Don't underestimate experience in playoffs. One team was in the NFCCG two years in a row with a super bowl appearance, another has perhaps nobody even winning a playoff game ever. Not a good formula for winning.
I predict a 35-9 blowout by SF.
-
I would be nervous with Bailey. He was torched last year by Smith. But at this point he is probably their best bet if he is healthy.
He is not going to match up with Chargers best receiver this time. Should be more than sufficient especially after a long rest. I could even see him get a pick-6.
-
Danny Woodhead. The guy has been a beast all season for the Chargers.
For the Broncos, I think much depends on Decker and Thomas getting open.
Yes Woodhead is very tough to defend as a runner and pass catcher, and this time Denver is without Von Miller. Don't know how they are going to make up for the pass rush and meanwhile stop the run.
But still think Bailey will be the wildcard this time as he was an all-pro for a reason. When healthy he should still have enough in the tank to make some impact.

After he had the two kids it feels like he has changed. He has realized their is an interesting life after football. I can see him retiring after another two seasons.
-
I mean other than the two QBs.
No not Wes Welker.
I say it will be Champ Bailey. He rested for 15 weeks and now is close to 100%. Although he was embarrassed last year against Ravens, he is now playing the primary nickel back role, and he is playing very well, a reason Broncos defense was playing much better in their last two games.
In week 15 Chargers picked on Broncos' primary nickel back Kayvon Webster for a bunch of crucial 3rd down conversions as well as their 2nd TD. This time Bailey should be able to give them a different look. I feel his impact will determine the result of the game. This is like Bob Sanders as a veteran coming back at the right time for 06 Colts.

I would say for Manning at this point going out and beat San Diego by even say 1 pt for his first playoff win since 2009 season is more difficult than scoring 70 TDs.
-
At home against SD they scored 13 pts until the last drive when SD traded space and score for time. Multiple 3-and-outs without any point scored in 2nd and 3rd qtrs. The running game contributed 18 total yards out of 11 carries.
Against Colts they scored 17 pts before the last qtr and in the same time span Colts had 33 pts. 3-and-out to end 2nd qtr and left too much time for Luck to run out the time and score a TD. Not even a 1st down in the 3rd qtr if I remember correctly.
Against Pats, 24 pts from Pats turnovers as defensive scores and short field in the 1st half. No point in the 3rd and most of the 4th qtr until the last drive in regular time to tie the game. Multiple turnovers and 3-and-outs.
From these stats I see the same Manning-led offense that struggles from time to time against good teams in playoffs, although they were blowing bad teams out like crap.
If it was true..
What did Peyton throw for against SD...280 yards? They didn't struggle..offensively...they didn't have th e ball. They struggled defensively
Denver scored 31 points at Indy and fumbled at the 1yard line...that;s not a struggle on offense.
...Denver rushed for 280 yards at NE..and again scored 31.....That's also not struggling.
600 points....7,000 yards.....five players with 10 TDs....55 passing TDs in a divison with 2 other playoff teams
.....Its hard to find a team that did better during the regular season....which is the standard..
Stats in the playoffs don't count
-
Still this offense struggled against Colts until the desperation time, struggled against Pats all the game, and was almost shut down at home by Bolts, and all three were their remaining AFC opponents. Not a formula for confidence.
-
And so the rivalry begins anew! lol
There will be no rivalry. Brady will retire in 2-3 yrs and AFC will be Luck's to lose even before Brady leaves. Unless Belichick can find a QB to take over.
-
Colts have been up and down all season. That really can't be disputed. I am not saying the Pats are volumes better but their four losses have been by a total of 18 points. They don't beat themselves.
The thing here is Pats do not shoot in their feet especially in playoffs, but the talent level of Pats is a historical low and it is yet to be determined whether the are talented enough to move onto the next round.
In comparison Denver kept shooting in their feet and their three losses have a total of 16 pts deficit to their three opponents who are all alive in the AFC playoff, but I still prefer a team that does not shoot into its own feet in the playoff.
-
I would say Colts are more difficult to prepare against compared with Bolts. Luck is a beast and to be honest TY isn't that much better than any of the other young receivers Colts have outside of DHB. Luck can make any of them a super star if he is in that "mode".
-
It's a nice list but aren't coaches in a better position to judge the intelligence of quarterbacks than corner backs?
Pure intelligence Cutler and Alex Smith may top all QBs, but I think the guy was talking about football intelligence, which inevitably will include some good executions. And I think since CBs are actually playing the QBs head-to-head, they may have more credit than anyone else when talking about QBs.
-
No one can say that for sure. Statistically it's a pretty tough task and it's even harder to predict Super Bowl wins. We'll see one day.
Statistically I doubt Luck or anybody would be even close when they retire. But I do expect a couple of superbowl rings by Luck.

