The run defense in that game is a bit concerning, but it could get better in the coming weeks.
I won’t really go back and rewatch this game, but I wonder how much of our struggles against the run yesterday came from committing extra defenders into coverage. We held Stroud to 230 yards or something, which was way better than we were told to expect..

It’s getting pretty unbearable around here, with people calling for Ballard and Bradley’s heads over a two-point loss to a top SB contender. In reality, I thought AR played a fantastic game. Not perfect, but an excellent game. And that’s the most important thing for our short-term and long-term success - we seem to have a QB.
I had this game as a probable win for us, and the GB game as a probable loss. It seems that we caught a major break in the injury front in GB. Looks like Malik Willis at QB. The opening line looks like it’ll be Colts by 2.5. Pull off the win and we’ll get the 1-1 start I expected. What do y’all think? Would you be happy with a 1-1 start against these two teams if AR stays healthy and looks like a franchise QB? Or is it too little, too late for Ballard/Bradley/Steichen?

For what it’s worth, 3-point home underdogs are 10-11-1 (straight up) in Week 1 over the last 15 years. That’s a 48% win %. Maybe it’s pride and enthusiasm kicking in, or maybe I parsed it out until it’s meaningless (like a shortstop’s batting average in home night games against RHPs in the second week of July with a game temperature below 75° on a day the Dow Jones closed up by 0.25% - 0.50%). But, as far as Vegas is concerned, the Colts could very well win this game.

I love Week 1. It’s where we relearn every year in a half dozen games that our offseason analysis doesn’t mean Jack Crap.

Control the LoS on both sides. Be bullies, especially by putting Stroud on the ground.

I still think he had a good preseason. I won't miss him, but he's not as bad as the discourse here suggests.
I was disappointed we cut him instead of Flowers. Dallis has lost a step, and he might need another year to fully recover.

Hey, divisional games are always tough and Houston is a good team. But, I feel like the Texans are way over-hyped this year. Like WAAAYYY over hyped. I mean, the same team that nipped us in the final game added a Pass-rusher, lost a pass-rusher, and took a problem wr off the Bills’ hands, and now they’re some kind of overwhelming favorite? I get it - Stroud could take the next step - but Houston has its holes and weaknesses like any other team.

To Scott's point -- I don't think either the Patriots nor the Colts ever foresaw just how good Kenny Moore turned out to be. So, sure, there's going to be someone who falls through the cracks and winds up being really, really good. But to take somebody on waivers and expect them to be amazing? I would doubt it.
Ballard didn’t want to sign Moore. He has said that he had two of his scouts jumping on the table for him after cuts, so he put the waiver claim in reluctantly…

Damn... Baker out?
A bit surprised. Flowers did nothing to make this roster, but Baker had a good TC and pre-season. They must be giving Flowers grace for the fact that he’s not fully recovered from the Achilles.

I think Pinter or Bortolini would be in more trouble than Tucker. In fact, Bortolini can go to IR with a return designation now that cuts have been made. I don't know what his status is, but that could be in play to free up a roster spot.
Really good point about Bortolini and the IR.

FYI, everyone, NFL teams have until noon today to make waiver claims. Last year we made three - Land, Sills, and Ryan Hayes. We had an official announcement from Colts.com at 2:22 on Wednesday last year. I can only imagine that it was out on the rumor mill before that. So, we’ll find out who, if anyone, we pick up at about 2pm or so…

Sorry, I don’t follow….
FWIW:I hadn’t heard of Destin as a Titans reporter before. So at your comment, I clicked on Destin’s X account. The first thing it says is Colts beat writer. No mention of Titans anywhere.
A deep plant!

Well, I see they waived bean. That’s a mistake in my opinion.
Keep in mind that Bean was the #1 pick in the UFL (I think that’s what they’re calling it) draft. So, he has to decide if he wants to play or be on a PS…

Woods injury opened the door for both him and Mallory. It did, but we could keep only 3, with Mallory, Granson, and MAC.

Kinda interested to see how many TEs and RBs are kept, too. Ogletree’s done nothing to make this team this year (that I’ve heard), and if Sermon is expected back soon we could probably go with only 3 RB.

I think that’s why Davis was brought in, to be Grover’s backup and Bryan will be Buckner’s backup.
Adetomiwa has been really good this year, though, which may make Taven expendable.

Why does it seem the rest of the NFL are doing the Titans favors this offseason? Getting Sneed for hardly anything and now this? Can’t stand that punk team.
Teven Bryan sucks.
I wouldn’t be so sure. Dayo and Tyquan can play 3T and we have a back-up NT. We could cut Taven too…

We are usually good for a bottom-of-the-roster trade or a pick-up of another team’s final cuts at the cut-down date.

I couldn’t believe that Buffalo traded into the top 10 to get a 3rd team all-WAC QB who would never be accurate. Year 1 I looked right. Year 2 he was mediocre, but better than I ever thought he’d be. And Year 3 Josh Allen was an MVP caliber QB.

Just a chance to get some actual game time in before the regular season. Hopefully, it’ll help them come out a little sharper against the Texans.

Dulin injured his hamstring, in practice, before the Denver game.
WR will be Interesting during cut-downs. We are running a bit heavy at that position. With Pittman, Pierce, Mitchell and Downs locks. I expect Anthony Gould should to make roster. Does Ballard then only keep 5? or would they carry 6?
I have us keeping six, including Dulin. Treadwell could make it interesting, but he’d have to have another game like the Cardinal game. Probably also have to impress in ST…

Report: Brents to IR
in Colts Football
Posted
Hate to turn the subject back to the original one. (After all, who doesn’t enjoy a good anonymous forum argy-bargy.). But, did anyone notice Brents get hurt during the game? I had to fast forward a lot, since I couldn’t get home to the game until it had been going for a couple of hours. I never noticed Brents going down with an injury. It seems like that happens z lot to the Colts. Guy plays substantially the whole game, I don’t see him get hurt, but after the game we find out he has a not-insubstantial injury.
