  1. If Polian and Caldwell are still there next season, i will lose faith in Colts ownership.

Irrespective of players situation, they both need to go.

Its highly disrespectful for the fan who follow this team if they arent let go.

Its high time, Irsay listens to fans voice and make sensible decisions.

The day Irsay listens to the fans is the day he needs to go. The fans know nothing, they have no way to be able to form a legit view given they have zero access to all the information. Fans job is to watch and cheer or boo, that is it.

  2. To all the Caldwell apologists: Can you give me the name of a coach who has gotten less out of the talent he has available this season?

Exactly how is it the coaches job to catch passes, block people and such? My issue with Caldwell is going to long with Painter, but outside of that, this team's inability to win lays at the feet of the players, not the coachs.

  3. I want the coaching staff to actually make adjustments that fit our current personnel. You know, what all other NFL staffs attempt to do on a weekly basis. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend? Why is this not what you want them to do? You realize, not adjusting has turned the Colts into a laughing stock, right? Do you really think that running the same offense and defense they would with Peyton is what they should be doing without him? If so, then I'm not even sure what to say in response...

Indeed...and herein the coaching staffs' ability/willingness to do this lies 0 wins and counting. I'll never understand what I've seen on the field this year. I was expecting 3-6 wins, so expectations were low but I had enough confidence in JC to make adjustments that would allow us to at least be a middle/late top 10 pick in the draft. Not changing in the face of such adversity is just plain irresponsible, short-sided, and inexplicable, particularly when everyone knew that no one else besides PM could thrive under the offensive/defensive schemes.

You want them to adjust? How? You have built an offense to play one way. You can not cram a square peg into a round hole no matter how hard you try. Exactly what do you want them to do? You want change, so what kind of change? run the ball more? Our offense isn't built to run the ball that much. Change pass routes? What does it matter if your QB can't get them the ball? Play a new style of defense? Sure but if you don't have the talent to do it, what is the point. The Colts drafted specific players to play one way. Now you expect them to just change things up like that? NFL teams just can't change like that. Denver is winning because of schedule and defense, not their offense.

  4. Here's the kicker: Caldwell was not a good college coach, not a good QB coach, and not a good head coach. He has failed on every spectrum. At least Wade Phillips found success with something! Caldwell's record at Wake Forest was poor (26-63), he didn't contribute to Peyton's overall capabilities (Tom Moore did that) and yet now we're asking him to head coach! The only reason Caldwell found success last season is because of Peyton Manning. Now with Manning injured, this was Caldwell's chance to step up. He not only didn't step up, he fell on his face.

The Colts need to hire Phillips, Gruden, Fisher, or someone else with legitimate NFL head coaching experience.

    1. How many winning coaches have their been at Wake?

    2. HOw do you know how successful or unsuccessful he was as the QB coach

  5. this has to be the worst post I've ever read since joining the forums

Whats the point of the Super Bowl then? Great teams are known for winning the super bowl. Great franchises are the ones that have 4 5 or 6 Super Bowls(Im aware the Steelers are the only one in the '6' category)

When I think of great teams of this decade I think of the Patriots and Steelers. Easiest the two best based off not only what they have done in the regular season but what they did in the post season. They showed consistency and as I type this are still Super Bowl contenders. While the Colts have been great in the regular season they are too inconsistent in the post season. Whether it be poor play on Mannings part, injuries, luck etc. they have trouble getting it done.

It baffles me a team that can win 10,11,12,13 or 14 games in a row in the regular season have trouble putting together a 3 or 4 game run in the post season.

2005 is a great example, the team was playing great on both sides of the ball yet struggled against the Steelers. If Vanderjagt didn't shank that kick the Colts would have played the Broncos in the AFCCG. Manning has torched the Broncos in his career and that is the one year I feel like the Colts really let it get away. . 2005. Ifs and buts dont work but that is the one year that still bugs me.

Exaclty, the game came down to a kicker. Were the Steelers a better team or did they just get lucky? If the Colts and Steelers say play a best of 5 over 5 weeks who wins that series? To many things can happen in a 1 game playoff.

  6. As the question as to whom is, should be or will be the head coach of the Colts next year, I find it interesting how someone like the present DC of the Texans Wade Phillips is great as a DC but can't cut it as a head coach. Here is a man whose father was a great coach and is in his own right a great DC, yet can't get it done as a HC.

Now we see two more HC get fired today who as coordinators were considered very good. What is it in being the HC that these very good coordinators can't seem to take with them as HC and how does that impact on "whom" the Colts should look at as a possible replacement for Caldwell.

  7. Polian hasn't made a coaching decision here in awhile (Dungy was a big name, but he was mostly Irsay's choice; Caldwell was Dungy's appointee, so neither of those are really Polian's picks). Mora was a bit of a name. I don't know that we can say he's NOT a big name guy. That seems like supposition at best.

Even still, like I said, I would think both teams would be doing their due diligence and hiring the best fit for them, whether that's a well-known guy, an assistant, a college coach, whatever. Seems odd to suggest that they won't consider hiring any assistants because the coaches they just fired were assistants. I doubt that's how any NFL team makes head coach decisions.

big name coaches carry a certain flair and history with them.

