2013 Free Agency

Hey, everyone it's coltsguy511 and I'm back with post #2. Todays topic is "2013 Free Agency". I will be going over the players that are available and those we could make a play for.

Next years free agency is heavy on WR's and OT's. The top players at WR are Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings, Dwayne Bowe, Desean Jackson, and Steve Smith (STL one). I think that Greg Jennings and Dwayne Bowe are the only ones who will be resigned. So that leaves Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, Desean Jackson. Take out Desean Jackson, because we have T.Y. Hilton. So that leaves Steve Smith and Mike Wallace. I think that Mike Wallace would be the most likely to sign with us because a.) Bruce Arians and b.) we have the cap space. I think that he could be a good replacement for Reggie Wayne when he retires.

Now on to OT's. The top OT's available are Ryan Clady, Jake Long, Jeff Otah, Sebastian Vollmer, and Jermon Bushrod. Out of those players Vollmer, Clady, and Bushrod look to be resigned. That leaves Otah and Long. Long is clearly the superior of the two, which means the more expensive of the two. I think that Long is worth it though. He could be that franchise LT that could protect Luck for years to come. So If we have the cap space and a reasonable price, I say sign him.

There are many RB's available this year, but only one that I feel we should take a look at, Matt Forte. The Bears have repeatedly disrespected him in their contract dispute, they signed Michael Bush while they were negotiating and then Bush threw the opening pitch at a Cubs game, obviously showing Chicago welcoming him as a Bear. He is a great receiver out of the backfield. He has proven that he can run without the best line and is a great fit for us. If Grigson can sign him, be excited for next year.

Now on to defense. There is only one lineman that I feel we should look at, and that is Calais Campbell. He is a great run defender and a very good pass rusher. We would bring him in as a 3-4 DE. If we could manage to get him for the right price, we could have a very good run defense. UPDATE: Campbell has been re-signed by the Cardinals on a five year deal.

I personally don't think that there are many good FA LB's this year. I think that we can address that need in the draft. While the draft class is LOADED with Corners for next year, there aren't many in Free Agency that we should consider picking up. I know Corner is a major need for us, so I think that we should grab at least one player. Tracy Porter is the only CB that I think we should pick up. He could vastly improve our secondary and won't be overly expensive. Last but not Least, Safeties. Like the Corners, there is only one player that I think we should sign, Jairus Byrd. He is a ball-hawking safety and can hit. If we could sign him to pair up with Bethea, we would have one of the best safety duos in the league.

If we can't sign a LB or a Corner, I think that we could try this deal in the draft (This only works if we have a top five to ten pick). We should draft CB David Amerson, a 6-3 ball-hawking corner who had 13 picks last year, and then trade our 2nd round pick, our 3rd or 4th round pick, and a 2014 6th round pick, to get into the top 15 where we pick............. Manti Te'o from Notre Dame. Tell me what you think in the comments below.

I know that this whole article is premature, but that's what it's supposed be. For all we know, our weaknesses could be our strengths at the end of the year. It's always fun to speculate and try to look into the future. But thats the thing, it's The Future and we never know what's going to happen.

I am not great at looking ahead a year. I am better at what is immediately at hand. However, this is a well written piece so I need to give my new friend a thumbs up!!

At WR I would love a Mike Wallace or a Dwayne Bowe....and I know we will have the money to go get them barring unforseen injuries.

I like Tracy Porter.....I like Jake Long....and as I said I am a huge Te'o fan.

That said I am interested in seeing the unknowns on our own roster and watching our new coaching staff make the Colts the surprising team in the league. Chuck Pagano had a great interview today on ESPN. He once again said everyone has "rolled up their sleeves" from top to bottom. The future is now, and I think we are more talented than some think. Let roll Colts!!!

Well I do agree with Forte, he is a beast when healthy and yes if we can sign him for the right price I'd take him any day. I would hold off on a wide out tell 2014, I feel luck and company will be able to put up a few points Im more worried about the running game. I also like Jake Long, but if we go after Long I would'nt be expecting the colts to take anyone else on Offense. I think we need to address holes on the D, starting with CB,ILB,NT,DE. Now we could use two CBs but would be just fine with one , my question is will Revis be a free agent next year? For the saftie position well it depends on how Zib looks this season, if he looks good Ill pass up on a SS in 2013. I do feel we need a ILB next to Agerer, not a fan of conner. Feel we are on the same page as for getting that in the draft with Te'o and yes I would trade up just to get him, and if their is a guy at NT or DE I would trade up back into the first round to take him aswell but the focus next year needs to be and will be on the defensive side of the ball. The one thing Pagano said that I do beleive is we will be a complete team and that means all our money will no longer be tied up only on the offensive side of the ball. We have a QB that will impress his first year and he has weapons and rookies that will shock a lot of poeple, but the defense is were we need to get better we only have four really good players Freeney,Mathis, Angerer and Bethea. Lets not fall back into the same trap of putting it all on Luck as we did with Manning we need a defense and next year is the time to fine tune our roster. Most important is this year to evaluate the talent currently on the roster than decide what direction we will go in free agency...PS no no no on Tracy Porter!!!
