  1. Well said Barry.   Too bad too. He had such promise when HC Josh McDaniels drafted him. You're exactly right though. Moreno just sucks at pass blocking. I'm not trying to be cruel here. I am just stating what I see as reality. Can Moreno improve? Sure he can. Frankly, he can't get any worse IMO.

Moreno at least played well enough last season when his name was called, and he blocked much better than Hillman. They run a very similar system as the old Colts but they did not make those stretch runs and instead they run through the middle, which requires RBs to be kinda bigger and stronger. Moreno is OK in this role but his enemy is injury. He also finished 2011 season on IR.

  2. Dumervil played better as a 3-4 OLB in Dennis Allen's 3-4, IMO.

They will cut Dumervil and sign Freeney for lesser in the range of $6-7 mil. a year, IMO.

Freeney and Von Miller together would be like Frathis re-visited, IMO.

Don't think Freeney is a better player than Dumervil, although he did get a lot of attention for doing only one thing at Indy. He is at the stage that he can only play 40% of the snaps.

  3. There is a difference between restructuring which Brady has also done several times, 5 total I believe and taken an undermarket contract which Brady has done twice. He also did in 2005, took 10 mil a year for six years while Manning was being paid between 13-14 as the highest paid QB in the league.

Still though I would be interested in Manning's cap numbers if someone has them.

just google "peyton manning 2013 cap hit", shows that he is 3rd of all QBs at 20M, only lower than Eli and Matt Stafford.

  4. Sanders has a pretty relaxed posture and is leaning on that railing for much of that interview.  At about 0:20 he straightens up for a bit and you can see that he's got a good bit of height on Matthieu, who is clearly on the small side for a DB but isn't tiny to the point where he won't be capable of becoming a decent player.

Maybe I was also deceived by his upperbody muscles. I saw video of his combine drills, unlike most kids at the combine he did not look bothered by pressure at all and was running extremely fluent.

  5. The guy will be a winner in NFL if he is drafted by a winning team with good coaching and veterans, such as Pats or Broncos. He has some attitude but which great conner doesn't? And when college stars like Te'o falter at big moments this guy just performs and exceeds people's expectation like the pressure doesn't affect him.

Watching the video with Leon Sandcastle who is 6'1" this so-called under-sized guy doesn't look smaller either.

  6. You mean the same Cassell that is better than Brady? I had to do it. It was a lay up. :-)

But I agree, this makes the west much more competitive now. Don't sell the Chiefs short either on talent. They have a very stout D and some decent guys on O. Reid will continue to get his type of guys in the next few months. I mean just with Smith and Reid they already have four wins just in their division - Oakland and S.D. They could easily split with the Broncs. They almost beat them once last year.So that would give them 4-5 wins just in the division. They also play a last place schedule.

Can I also say I am really happy for Alex Smith. Gosh, it was brutal to watch what happened to him last year. I will be rooting for him all season to have great success.

The Chiefs have a very talented team and if Reid can get them focused they could do some serious damage and might even have a chance for the wildcard spot. This very team spoiled Packers' hope for a perfect season in 2011. I can see a 49ers' image of turning-around in this team.

But the key to Reid's success is defense - Reid has no idea how to run a defense and the defense failed him in the past several yrs at Eagles ever since his defensive coordinator died. I don't know who he picked for DC at Chiefs but he'd better make a right decision this time.

  7. Not at all.  I just recognize that Rice built his legacy over 21 seasons.  It is doubtful Johnson will play as long as that especially at the level Rice played for the vast majority of it.

Personally, I don't think Rice is the best WR of all time, but I know most NFL fans do.   He just played with the best overall talent around him for most of his tenure.  He benefited from being a member of a great team for a long time.

Nowadays with this kind of hard-hitting defense any WR will be really lucky if he can play for over 10 yrs. Still among all of the modern receivers Calvin is not too bad in this injury department, and he has never played less games per season than his starting QB at Detroit.

  8. I can't remember who my opponent had, but it was a very in-depth league; we used individual defensive players and it was really cool. I had Eli and Andy Dalton as my QBs and they did just about nothing to help me out. Dalton barely even played that last game. For having such dynamic RBs and WRs, it was actually my defensive guys that carried me. Even though they don't get a ton of points, when you have top guys at all the defensive spots it really helps.

IDP is a totally different world - you find the workhorse linebackers who are not always the big names, and you try to find hard-hitting linemen instead of the sack machines. I used to have the Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop and Pat Angerer who won me the league over my opponent's Ray Lewis and Bryan Urlecher.

  9. Great post, well articulated. I was not comparing Rodgers to Favre perse but noting that although Favre did throw the picks he also never took 51 sacks either. There needs to be a balance there between aggression and playing smart. I think Rodgers is too concerned about his QBR. I agree with all your other points. He is similar to Manning in many ways early on in his career.

There must be a reason he was sacked so many times, but if he could be productive under this kind of pressure, he must be pretty good.

  10. Re-read the thread, I don't want to repeat everything I said. Yes, a one hit wonder but also does not deserve the billing as the greatest QB in the game. That is my main thrust. You also failed to mention his 51 sacks. I am not sure if Favre ever had even close to that many in any one season. You know why? The guy didn't care about his QBR. He cared about winning. Favre could fit the football into the space of a bread box and he knew it and he threw it. Sadly, Rodgers can do the same but won't for fear of an incomplete or INT. 51 sacks is absurd for a QB that is supposed to be as cerebral and athletic as him and don't give me his poor Oline. I saw him hold the ball and hold the ball for an eternity and instead of just chucking it away, he took the sack. I would imagine his Oline feels the same about him as his receivers...Not to mention when his team is down it tends to stay down. He is a great front runner but does not seem to have the will Favre did to lead his team back when trailing big...

Comparing Rodgers with Favre most people will take Rodgers with no hesitation, and I would too. Why do you have to throw the ball into that bread box when you could easily throw to a wide open receiver? Yes Favre had his huge come backs but you also need to check how many times his unnecessary INTs put his team into the situation. There is a reason Favre couldn't take the same championship caliber team to the SB and ended his Packers career with an INT while Rodgers won the SB with many starters sidelined in only 2 yrs.

To me Rodgers is similar to Peyton Manning in his early career: Smart and unstoppable when in his game, but could be turned off completely by an experienced defense. He obviously has issues when his receivers are knocked out of the designed routes, which is the same as Manning, and he just cannot beat Giants, as Manning took a lot of time figuring out the old Pats. In this case I agree with you Rodgers is not even close to being the best of all time, which is a role many commentators are trying to put him into.

  11. Yeah, I wanted to get Rodgers but he was taken 4th so I improvised. I ended up taking Doug Martin in a later round and he sure helped me late in the season. These RBs are such a crapshoot sometimes. A couple years ago, everyone was taking Peterson #1 overall. I distinctly remember saying it won't be Peterson that scores the most RB points, it'll be someone random like Jamaal Charles, and everyone laughed at me. Well Jamaal Charles was #2 and Arian Foster came literally out of nowhere and had the most.

I got to the SB too and lost, but it was my first year so I was pretty stoked to be there.

So you had Peterson and Martin and Calvin Johnson and still lost in the final? Well your opponent might being have sth. like Marshawn Lynch, Ray Rice and Dez Bryant I guess. Anyway you must be enjoying the whole yr of FFL by having the top 2 runners and #1 receiver.

But Calvin's 2012 fantasy season probably couldn't be called a success since he only outscored the #10 WR for about 40pts, while that difference was about 100pts in 2011. Peterson outscored the #10 RB about 100pts as well in 2012. So if the owner has only Calvin and misses on his RBs, he/she could easily miss the playoff.