  8. It's not that Peyton should have more Super Bowls but the team as a whole should have more. It just doesn't make sense to dominate the regular season and the division for 10 plus years and make it to only 2 Super Bowls. Call me a spoiled fan or what have you but it just doesn't make sense. With 10 years of domination, not just making the playoffs, you would expect more Super Bowl appearances. The Atlanta Braves dominated the 90s winning 14 consecutive division titles, 4 trips to the World Series, but on 1 World Series win. As a Braves fan, this doesn't make sense to me either.

Especially in football more then baseball, the playoffs are a 1 game crap shoot, anything can happe. that is why I believe a true greatness of a team is better seen in what they do during the regular season over the post season.

  9. (another) poor game which we should look past

We got beat by a better team. Lets not forget, we have gone to Baltimore before and not scored a TD for an entire game with our "A" guys playing. Beathing Balitmore at home with your A boys is tough, near impossible with your B and C boys. I was impressed how the D steped up in the second half, our offense never had a chance.

  10. Bill Polian obviously knew the level of depth (or lack of) that he had on the Colts roster that can hang with the best of the NFL. Not much beyond a set of healthy 25 led by #18.

A doubt there are many teams that if they lose "key" players and have to rely on depth will do very well. Look at chicago and philly, but have great star players but when the backups are asked to play considerable time you see they don't perform well.

Think Bears fans are happy with their backup QB?

  11. This is probably a pipe dream, but I would hope that Bill Polian and Jim Irsay would consider any and every coach that's available and has any semblance of success on his record. That includes Jeff Fisher, a guy I seriously hope we don't hire because I don't think he's that good, but due diligence requires you consider all the angles. I'd like to see them reach to every corner of the country, on every major level of the sport, and know that they hired the guy that suited the team best, not see them avoid certain "personalities" because there could be some strife there.

That said, I don't understand why you've decided that the only coaches the Chiefs and Dolphins will be considering are the big name coaches whose names get thrown out there for every vacancy. I would assume that the Chiefs and Dolphins would do the same thing I just said I hope the Colts do. There's also the issue of the Jaguars, and whatever other vacancies there might be by the end of the season (hot seat candidates include Leslie Frazier, Steve Spagnuolo, Andy Reid, Mike Shanahan). There might be a tangible benefit to getting the jump on other teams. That's got to be part of the reason teams are getting rid of coaches now.

both Dolphins and Chiefs tried the "assistant" route and well it did not go very well. Both are HUGE NFL markets who will want big names to get things turned around. Polian isn't really a big name guy, so if Caldwell does go, I see him looking for either someone already on staff to take over of look for a mid level guy who has been a cordinator...

  12. Yes Peyton is going to go down as a top 5 QB or all time, but as we look throughout the history of the NFL, just because you are great or one of the greatest that does not equal out to title game championships or SB appearances. So given this is a team sport, which during most of Peyton's time has been under a salary cap, I am interested to know why people think the Colts/Peyton should have more the 2 trips to the big game during Peyton's career. I mean lets be honost, Peyton has been a Colt I believe since 1999. Well how many QB's make it to the SB in their first couple of seasons in the NFL unless they get lucky like Ben did and get drafted by a pretty decent team. So take away the first couple of seasons for Peyton and you have what like maybe 10 years, of which the colts went twice.

I think some times people's expectations get higher then can be expected, I think we should look back on the past 10 years and be proud how the team and Peyton did.

  13. You determine to me how bad a franchise is by evaluting it based off all of it's starters playing. When the Bucs lost all those games to start the time they were bad talent wise. When Detroit a few seasons back went 0-16 if you looked at their talent from top to bottom they were average at best. Now look at the Colts, if all of your roster was 100% healthy, where would they be record wise? Now yes health is part of any team, but for me you have to evaluate the team off of whom they have and how they would be at 100%.

  14. With KC and Miami firing their head coaches, it occurred to me that now there are going to be at least three teams needing a head coach. Assuming that Caldwell has no future with the Colts, and I pray to God that he doesn't, then wouldn't it make sense to start pursuing a replacement now rather than later? With three other teams in competition for a few quality individuals out there and available, I would hope that we don't miss out because we waited until it was too late.

What do you guys think? Is this a valid concern or not? Food for thought at any rate....

Simple, the odds of Caldwell being replaced might be 50/50 at best, and second should he be replaced, no one that either Miami or KC would be looking at would ever be considered by the Colts.

  15. huge difference between fans applauding Fox for adjusting his gamplean to suit Tebows strengths, and Colts fans complaining about a team being built around 18... Fox made mid-season adjustments to suit his offense... Colts knew at beginning of the season 18 would be out, where are the adjustments???

what adjustments do you want them to make? Our offense is set up to do 1 thing and 1 thing only. You are stuck with it and unless you have the talent of Peyton to operate it, you get what we have. Exactly what or how could they have changed it?

  16. On NBC last night the topic of the Packers going 16-0 came up and Tony still believes going 16-0 in the regular season is not a big deal and said he would begin sitting starters. Rodney Harrison agreeded that in upcoming games for the Packers he would start some but as the games got gonig he would pull some starters. It will be interesting to see what the Packer do.
