  1. Why the Bears D? Why not Seattle's? They had a better defense.

Why Colts O? Seattle's O avg >3 pts/game than Colts O in 2012. If Seattle's team made it to the divisional round, with Colts O it may not pass the wildcard round, which is the same as the actual Colts team.

  2. They've had the talent in place longer than the past two years. They were being chosen as playoff and perhaps Super Bowl favorites since before last year. It seems all they needed was the right spark...enter Jim Harbaugh.

Even in 09 I remember it took Colts' Joe Addai's passing TD to Wayne to pull out a close win. The team was already very talented and just needed a good coach at the time.

  3. this just tells me alex smith isn't stupid. he behaving the way he needs to behave to maximize his chances at another big contract & starting position

except in the division round last season when he beat drew brees at his own game  :highfive2:

The guys has one of the historically highest Wonderlic scores in NFL QBs, no wonder he is smart~~~

He had a perfect game in the division round but unfortunately couldn't convert more than 1 3rd downs in the NFCCG.

  4. One thing I will say about Manning, a lot of his long bombs and stuff are beautiful.  Even though he may not have a lot of heat on them anymore from the surgery, he puts such an incredible arch on his long throws, it just drops down beautifully right in front of the receiver, often times way in the back of the endzone where the defender can't even get it.  He has great touch on his balls (giggity)

He used to be able to do this consistently before his neck injury but did not have the OL to give him >2secs in Indy. Now he has the OL and WRs so he can do this from time to time but the consistency is no longer great due to the nerve damage. One great throw to tight spot could be followed by a horrible wobbling INT.

  5. Gosh our future is bright if we already have a top 3 of all time QB. :cheer2:

But, here is what still astounds me about the AFC playoffs.....The team who has limited the Ravens to the least amount of points so far this postseason is the Colts. :woah:  :dancing:

I'm not sure it is limiting but instead it is "dont need more pts to beat the Colts who couldn't get TDs".

They obviously needed that many pts to beat Manning, and they didn't feel safe until leading by >2 scores over Brady, but dealing with Colts they felt pretty comfortable.

  6. PS arm strength has little to do in cold weather...yes the air is more dense and the ball won't fly as far but the only issue I have seen with Manning in cold weather has been that his grip effects him more as he has more passes flutter....but really what it comes down to is that in those cold weather games he has gone up against New England with their defense in their prime (a great defense) and Baltimore another great defense that played a very deep cover two and their corners were all over his receivers and they couldn't get free. We need to look at all the reasons why a team lost and not at one player. Yes Peyton made 1 very very bad pass late in OT. However he made tons of good to great ones to put them in position to win. His defense did NOTHING to help him. Brady led several several good drives but his offense time and again dropped critical 3rd down plays. Neither loss was a result of age or deteriating skills imo.

I dont think the losses were directly resulted from the aging of the QBs but for Peyton I think his consistency is not as good as it used to be which cost him some crucial plays, including missing the wide open Thomas going toward the end of the 1st half which resulted in a missed FG and then a Ravens TD, as well as the INT in OT. Not sure it is only age but his nerve has not recovered fully which could be huge problem in cold weather. For Brady you may notice his big plays in the past 2-3 seasons are mostly from YAC of his illusive receivers and TEs, while earlier than 09 his deep pass was fantastic. They added Lyold to fill the gap of Randy Moss but there is nothing happening. Not sure it's his arm strength or the lack of WR talent but the production is not even close.

  7. I was reading a good analysis of the Pats-Ravens game last night.

Baltimore played something like four snaps, for the entire game, in their base D. They played the vast majority of the game in their nickle package, essentially daring the Patriots to run the ball at them.

They tried, to an extent, but could not get it rolling. The writer for the Boston Globe (Greg Bedard) said that both Hernandez and Hoo-man (Gronk's backup) continuously got beaten badly by defenders. It sounds like the blocking just wasn't there in the run game. Certain teams (like the Giants and Ravens) will do that to you and can stop the run with minimal personnel.

Sounds like they missed Gronk as much as a blocker as they did a receiver. They averaged something like 4.9 YPC with him in the lineup, and just over 3 YPC without him.

I personally am also not entirely sold on Stevan Ridley just yet. He still has issues hanging onto the ball (though I can't fault him for that fumble, since Pollard really clocked him) but I don't see consistency out of him.

The best Patriots TEAM, in my opinion, was the Corey Dillon year (1600+ yards in 2004). No small coincidence, I think, that was the best run game Brady's had in his career.

Pretty much the Ravens played with the same strategy in the Denvers game as well. Their run defense has been much better since the return of Ray Lewis and this is the key to their success so far. But still the goals for both the Pats and Broncos running games is to be servicable enough such that they can keep the opposing defense honest and therefore set up the passing games. They just cannot run the football to win games.

