Re: Jones, they're probably waiting until the practice week is over to activate Jones so he isn't obligated to speak to the media, that's my best guess. The Patriots are doing the same with Brady right now.

As far as the offense goes, I agree. I thought we were going to see quicker, shorter routes in an effort to get the ball out of Luck's hands quicker. So far, it's just been more of the same of what we saw last year. 5 or 7 step drops, with WRs streaking down the field and Luck just chucking up 50/50 balls hoping one of them makes a play.

That makes sense with Jones. It's a long shot but he could bring some potential pass rush so I hope they throw him out there.

Yep, the similarities of Chud's offense to Pep's is disappointing--pound the ground game and run vertical routes until we are down big. Also, where are the moving pockets and boots? It's almost like they are trying to intentionally hold Andrew back.

  2. They are going to activate Jones, right? I mean, he's healthy. I don't understand why they would wait.

@Catloaf I think the lack of big plays are a result of bad offensive scheme. If Chud would run some short slants, digs, etc. to TY and PD, they could get some YAC and take pressure off of the OL and Luck. That would help open up the big plays. As it currently stands, IMO, the scheme is almost too vertical and Luck can't hit them or doesn't see them when the do break open because he's dodging all the trash in the pocket.

  3. @Valpo2004 I think 2015 is a bit low and this is a generally difficult/flawed exercise. That said, what is the actual expectation here? As in, what is a successful grade? What is the actual NFL GM average? How would Grigs compare to other GMs if you were to grade them the same way? I suppose I'm failing to grasp what you are trying to accomplish since there are no comps.

On a side note, I wish his name actually was Grigon.

Stick with the guys we have.  It's not like Gore has been playing poorly, he just isn't being utilized by the coaches.  Forsett wasn't doing so well in Baltimore so far this year, so I don't think he can solve the problems we have.

     What is, my birthday?

Edit: ruined it by quoting the wrong post...nice...was meant for @Coltsfan1953

Unless my thinking is off we should have one more spot to fill AFTER Jones and Bates are added. Cole was put on IR and we released 2 players Moore and Cro today. Jones - Cole, Bates - Moore, Cromartie - ?

You are sorta right. They signed Jeremy Vujnovich to active roster last week. I assume once Good and/or Reitz are healthy, JV will be cut.

I don't know where the team is going with this. Not saying I disagree with the decision, I just don't know (but to be fair, who does).

Releasing Cro made me think that Vontae is now FULLY 100 % healthy, and that Butler is coming back soon.

However, like some have said, Moore's release seems like a "throwing in the towel" type move. Cause whose gonna replace him? I'd imagine some sort of combination involving Edwin Jackson, Antonio Morrison, and Trevor Bates? Those guys might end up being good, but by putting them in now, they'll benefit from the PT, but the team obviously won't be better. Seems like they may have thrown in the towel.

It isn't throwing in the towel. That is ridiculous. You really think Grigs and Pagano have given up, essentially firing themselves? I said it in a post earlier, but I think it means we see a lot more 3 Safety packages.

I didn't think Cromartie played that poorly in the first 3 weeks but he was awful Sunday.

Sio Moore was awful all season so good thing he's gone. McNary and Morrison have not been any better in coverage so I don't know how we will fix that.

Honestly, I think we see a lot more of Adams, Green, and Geathers on the field at the same time, meaning one less ILB, in an attempt to fix the coverage issue.

Kahlua perhaps? I'm going to make a good breakfast and wash it down with a couple of bloody mary's. It's going to be weird watching football that early.

Probably just rye whisky and some cream. A Bloody's a good option too, and am for sure gonna get a good breakfast going.

Does anyone have the TV coverage map?

I'm trying to figure out if the Colts game will be broadcast here in Los Angeles at 630a?

I'll wake up for it if it is.........   but otherwise..........

    Anyone?         Anyone at all?

I checked my guide and it is on CBS in Oregon. I'm assuming this one is national since they aren't doing the streaming thing like they did for one of them last year.

Edit: 506 lists it as national: http://506sports.com/nfl.php?yr=2016&wk=4. You're good; get outta bed.

  10. I posted this in the Dorsett thread, but TY is on pace for 180 targets. If it keeps up, that's legit #1 WR volume--top 5. I'll be interested to see his actual stats if in fact he gets that many targets. He currently sits at #4 in targets but has a lower catch rate than the others. I would like to see him increase his efficiency over the course of the year.

    Hilton-34 targets 144 receiving snaps

Moncrief-10 targets before injury 56 receiving snaps

    Dorsett-15 targets 129 receiving snaps

Luck and Hilton have gained a lot of chemistry and he is the go to receiver overall in this offense. Luck feels comfortable with him. He is Lucks 1st read on a lot of plays.

Football is also about matchups more than anything else. If you have a wr abusing a coverage or Corner you find ways to keep that going. Hilton gave Verrett fits so you keep going at him with that matchup

This just made me take a closer look at receiving stats. Interesting how balanced WR/TE targets are outside of TY. There is TY's 34 (11.3/game), and then Dorsett, Doyle, and Allen all have 15. Moncrief has 10. So the other top 4 WR/TE options are averaging 5/game. Additionally, Ferguson, Gore, and Turbin have 26 (8.6/game).

