I am in the same camp as you. I love this draft. Not just to give him weapons but you have a stud receiver that you draft. Also I love... I mean love Anthony Gordon and have been in his bandwagon for about 2 months now.

Looks like it’s probably you and me, buddy, on this one!   I watched a lot of Eason and a little of Love, and I’m way higher on Gordon.  Not a good year to be in on an early QB IMO, unless you can get Burrow.

  2. Obviously, I’m in the “give Brissett another year” camp, which’ll lose most of you immediately.  But, here goes:

    Sign: S Jeff Heath, Cowboys

Re-Sign: Castonzo, Haeg, Jonathan Williams, Funchess, and all RFAs/ERFAs.

    Draft:

    1) Henry Ruggs, WR, Alabama

    2) Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma

    2) Alaric Jackson, OT, Iowa

    3) Jonah Jackson, OL, Ohio St.

    4) Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington St.

    5) Bryce Sterk, DE, Montana St.

    6) Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinios

    6) Stephen Sullivan, TE, LSU

    7) Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn

Strong possibility of trading down in the 2nd and getting the same players, but I hate to predict trades (though I sometimes do).

  3. No one meets all your criteria.  The closest is definitely Jerry Jeudy...which is why he’ll be a top 10 pick, easily.  I’m settling into Henry Ruggs, Alabama.  Probably a 4.30 guy, and great hands and body control.  6’, 190 lbs.  Needs to work quite a bit on his routes, as he was mainly just a vertical guy who ran deep in college.  Got his separation from his blinding speed.  But the tools and athletic ability are there to develop in this area...

    You might be right..

And yeah, it would be a mistake and we in the "JB can't actually throw the ball accurately" camp would be unhappy.

The problem is that this is a super easy "see I told ya so" waiting to happen- I know those holding out hope are going to say "un uh" and "wait and see". We've done this for 2 years now. They need to move on while it's not a bigger deal (in both respects).

This is where I don’t get the Love love.  Love completed 62% of his passes this year and had 20/17 TD/INT ratio and 7.2 ypa this year...in college!  It’s not the norm to jump a huge level in competition and suddenly improve accuracy (though Josh Allen surprised me in Year 2).  Now, I know the Lovers are quick to point out that he looked much better last year under better coaching, but those numbers scream just what you’re on JB for - he’ll probably struggle to develop NFL accuracy...

  5. Yeah, I have a feeling many of you could be upset at draft time, with Ballard failing to draft a QB on the first or second day.  I could see him adding a middle round guy  he likes and see if JB builds on how he played in the first seven games this year.  Adding a high-end WR and improving in the trenches early could help JB immensely and be good uses of early picks regardless of who ends up being the long-term QB...

  6. While I don’t think it’s just that simple, I agree that a pick on either line early this year is well spent.  Kinlaw (or Austin Jackson in trade-down) in the 1st, Kindley or Alaric Jackson on Day 2, and others would please me.  However, if CeeDee Lamb were to fall to #13, I’d take him instead.  It would be a great year to add a top WR...

Sincere question: Have you watched either of them?

Yes, I’ve watched quite a bit of Eason, and a little bit of Love.  I like Gordon quite a bit more than Eason, and from what I’ve seen of Love, I wouldn’t take a shot at him until Round 3 - and someone should take him before that.  But at some point of watching these guys’ games, I thought to myself, “Do I like these guys’ chances of making it more than JB’s?”  JB looked like the answer and the team was 5-2, he injured his knee, and then he didn’t look like the answer.  I’d add a better value in Round 4, let JB be the clear #1, and if he looks like he did in the second half of the season, start evaluating the rookie and Kelly.  It’s not a popular opinion, but it acknowledges that overdrafting Love or Eason (IMHO) isn’t likely to be a good long-term solution...

I think you can count on a new TE on the team====one who can stretch the field a bit. That is a missing ingredient to the Colts offense. I suspect Ebron is history,  so whether its a FA or the draft, its gonna happen. And needs to.

Yeah, I think we can expect one in the draft.  I like the sound of Ian Bunting, and he’s been on the PS all year.  But he’s more of a big blocker, so a move guy should be in order...

  9. Does anyone else think Ballard has handled the position strangely this year?  Tried to pass Hentges to the PS, and lost him.  He seemed to have a bright future - strange move to risk him.  Ross Travis woulda been a good guy to bring to camp next year, but we waived him right before the last game (claimed by Jets).  I like Doyle and Cox, but we squandered some possibilities for quality depth...

I have questions/reservations about the other QB possibilities (Love, Eason, Herbert) as well. I'm not sure what to make of the QBs yet.