The early Pats teams were actually very similar to this yrs Ravens team - Based on run and good defense, QB plays to keep the defense honest and set up other things. Since Brady started to post Manning-like numbers the team never won SBs.

  8. I also find it interesting the edge the NFC has had. The Broncos struggled vs. the one playoff team in the NFC they played. The Patriots went 1-3 vs. the NFC West.

Interestingly enough the Colts went 2-0 vs. the NFC playoff teams they faced.

After the domination of AFC for almost a whole decade till 2006, it is natural for the NFC to bounce back with better talents from the draft. Even around 2009 playing the NFC west was like a cake-walk but now it is such a tough division. Things just go back and forth under this system and it is fun for all teams' fans to have hope for the big one.

  9. That caught me off guard too. I thought it was just for cold weather.

The whole thing with Manning/Brady has often been their cerebral approach to the game and it is effective. Both will help you win a ton of games. But, can they carry you in the playoffs now vs. the better teams? I am not so sure.......time will tell.

My advice: run the ball. Run it a lot. But, I get the feeling neither wants to do that enough. They still want to pass most of the time.

Both Manning and Brady are going downhill and the trend will continue in the next few yrs. But their wont be a drastic drop until at least 2 yrs later I assume.

This is the nature of the sports. Younger generation like Luck and Russel Wilson will take over very soon.

Running the ball could really work for old QBs and that is why I think Manning should join the 49ers. But to let a QB running a pass-based system for almost all his career make such a huge change toward the end of the career might be too much. Also as far as both of them have got SB rings, the way they win the SB might mean even more than just winning it one more time.

  10. Alex Smith was a game manager. Stats do not tell the story. Harbaugh limited him to do just enough to win games for them. If you go back to last season, look at all the field goals, look at how those games were basically decided by 1 TD and a bunch of field goals. Their offense did not roll and post points with him like they are with Kaepernick now.

Agree completely. He plays not to lose games for them but once in a while he will be asked to make plays, like the Ravens game and the AFCCG last season, he just cannot do it. Converting only 1 3rd down in the AFCCG pretty much lost him the job.

  11. I do feel his consistency has suffered in the mid-range throws which he used to thrive. His long-range looked improved since He very rarely completed 40+ passes in his last 2 seasons with Colts but now he dares to try and manages to complete more than 1 per game avg to Thomas.

Dont understand why he needs to wear the glove even in nice weather. Maybe his grab is still bad due to nerve damage?

  12. Luck will be fine. It was his first season, made some mistakes but also some great plays. He will work hard the next few months on his weaknesses and I expect some major improvements + we hopefully get more talent on the Offensive Line + he will get an OC he already worked with. So can we just skip the SB and start the new season right now?

Pretty sure fans of another 29 teams are thinking about the same

  13. To bad we lost Tim jennings(who would have ever known he become a pro bowl player). Vontae still has a lot to prove in my mind.

Tim Jennings was made good by his Bears teammates. It was a far stronger defense running the similar cover-2 scheme as Colts but with much better talent level and execution.

Remember the 09 Broncos game Jennings was asked to cover Brondon Marshall and the later just broke the NFL single game reception record? Marshall was almost moving freely with Jennings hanging on his back. Everybody asked Jennings to be cut at the time and he did get cut after being burnt in the Superbowl loss.

  14. Looking at Luck's conmpletion % in college, he started with a 56.3% as a freshman but finished two seasons higher than 70%. I would not doubt the guy's decision-making and he is definitely intellegent. Also he can definitely improve after being more familar with his team and studying film.

For the low % in his rookie yr with Indy, I see this as a problem of offensive scheme. The OL is terrible and other positions a lacking talent. The only strength of the team, other than Luck, is a receiving corp with an experenced posession WR in Wayne and a couple of speedy young guys. Therefore they had to use the strength to an extreme by calling more deep passes which automatically reduced his completion %.

  15. Don't you think that just maybe he was told to try to get Watt that TD ? Do you think if this were a "real" game that Andrew Luck just might have decided to go somewhere else with that pass. They obviousley spent a lot of time in practice on that nonsense and must be it was a "high priority" to get Watt a TD. Just my opinion

Must be commanded by Manning :D

  16. He will be a big name free agent next year that goes to a team and totally blows it. He will get stuck on a bad team that does nothing, bad offense, and then everyone will finally be saying Harbaugh got it right.

I don't see him going to the Jets either. They love Sanchez.....No I am not joking, they gave him a huge contract before the season started. They would rather trade their best player Revis than cutting Mr. interception.

Feel that Jets only care about attracting media attention instead of winning games.
