Khaled Holmes starting center?

Posted by Mighty_Pitbull, 27 April 2014 · 2190 views

I don't know why people are so against Khaled Holmes being our starting center. I watched 4 of his college game tapes the Utah, Georgia Tech, Oregon, and Notre Dame. I really liked what I saw. He makes the line calls, good run and pass blocker, and he finishes all of his blocks but he does have some weaknesses, the biggest one I noticed was that he tends to over extend sometimes, and plus he handled Domata Peko really well when came in for Samson Satele in the Cincinnati game. But overall I really like him and I think he will be a solid center for us this season.

Glad you took a good look at him.
He has put on about 20 lbs, and should be much more prepared for the Pro game than he would have been as a Rookie.
Please stay healthy and kick tail.

Yep, I like him too.  We already spent a pick on him last season...  NOT every rookie is great...  If we draft another lineman this season, they also probably won't be great right away either...  so let's give our guy a chance here.  With the draft I say we take DeAnthony Thomas, or Latimer from IU...  either one of those guys could be a firecracker with T.Y. on the same side or opposite side. If we could get either one of those guys, and spend ALL the rest of the picks on Defense i'd be happy.  Give Andrew all the weapons he can handle... seriously.

We don't need another receiver.  We have the perfect lineup right now.  Experience, talent and depth.  Possession (Wayne) Speed (TY) Beast (Nicks) and huge upside still on Da'Rick and Brazille both.  Whalen will likely fill in for any injuries before the season ends (unless someone snaps him up).

I think they may look at Ward from North Ill if he's around or Yankey from Stanford on the line who could really help us at all 3 inside positions.  Either of those guys would be huge in the bottom of the second.

By the way, I thought Holmes looked pretty mediocre in his "highlight" reel.  That was truly the best of his career's work?

Adam Caplan of ESPN.com names a few more, tweeting that Ward also visited the Colts,

No it's not here's a few game highlights for you to watch.

he was playing on a bad ankle in this game

We simply don't know enough about Holmes' play at the NFL level yet, I'm going to trust the coaches who have seen what he can do a lot more than anyone on this board. If they feel he's good enough to start - ok - that's good. But I still hope we draft a quality interior O-lineman this week.

holmes also fumbles and miscues as well.

He doesn't have to be very good to represent a significant improvement over Satele...

IMO Holmes has more then enough playing experience against top quality competition. He was a 4 year starter in high school while attending Mater Dei(spell?) with Matt Barkley. That IS A TOP FLIGHT FOOTBALL SCHOOL which plays the best football schools in California and the nation. Then he gets a scholarship to USC!!!!!! LET'S NOT PRETEND THAT PLAYING COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IS SOME SMALL FEAT!!!!! There are thousands of student athletes who have their dreams crushed after high school, because the simple fact is IT TAKES A LOT to continue playing into the next level... Khaled is accomplished at center based on his resume, game experience, and film. He came to USC and won the starting job his freshman season and never lost it(in spite of the talent waiting in the wings like Martin in whom was ranked as the top center in this years 2014 DRAFT class)...common sense tells us Indianapolis knew EXACTLY WHO THEY HAVE after cutting ties with Satele. Holmes will be a MAJOR UPGRADE at Center, as the entire line play should benefit and be much improved. Mewhort has a legitimate chance to start at LG as a rookie and should pair nicely with Holmes to create big running LANES for our stable of running backs , as well maintain a clean pocket for Andrew Luck. Holmes played against the Top nose tackles while at USC as the above videos highlight(small sample size) and let's not think for one second Coach Pagano and Ryan Grigson haven't done EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER to assure the franchise's top priority is not lying on his back after taking unnecessary hits ANYMORE!!!! Pagano Is A Very Good Coach...and Grigson IS DOING A FANTASTIC JOB ------Post Peyton...GoHorse
