Am I the only one who is not liking what I am seeing so far with Ballard's free agent signings?

He has signed 2 players who I guess could be considered starters in Simon and Sheard, and even they are not what I would call blue chippers by any stretch.

Other than that, he seems to be getting rid of the Colt players who were here already and just replacing them with "guys".  And I am starting to get the impression he doesn't really have any rhyme or reason to his signings.  It is almost as if he is signing them just because they weren't Colts.

As soon as he signed that punter a little part of me went "uh oh".  I know he is just a punter but to me, it seems so much better to draft one then sign a guy like that.

And that was just the beginning.  Al Woods?  Mingo?  Schwenke?  Hunt?  And while their contracts are not large, they are still for $5 million or so and it is starting to eat away at our cap space and I cannot say we are any better off today then we were a month ago.

I just get the feeling that he really doesn't know what they heck he is doing, and is making changes just for the sake of changes.

    Thoughts?

I agree.. haven't seen anything to really help the defense improve.. some say depth.. but depth can come from draft and UDFA's.. this defense has no difference makers still.  I doubt even a 1st round draft pick will fill that role immediately.   Looks like another long season  so far and another year off Lucy's career....

  2. We have to field a team pretty soon....  We are clearing roster spots and money, certainly we don't expect to fill them all with rookies and UDFA.  We don't need lots of cap space for our picks, we only have 8 total I believe with the Allen 6th round give back and one compensatory.  If we go only for rookies and UDFA it we need to call it a rebuilding year and risk waste another year of Luck's career.  Picking up ST and roster fillers like Mingo hasn't changed anything yet...plus we will likely have to pick up a kicker, Locke hasn't done both punting and kick offs.  Hope they have a plan to compete, the rest of the AFC South is trying ...and having some successes.  We still have no difference makers on defense and only 1 on offense.  Rookies and all the cap space in the world doesn't fix that.

They were right but not by much, the Division could've went either way actually, losing to Houston killed us.

Twice to Texans (which they said were better than us at the beginning), plus the Lions and Jags.....  all wasted games and poor coaching... bad decisions

  4. Unfortunately, the talking heads at ESPN and their low view of the Colts has been proven to be accurate these last 2 years.  I know I was thinking they were uninformed and just crazy when many of them predicted the Colts would finish 3rd at best.....  I hate it when they are right..

Since they were not fired yesterday they are staying bet on it.

Agree... the longer he waits the further behind he gets in looking for a new coach.  all the big names already have several teams requesting permission to discuss their openings.  no news likely means they are staying put...

Remind me the definition of "Insanity" again.  Something about continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results?  I watched the Lions, Texans, Jags games and while i expected different results... they ended up the same.

  6. One of the bigger differences I noticed this week was the offensive game planning.  We stuck by the running game, and didn't quit on it early.  also, we started with quick, short passes to the TE's on slant routes.  There was no time for the rush to get to Luck. This along with the running game slowed the front of Vikings enough that Luck could take a few down field shots; the run fake held the LB's, the front was slowed to give the OL  the chance to give Luck a pocket and the WR's used their speed to get free.  All in all a game plan we should have been using all year.  Not just now when we start 3 rookies, have a new RG and are trying to help the OL out.

    Chud finally came thru......
