Your probably correct he might not be able to compete with Rogers and fountain right away. I think by mid season he should be pretty much back. If TY, Funchess, and Campbell are healthy though he doesn’t need to be fully back right away.

Like I said it won’t shock me if  Pascal and Rogers get cut and fountain makes it. Especially if Hines or Campbell step up on Punt Return duties.

Yep, I think there’s a lot of talent in the WR corps, but I’m not sure who’s gonna really step up.  With the talent there, though, I’m sure that Reich will make the receiving corps into twice the unit that anyone in the media thinks it can be...

Fountain couldn’t  even make the roster last season when we had no receivers though. Instead of saying working back into the lineup I could of said bringing him into the lineup slowly. I noticed today that a lot of players on other teams were announced as being on Pup today. Doesn’t look like Cain will be. He looks really good on videos he posts on Instagram.  This team is so high on him and think he is going to be a star. It would be shocking if they let him go before they see what he can do when fully healthy. Fountain would really have to show star potential.

I hope Cain is a star.  I certainly liked what I was hearing last year out of TC.  My spidey-sense keeps telling me it’s going to be hard for him to compete with Fountain and Rogers after such a bad injury.  But, I think there’s a lot of deep talent on this team, and we’re gonna cut some people who make an impact on other teams this year...

This is where I think a lot of Colt fans could be disappointed - when was Cain ever IN the lineup?  He was obviously set up for more instant success than Fountain b/c of Clemson coaching and better competition (vis-a-vis that of N. Iowa).  However, Fountain has likely developed way more than Cain since he’s been in Indy.  And look up their workout numbers - Fountain is an incredible athlete.

  4. I happen to believe that Cain is the odd man out as of right now in the WR corps.  Rogers is the clear #4 right now, and Fountain has a clear leg up on Cain - he’s a superior athlete and he’s been working very hard on routes when Cain’s been forced to rehab.  In the absence of injuries, I suppose we’ll be able to keep both by going with 6 WRs...

Rogers yes, Fountain, not really. I'm a big Fountain fan, but he played at N Iowa, and was a very raw one year wonder. Outside of health, how is Fountain way ahead of Cain?

Cain played at a top 5 D1 against major competition and had 500+ yards/year (for 3 straight years) beginning his FR year, skipping his SR year for the draft. Cain has it big over Fountain in terms of 1) polish, 2) competition played against, 3) college coaching received, and 4) overall production.

In terms of Pro production, neither have done anything. Cain by all reports had locked up starting X easily, while Fountain struggled running routes and didn't make the team even with Cain's injury (was cut and later resigned to the PS after clearing waivers IIRC). When he did get called up, he dropped a TD in mop up duty.

To me, it's going to be all about what position they see Fountain playing. IIRC he's been in a grey area. Has the size to play X, but was also running slot reps and was listed in the Z/Slot grouping on the depth chart when he was activated. If they see him as a long term X, he's competing with Cain and Pascal. If Z/Slot, competing with Campbell and Rogers.

Personally, If Fountain has taken a good step forward in terms of polish, I'd rather he play in the X space, with Pascal not making the cut. Pascal probably has the lowest ceiling out of front group.

There was a story out of OTAs the other day about several replays of Fountain running routes in OTAs being held up by Reich as the right way to run the routes.  Fountain is a better athlete than Cain, a notoriously hard worker, and he’s made progress while Cain’s been forced into the training room.  It may not be fair, because Cain was definitely better coming in, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore..,

It is going to be almost impossible for him to make it. There is really only one spot maybe two left at WR. Unless Cain starts out on PUP. Reich did say he likes him but he must be able to play ST. I think Rogers takes that 5th spot and I doubt we will carry 6.

This attitude is pervasive around here, and I disagree.  Cain’s resume consists of about ten good days of TC and an ACL tear.  Coming off such a major injury and not having much time for development last year/this off-season, Cain is way behind Fountain and Rogers.  Those two have to be considered much more likely to make the roster than Cain...particularly with the great off-seasons they’ve had.

    Mayfield and Rogers equal?

"You can't be serious!" -John McEnroe

Rodgers didn't look very good last year.  Obviously also expecting a certain arc for Mayfield's second year - I was a fan of his accuracy and leadership during last draft season, and I'm a fan still.  (Love the McEnroe reference, though!)

Boehm I doubt is going anywhere. We didn’t notice to much when Kelly was out.

No way is Sheard going anywhere this year. If we didn’t want him anymore he probably has some trade value. I just don’t see it.

Also, if you see giving Banogu 3rd down DE duties and Houston, Turay, Muhammad, Green, and sometimes Lewis also play DE...well, maybe they don’t want Sheard taking reps from the young ‘uns.  We’re gonna have to make more painful cuts than in years past...

  10. Of guys we all expect to be on the roster, I’ve got Nate Hairston, Evan Boehm, Skai Moore, & Zaire Franklin looking like they’re on the outside looking in.  In addition, I can see Chester Rogers, Matthias Farley, and even Jabaal Sheard fighting for their spots (and one or more losing)...

  11. Every year I rank these guys, largely based upon pro days and college production.  Last year George Odum was my #1 (great workout), but I had Skai Moore as 5th...so, just like the daft, I hit some, I miss some.  (Though virtually no hits this year!). Anyway, here are my top UCFAs this year:

    1) DT Sterling Shippy, Alcorn St.  6’, 300. 4.82 forty, 32 bench reps, 32.5 vertical.  38 tackles, 14.5tfl, 8 sacks, 5qbh, 2 ff.  We didn’t draft a DT, and this guy was a productive DT with fantastic workout #s.  Seems ideal for the system.

    2) Ashton Dulin, WR, Malone.  6’1, 215.  4.43 forty.  13 reps, 38 vertical, 10&1 broad jump, 33&3/8 arms,  7.00 3-cone, 4.22 short shuttle.  61/984/11 receiving line.  28 kick returns for a 29.9 avg, with 3 TDS.  Great workout and college production, with ST ability.

    3)  Marquis Young, RB, UMass.  6’1, 210.  4.51 forty.  20 bench reps, 36.5 vertical, 10&4 broad jump.  5.1 yard running avg, with 9 TDs.    Also had 22 receptions.

    4) Penny Hart, WR, Georgia St.  Had a crap workout at his Pro Day, prompting rumors he was hurt.  But showed so much on tape that many draftniks expected him to be a Day 2 guy at the beginning of draft season.