TY is currently 4th in the NFL in targets and is on pace for 180, which is legit #1 volume. If he keeps it up, I will be interested to see his overall stats at the end of the season. For comparison, he had 130 in 2014.

He didn't have that large separation he had vs Flowers and others though.

Really? Even the crap announcers were commenting on TY working him over.

I think you mean FOUR years of data.      After all,  this is year 5 for Luck.

Meet me in the middle at three years. Injury started year 4. Either way, love me some Luck.

The reason Luck is air mailing the ball is because he is in pain and lacking in strength, he can't DRIVE the ball.  It simply hurts too much and the strength isn't there.  Every time he goes back to throw, he unconsciously lets up just a little on his throws, causing the ball to sail.

Not for nothing, Luck has had accuracy issues, particularly with high throws ahead/behind the receiver, since his rookie year. Definitively stating that air mailing the ball is because of his shoulder is ignoring two years of data.

They're not being transparent if he's still injured at all or having difficulties with his shoulder

I recall multiple times everyone from Luck to Irsay coming out and saying Luck is 100% healthy. 0 issues. All this crap suggests otherwise. We'll wait to see what happens but I just have no trust in what an NFL team says when I comes to it's injuries.

I don't know what you really expect? The Colts literally posted a story about him missing practice b/c of a sore shoulder: http://www.colts.com/news/article-notebook/Right-Shoulder-Soreness-Keeps-Andrew-Luck-Out-Of-Wednesday’s-Practice/69dc77da-4804-4306-8577-61e5cbf550b1

Andrew Luck on why he did not attend Wednesday’s practice:

    “Sore from the game.

“It was a physical game, like any football game really, so the training staff and coaches decided it was best if I didn’t go out today and just worked in the training room.”

How much more transparent, etc. do you want them to be? It is what it is--perhaps there are some lingering issues. Perhaps they are being overly cautious. As long as he plays and plays well, I don't really care.

Holder doesn't really strike me as a pillar of stability. He seems to overreact to a variety of team-related issues so it's not surprising that this is concerning to him now.

Fair enough. He's prob just flip flopping to go from one side to the other to be opposite whatever the main narrative is...

He feels like the Colts aren't being transparent about this, when in reality, they said from the get-go that they had a plan in place, and they're sticking to it. He wants there to be more to it because his job is to break stories.

I would generally agree but, during week 1, Holder was pushing the this is the plan narrative to the point where he was calling it a non-story. His 180 is interesting. Perhaps it was the "sore shoulder" report that caused the shift.

Interesting that Holder is now starting to question the situation.  Up until now he has acted as if this was a non issue. Wonder why the sudden change?

And yeah he has been limited every Thursday i believe, of course, those weeks he did not miss a Wednesday practice either.

I am interested in Holder's change in direction. Guess there's nothing to do but watch this unfold...

with all the injuries I don't know how the colts stop anyone.

Are the injuries really that bad? Davis hurts, but other than him, the Colts will not have Butler (questionable how much of an impact), Anderson (knew that would be the case), and Geathers (questionable how much of an impact). I bet Moore and Langford play. If the D can't hang in with three starters out then the season is a lost cause anyways.

    Colts win, 30-27.

LOL Mike Hart. What ever year that was (don't remember) I met this guy from NY. BIG Syracuse fan. Like HUGE Syracuse fan. He was one of the most jacked up, hyper people I've ever met. We talked a lot of football, but anyways. He kept telling me what kind of surprise we were getting with this Mike Hart. He kept on and on like he was going to be a superstar LOL.

    You thinking of Delone Carter?

I think after what happened last season the team is just taking every precaution possible. Shoulder and Kidney injuries are not be taken lightly. Grigs, Pags, and Irsay know if Luck gets injured or cant stay 100% healthy we are screwed. Once we kept him out of the Buffalo game that showed me we were just going to rest him a lot until the season started. He got quite of few reps against Philly but that is normal for a 3rd Pre-season game for starters to play and necessary. I think if Luck had any lingering affects from last season he wouldn't of played at all in Pre-season. I wouldn't worry about this. Grigs said today on the Dakich show that Luck was 100% healthy.

I agree with all this, but I just can't buy in to it 100%. I think the out of nowhere thing is what's throwing me off. The designation tomorrow will go a long way in bringing clarity.

  22. I don't see how this can't make everyone raise an eyebrow, regardless of what Grigs and Chuck say. I will only be concerned if Luck is listed as Questionable tomorrow. If Grigs is being truthful, then Luck playing is not in doubt, meaning he would not have anything listed for his game status. Questionable is now defined as "uncertain if a player will play," and there is no probable (just a reminder since this is a change from previous years).

If there truly isn't an issue, I feel like there is a bit of try-hardness going on here--it is kinda rubbing it in people's face to have Luck only do hand-offs during media portion. At the same time, I assume the best use of his throwing is during the non-media portion, so if they are really resting him, it would make sense to have his reps be most effective. If really rest, the Colts should have said this would happen a week or so ago to ease everyone freaking out.