Andrew.
He is more real to me and chill.. Peyton always seems at times to be too elite in stature for many many years....as if everyone around him plays and works for him and not with him.
Exactly my point. That is also why many times defense of special team players lost their focus since they were not playing with heart. Instead they were only doing a job and it was not a huge deal to lose the game and go home.
-
2nd year quarterbacks do not. Jerome Pathon, EG Green ring a bell?
He already made TY Hilton look like a Marvin Harrison sometimes. Just not consistent enough.
-
Oh, ok. That part I agree with.
I just see a lot of times when Manning loses a game it is him standing at the podium taking the responsibilities, and then media and fans point to mistakes made by this guy or that guy, like a failed coverage, a missed field goal, a fumble... For Luck's case it is always a team thing and even when they lose it never reaches individual's level. Never felt Colts was such a strong team except for the super bowl winning season.
-
If only our WRs would stop dropping though.
It may be hard as the most reliable ones are all on IR.
-
You can't compare Manning right now to Luck right now. Manning's obviously going to be better. He's been in the league longer.
I know it is not even close on the pure football part, but emotionally Luck is a better motivator in my opinion. Players show more willingness to fight with him.
-
On the contrary, I love Wayne but I think this will turn Luck into a Peyton, Brady, Rodgers type system where they spread the ball to all the receivers. He was a little too dependent on Reggie at times and all the cornerbacks would know it's his target. I can see Lucks completion rating going up now...
I agree and it is now time to see whether Luck is a good or great QB. Great QBs make ordinary WRs into stars.

Mathis told people after Sunday's game that it was Colts as a team versus Manning and 52 men. It somewhat reminds me of Manning's days with Colts. As great as he was, and all fans love him, every time it felt like he was the only one held accountable when the team lose. More than ever he was that great Mr. Manning that people respect but don't get close with.
While Luck is like a close friend whom players love and are willing to fight extremely hard with. I have seen many times Wayne gave up on Manning's bad throws when he felt he could get hurt, while for Luck's throws he always goes full speed.
-
Would be hilarious to see Denver drop to a wild card and K.C. win the division. if they don't get home field advantage they are DONE in the first round. It sure didn't matter last season when they did have the #1 seed.
It is very likely they would drop to wildcard, but it is not necessarily bad. I guess Manning might prefer the warm Lucas Oil Stadium rather than the single digit temperature at mile high.
-
The Colts are not a 9 win team, even without Reggie. That completely discounts the stellar secondary play thats been the actual reason this Colts team wins games. 10-11 wins is far more likely, especially given the schedule gets far easier now than it has been.
A problem for this year's Colts is they play to the level of their opponents. Without Wayne it will be a little harder to play the type of ball-control games, which may not necessarily a bad thing considering how that worked in the Chargers' game. But still the two road games at Houston and Titans could be critical.
-
If the Colts go 9-7 they may not win the division. I would think 10-11 wins is more likely.
So who else in the division do you think could reach 9-7? Titans is now at 3-4 and has yet to play Colts (twice) and Denver, and their old coach Jeff Fisher should find a way to beat them.

Don't understand why Frazier has a job for such long. He just never has a clue and is drifting upon how Peterson plays.
Predicting the most impactful player in Broncos-Chargers game
in NFL General

Not really but I was really tired of watching Kayvon Webster being burnt badly on NFL replay last night. The kid had no clue.
