We can't win with the secondary the way it is. Teams always pass all over us even with mediocre to bad QBs. It has to stop. Sign and extend Sneed.

I disagree with this sentiment.  We had a bad run with injuries last year at CB, which was already a young, developing group.  But Flowers was looking like a decent #1 when he went down for the year.  Then Brents looked good as the #1 until he got injured and then showed his rookiness when he returned.  And Jones looked quite good around mid-season.  I’d love to add a dominant #1 as much as the next guy, but signing an FA to be that guy is the absolute most expensive way to do that.  And it sounds like Sneed is pricing us out of the market.  We may just have to draft a CB in the first or second and hope that one guy on the team can develop into a solid #1 guy, but it should work out much better than last year!

I work for a large government agency and one day someone accidentally sent an email to the entire agency (30,000+ people). People started sending reply-all emails saying things like "You accidentally sent this to me." Then people started angrily sending reply-all emails saying "DON'T REPLY-ALL!" but they were sending reply-all emails too. It became a vicious cycle, and by the end, I had received 500 emails because of this one accidentally sent email.😅

Also happened in the large govt agency I work for.  Really shook my faith in my organization to see so many replying to all to tell people not to reply to all.  At least it was easy to have Outlook sort by the subject line and mass delete them.  It’s fun to tell the story to millennials who weren’t around yet…

ballard is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting a diff result. he also should cut his hair.  Joe Flacco will only hold clipboards, Sam is the best QB on roster.

Oh, come on!  I just saw Ballard sipping a Pina Colada. over at Trader Vic’s, and his hair was perfect!

Joel Erickson made some good points on radio this morning. Everyone talking about Titans and Texans improving in FA. He made a great point how no they haven’t. They replaced guys they lost. Pollard for Beney. Hunter for Grenard.

He also mentioned how all the guys colts brought back would have been some of the best at their positions in FA.

I love this point.  The media gives credit to the big spending teams for “improving”, when in reality they’re bringing in FAs who may or may not integrate well into their systems to replace players lost in FA.  At least we brought back guys who we know mesh well, so we aren’t any worse.  And Ballard is easily a Top 10 drafter IMO, so we can certainly improve steadily with this strategy…

We have Granson, Ogletree, Woods and Mallory. A lot of talking heads are saying we should draft Bowers.

I just don't get why they are still hanging onto Cox and his $5 mil contract?

I agree, but maybe we like that keeping him around a little longer further hides our 1st round intentions.  Is there any advantage to releasing him before the league year opens tomorrow?  Any advantage to doing it before the draft?

That's what I see and subtract 9 mill for rookies and another 4 million for reserves and we're down to around 23 mill left. Could jump up to 29 depending on whether or not Cox is retained for the 5.9 mill he's due. So we are not done and should improve the roster a bit before the April draft.

Of course, we’d have to know the contracts’ specifics to know their year 1 impacts, right?  Not a great capologist, so I can never quite figure out what we have to work with…

FWIW:  I’m not sure Ballard will find a CB in this class.   There are not many with 32 inch arms.  It’s the opposite to last year’s class when almost everyone had those super long arms.    So I don’t know how CB will respond.

It’d have to be Melton IMHO, but I’m not sure we’ll be able to get to the CB need that early in the draft…

Let’s see what happens with Rigoberto, Moore and Blackmon. 2 out of 3 of those probably leave us.

Who is the Brock Purdy of this year’s QB draft?  I’m willing to wait till the 7th round to fill our back up QB need!

Yeah, I’m starting to think that there is a very short list of backup QBs in FA that we’re considering, and if those don’t work out we’ll go with Ehlinger and a draftee…

    Good Morning.

What is it with your certain group of guys and girls on here?

There should not be one fan who, currently, should like this organization's philosophy of running things.

It really has been a mediocre result. < This is the issue.  A middle of the pack team.

Most of the high-end players get gobbled up on the 1st day of legal tampering. Do they get overpaid? Yes. Is that the norm? Yes.

Yet most on here keep stating the same thing. "I would never pay that or sacrifice that". News flash. The Colts brass obviously feels the same way. Unfortunately, the only thing to show from this is a middle of the pack team. At some point, that insanity you speak of needs to be projected onto the front office way of doing things and not on the fans who are getting restless.

If the Colts way of doing things were showing a high ratio of results, I personally would not be constantly nitpicking every move at this time of year or at any other time of year either.

So far, they have spent their money on players that have been part of that middle of the pack team. I just do not see how keeping and focusing on middle of the pack players and surrounding them with other middle of the pack FA's and unproven rookies will ever get this team out of the middle for a consistent duration of time. It has not happened albeit one year with Rivers out of 6 or 7. That ratio is not good regardless of whatever reason you lay at its feet. The one constant though is middle of the pack FAs in the majority.

    -Peace

Have we been mediocre recently?  Yes.  Is it our philosophy towards team-building that has kept us mediocre?  No.  It’s the lack of a top-tier QB.  We took the leap and drafted one last year, and our ascension to the top tier will primarily depend on Richardson’s progress and our ability to build a top scoring O with him at the helm.  As for our FA strategy, I think it’s kept us competitive despite being in QB hell…

  10. On the eve of free agency:

1-24: Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas.  Trade down with Dallas.  You want to get more explosive?  Worthy is how that looks.

2-46: Max Melton, CB, Rutgers.  Great athlete and underrated corner.  Over 32” arms, which makes Ballard happier than Quinyon or Arnold could.

2-56: Ruke Orhorhoro, 3T, Clemson.  Our DT depth was bad last year.

3-82: Mason McCormick, OG, SD St.  We’ve all identified that this guy is exactly what Ballard wants.

4-116: James Williams, LB, Miami.  Maybe a little bit of a departure due to his so-so combine.  But the tape shows a good safety conversion project.

5-150: Khristian Boyd, NT, N. Iowa.  Maybe we can slow down the run a little when Grover ain’t in there.

6-190: Kimani Vidal, RB, Troy.  Competition for Hull and Goodson.

    7-234: John Huggins, S, Jackson St.  6’1, 211, 4.47 forty, 38.5v, 11 1/8 broad jump, 6.91 3-cone.  A Ballard-type athlete in the 7th.

UCFA: Baylor Cupp, TE, Texas Tech.  4.55 forty at 6’6, 260.  Good athlete to develop as an in-line TE.

  11. I would say Quinyon if forced to choose.  However, I’m starting to believe that Ballard’s strong preference for long-armed CBs would preclude him from selecting Mitchell and his 31” arms that high in the draft.  I think he considers 32” arms a minimum for a major addition.  Just a guess, though.  I’d see us trading down and targeting one of the WR prospects, like Worthy or Adonai.
