  1. Yeah, I thought people would feel that way about Omenihu at this point.  There have been a few of the well-known draftniks that have put him up in the 1st, or at least discussed it as a possibility...

    Like this one:

Charles Omenihu is an absolute bull of a defensive lineman who raised his draft stock tremendously at this year's Senior Bowl. Named the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and first-team All-Big 12 by the AP and coaches, Charles tallied 9.5 sacks this past season and made 18 tackles for loss. One-on-one, Omenihu is a nightmare for any offensive lineman to deal with because of his long arms, which are violent and always active.

Omenihu has an electric first step and enough position versatility to play edge, but also kick inside if need be, as he rushed from a 3-technique position all the way out to a Wide-9 for Texas, and was successful at every spot. Charles leverages his hips and holds a firm edge, while natural strength enables him to squeeze gaps and find the football when defending against the run. If he impresses at the Combine, there is a glimmer of a chance Omenihu sneaks into RD1 consideration so the Panthers taking him at 47th overall could end up being a hell of a steal!  - Cody Lachney, Panthers Analyst

    Or this one:

The first of two sleepers to sneak into Round 1, Omenihu is probably more likely to rise into the Round 2 range, but for kicks lets say he has a shot at the top 32. He should, given the fact he has better edge pass rush tools than Sweat while being just as good against the run, but it doesn’t sound like the NFL sees it that way just yet. A strong Combine on top of being a standout in Mobile could do wonders for Omenihu. - John Ledyard

  2. Decided to go veteran in the secondary to provide some leadership for our youngsters in the area.

Admittedly, I populate my mocks at this point in the year with risers who I’m projecting further rises...so, this’ll seem crappy to many...

  3. It’s another lackluster OT group on day 2...or at least that’s what a preliminary assessment tells me.  So I doubt we address it that early.  As a need, I wouldn’t object to a Day 2 guy, though.  As it is, I expect us to add a developmental day 3 OT to the current cast (Castonzo, Smith, Clark, Hague, Garcia), and reassess after next season.  You’ll always have unresolved succession issues...

  4. Woohoo!  we’re keeping the band together, and kind of a bargain.  I’d try to keep Desir before FA, then I’m so on the fence on Geathers.  He’s the only leader in the secondary, but his injury past is very poor.  I’d like to bring him back, most likely on a one-year prove-it, due to health.  But that certainly means letting him test FA...

  5. With a much lesser QB class in the draft, I definitely see not-untalented teams like Jax and Miami exploring the Veteran QB option (like Denver and Washington did unsuccessfully last year).  It’s hard to predict, though.  Foles, Flacco, and Brissett would all be available for the right price, but who’s to say what team would want which, what price they’d pay, or at what point they’d say, “Screw it!”, and take a shot in the draft?

  6. Hey, I think there are really good reasons that involve Xes and Oes to believe that the Colts are gonna win this game.  However, nothing is predetermined, and it could easily go the other way.  It’s a really good team we’re going up against, even if they’re not as impressive as earlier in the season.  I’m just gonna watch and try to enjoy this ultimately unexpected playoff run.  I’m already happy with this year’s results...

  7. One article I read said that Mahomes looked jittery at the beginning of his nationally televised games.  While that could lead to an early lead for the Colts, it highlights the fact that Mahomes is REALLY inexperienced, and we don’t know how he’ll perform in his first really big game.  Best case scenario for the Chiefs is that he looks like he has all year long.  But there’s a chance we see something very diminished, as he struggles to take on the hope of their starving fan base...

  8. Fans (particularly the sports bar * types) love to speak of these games as preordained.  Hearing that the Colts’ offense can’t keep up with that of the Chiefs makes me wonder: 1) wouldn’t chief fans have said that of the Seahawks, the Ravens, or the Broncos (twice), who all finished within one score of KC?  And, 2) if KC’s so unbeatable, why are they playing 50/50 ball over the last six weeks?

  9. Some angles looked to me like he lost control before the goal like, and some angles after.  Good non- reversal...but, it shouldn’t have been reversed if called a Touchback, either...

  10. Yeah, I think Good is a good player who has trouble staying on the field.  Guys like that can really help a team, but you can’t use them as a primary building blocks.  It so happens that we have a pretty good core OL group now, with two decent back-up OTs.  So there’s no real role for him.  Wish him the best, and I’m sorry it soured with what seems like some sort of personality conflict with Googs...

He's not saving his money to re-sign the important ones. He's going to have plenty of money to sign those guys over the next several years. He's not saving his money at all. He just didn't need to spend it.

Ballard has talked in depth about how you reward your own players. That's how culture is built. Rewarding your guys that performed. Hunt has performed. What message does that send if Ballard lets him walk because he's too cheap for a modest and reasonable deal?... that HAS been earned.

Hunt's an Indianapolis Colt for the forseeable future.

Respect the opinion, and I'd love to have him back.  I just doubt that Ballard will bring back a 32-year old DL whose best years are highly likely to be behind him...

  12. I love what Hunt's done, but he's been around a while and has had his best two years with the Colts.  While I'd love to reward him, he doesn't seem like a future cog that Ballard would re-sign.  We could squeeze some more decent years out of him, but we probably just saw his career years.  I see Ballard taking advantage of the great D-Line class and let someone else give Hunt the reps we'll want our young-uns to get.  Plus, I think some DL desperate team will give him more $ than you'd think...

  13. I conservatively figure a 31% chance for the playoffs.  The math flows from a 78% chance of beating the Giants, a 60% chance the Ravens lose to the Chargers, a 60% chance the Steelers lose to the Saints, and a 50% chance we lose to the Titans.  I believe those are the only factors we need to worry about.  Puts our draft pick about #19 if we miss, so I’ll go with that.

    Outside FAs: none

    Inside FAs: Glowinski (3-yr), Vini (3-yr), Desir (front-loaded 3-yr)

Let walk: Hunt (expensive), woods (old), Geathers (expensive for injury history), Grant, Slauson, et al.

    1) Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama

    2) Julian Love, CB, Notre Dame

    2) Jonathan Abram, S, Mississippi St.

    3) Nate Herbig, OG, Stanford

    4) Alijah Holder, CB, Stanford

    4) Chris Slayton, DT, Syracuse

    5) Jalen Hurd, WR, Baylor

    6) Joe Dineen, LB, Kansas

    7) Devon Johnson, OT, Ferris St.