This is how I feel after watching these QBs the last few days.  Honestly, I don’t think Love, Eason, or Fromm will be any better than Brissett was this year.  Maybe we Colt fans have collectively forgotten how hard it is to find a franchise QB.  I think maybe we add a mid- to late-round guy like Jamie Newman of Wake Forest or Anthony Gordon of Wazzu, and let him and Kelly battle it out for fallback option if Brissett doesn’t look like he did in the first seven games...

I don’t understand all the love for Love.  I’m not sure I’d take him in the 3rd.  He had a lousy year...

Never quoted myself before, but I was too harsh on the subject.  I’ve never watched the guy play.  Just saw his stats and read a scouting report, then started popping my mouth off...

My point is, why play the long game with someone so risky, and pay him tops in the PS world, if they don't see something they really like. It would be much easier and cheaper with someone with no flags.

It’s easy to find something to like with the guy.  He’s got a really nice arm, and he played well for us in pre-season.  The red flags are the only reason we got him for nothing.  Now that we have him, he has to build the trust that he’s been unworthy of in the past.  If we don’t make him work to earn his next shot, we still won’t know what kind of man we’ve got...

So as long as he doesn't going swimming in the Indy canal over the spring/summer, you're open to him playing?

If they are really willing to play the long game with him, they must really think there is potential.

He cost us nothing to get him.  No one else wanted him.  Yeah, I think the long game (if you call 2 years a long game) is 100% appropriate with this guy.  If he ever starts a game, he’s exceeded my expectations for him...

  14. 3 hours ago, EastStreet said:

If you don't feel you can ever trust him in the future, why invest in him even with a PS spot in the first place. There are plenty of other cheap alternatives out there without the baggage that are more safe game manager types. And why give him one of the highest paid PS contracts. And even if it's just developmental for a backup, if you really feel you'll never be able to trust him, do you want him as a guy who is one injury away from leading the team.

Not saying it "solves" anything by playing him, but it certainly provides valuable evaluation time even if he's only considered back up material going forward. And we're in a situation where the season or outcomes of games don't matter near as much. IMO, optics is the only reason not to evaluate. And that's weak.

I don’t think that he can never be trusted.  He’s kept out of trouble for longer on the Colts than he has anywhere else.  But let’s see if he can keep clean through that critical off-season, and if he can do that and come in motivated next year, then we can start trusting his character.  Let’s not forget how many times he proved unworthy in the past.

  15. I personally think we’re working QB from three angles right now: 1) Jacoby looked like a good starting QB in his first 7 starts, and he looked bad in the 5 since his knee injury.  He showed enough to get another shot.  It’s hard to find a starting QB.  2) Kelly has looked good, and he could possibly be a future starter.  3) Luck could unretire after two years away from the game he used to love.  His leg should be fine, and after two years of thumb-twiddling and changing poopie diapers, he may come back...

  16. In no particular order:

    - A top-end WR.  All of our returning possibilities had terrible injury years: TY, Campbell, Fountain (best camp of any Colt, then dislocated ankle).  There’s lots of talent there, with Pascal likely to be re-signed IMO, Marcus Johnson coming on, Dulin surprising, etc.  But we HAVE to make triply sure that Brissett has a top option to throw to next year.  No more messing around at WR.

    - NT/DT.  Ballard wants to have 8 starters on the DL he can rotate.  It was clear early in the year that he didn’t believe he had that 2nd team big guy to rotate with Grover (who had a great year).

    - OL Depth.  Looking over the roster after final cuts, nothing stood out more to me than how poor our OL depth is.  I like Haeg and we should re-sign him, but both Andrews and LeRaven looked terrible against 2nd and 3rd teamers in Preseason.  Both have been serviceable in the past, but thank God we haven’t had OL injuries this year for the first time in recent memory.

If course, the QB position is the big, ole matzo ball hanging out there, but I think Brissett gets another year and Kelly gets a long look as backup.  Failing Jeudy, Lamb, or Derrick Brown falling to us in Round 1, I could definitely see us bringing in Tristan Wirfs, Alex Leatherwood, or Jedrick Wills and pushing Glowinski out of the starting lineup...wouldn’t that be an unpopular move around here?!

  17. Awww, come on, some of our fans booed Luck when he retired, but it wasn’t the prevailing sentiment among Colt fans.  Don’t judge a fan base based on a few booers, especially when the Patriot fan base has so much worse stuff to be judged by (their support of/denial of team cheating, their arrogance, the fact that they consider it a personal accomplishment when their team “wins”, and I could go on...)
