don't think so...so he has that going for him.  :)

I was looking at his bio from the KC site and it says he played football for 4 years at U of Wisconsin-Madison, but doesn't specify the position he played.  However, he spent some time coaching, and when he did he was a Secondary Coach and then a defensive coordinator, so he most likely played in the secondary himself.

which means he has an acumen for defense possibly

Paton and Ballard are my top 2 favorites from the list.  One thing that kind of leans me towards Ballard is that he's coming from Kansas City, who runs a very similar type of defense as the current Colts.  So he's already in the practice of looking for players that fit the scheme Chuck is running.  That's not at all to say that Paton couldn't adjust...I'm sure he could.  Just saying that with Ballard there wouldn't really be an adjustment period in terms of figuring out what types of players to bring in.

In the long run, that's probably not going to be a major selling point for Ballard, but if he and another candidate come down to the wire and that's the one thing that separates them then I would lean towards Ballard.

On the flip side, there is one major negative that Ballard has going for him. If I counted right, he's the only candidate that has the same number of letters in his last name as Grigson.  So this probably takes precedence over any other positives he could bring. We should probably avoid him now that I think about it.

also is Ballard a former O lineman?

I'm not saying he's an All Pro, but I do think he'll be starting for them next year. Coming in, he needed a lot of work, especially in the weight room. I think they threw him into the lineup before they wanted, and I assume they're not giving up on him just yet.

sounds like a certain safety that was drafted by the Colts last year too.

If a candidate has ever been part of a team that did anything wrong, or was remotely associated with a team when they weren't winning, he is unsuitable and should not be considered for the Colts GM spot.

"Oh, you were an area scout for the Chargers when they lost SB29? I wish I had know that before we had you come all the way down here, sorry to waste your time. We'll be going in a different direction."

"Oh, you were a window washer in the Buffalo area when they lost four SBs in a row? I'm sorry, you are no longer under consideration."

Really lofty standards around here lately...

but you're a regular poster on the Colts message board.....you're hired!!!

threads or posts.  the bulk of the entire forum knows his faults well and they've been stated over and over again ad nauseum sometimes to the point where no one even knows what the guy does well.  that's how bad the anger is.  problem is a lot of it extreme.  it's as if we are being coached by Jerry Glanville or somebody which is silly.

yep, the Colts could do better than Pagano......but they could also do a lot worse.

Kind of like Big Ben, but also don't like him, if you know what I mean. Hope for the game he doesn't retire, hope for the Steelers, he does! He's made enough money, but I can't see him leaving any money on the table, as others have said, doesn't seem to be that kind of guy, also he likes the camera.

    and the bathroom stalls :)

Pass rush is key!  Brady can't take a hit.  Secondly, stay the hell away from zone defense.  Bill and Josh are masters at getting their receivers to find holes in your zone.  Brady just has to sit back and wait for them to be wide open.  Getting in his face with pressure and getting the ball out faster really messes up his comfort zone. If the Texans had a decent offense they'd beat the Pats for sure and could be headed to the Super Bowl.

which is why Dante Scarnecchia is their true MVP....he retires last year and their O line looks average and Brady didn't have all day to scan the field.  He returns and the Great Wall of Brady returns. I've never seen an offense where the wr's are so consistently wide open either.

If I had to choose between the 3 I'd say Barnett.  To me Thomas is a lineman or a 4-3 DE.  If you're leaning more towards 4-3 DE then I'm taking the guy who has the most production at that position already and that is Barnett.   When you break Reggie Whites sack record you got my attention.

I think we can almost all agree on that there's some real talent that will be available
