool with us taking that high.     I think if you do a good job with the rest of the draft it won't matter whether or not you took a RB in the first round.   If you take a good pass rusher with the 1st pick and you do a bad job with the rest of the draft then you're still stuck.    There's enough great defensive players in this draft to significantly improve on defense whether you take a back in the first round or not.

which is a good problem to have this year.

and if Cook or Fournette are available when the Colts pick, it'll give them that leeway to significantly improve the run game and in the other parts still improve the lb corps.

it's nice that this draft is deep in another Colts primary weakness this year. Just like last year it was deep in OL.

Thomas did not play slow.  His instincts and understanding of the game were outstanding.    I don't know what the future holds for Boulware but I don't think he's what we need.  He and Morrison are in similar molds.,

Morrison was a train wreck early in the season, though I'll admit he started to make some plays later on. How much of a leap he makes in year 2 will remain to be seen.

this is so un-Irsay like too, this is why I think he's trying to upgrade.  Question is, can he?

sure makes you think something is up....though I think that unless he can make a splash(Gruden, etc) he'll stay with what there is for at least this season.

now there could also be absolutely nothing going on too....but the secrecy sure does lead to speculation, so you never know.

All this talk about him not playing OLB in 3-4 i don't see it...I think he'll be fine,  he is fast and quick with power..He is high on my list at that position..Worst case you got a great d-lineman..

And we all know a great D and O starts up front..,.I think if Cook is off the board and Thomas is available....Take him. Pair him with a hopefully healthy Henry Anderson and wreck havoc.

  8. here's how I'm starting to see things.

These last 2 drafts couldn't have come at more perfect times for the Colts.

Last year, the Colts needed O line help badly. And what was that draft deep in? O Line. So they stock up on them and as the season went on you could start to see how much they improved (still a little ways to go but them being a jail break is over it seems)

This year, the Colts need D help badly (especially rushing the passer) So what's the draft deep in? D line and pass rushers. If they concentrate their efforts like they did last year and possibly stock up on that, then this team could be very well set for the with a young nucleus on BOTH sides.

We still need to see how it plays out but I can't help be excited at the prospects.

I think if you draft them high the expectation is to be a starter but that doesn't necessarily mean they have to be that right away.  They can rotate in and out as a group and you increase or maintain things from there.  Walden will be leaving soon anyway.  Not like he'll be here that long.  They can learn from Walden and Ayers while getting significant playing time.  There's going to be an adjustment period.  Plus injury bug forces playing time in a lot of cases.

especially with this team it seems lol

Something that I wonder about with this being a good pass rushing draft is that it's also a weak OT class. Last year was a "deep" OT class but weak in pass rusher. I wonder if they are connected.

I think these last 2 drafts could work perfectly for the Colts....last year O line was a huge need...so they draft heavily on O line and that's looking like it could have worked.

This year pass rush and D is a huge need and this year happens to be deep in that. Just have to wait and see how they draft. If it's the equivalent to how they did for the O line then they could be set for a while.
