  1. Oakland. Long rich tradition, but before Reggie McKenzie stepped in as GM 2 years ago, they had rivaled the Browns for a decade.

The real reason though, any team which has to play in a stadium where the sewer backs up into the locker rooms should just be deleted. Oakland cannot support the team. Once they move, we can un delete them.

Personally, I would like to see one of the CA. teams go to St. Louis. LA is not a good market for the NFL and one team is plenty, especially when you have another team 45 minutes to the South who is not supported, and their stadium is only marginally better than Oakland's!

I think this is a terrible class of receivers.....    and I think once you get past the 2nd or 3rd round,  it's not very obvious who is going to be taken where.    I think there are going to be lots of surprises....

"That receiver went that high?!?"       "Can't believe that receiver fell so far and went in that round?!?"

Lots of that kind of talk will happen on the Sunday and Monday after the draft....

WR might be my least favorite position in this year's draft.      I don't see us drafting one,    I see us signing one or two sometimes during the off-season.

I am glad we drafted Dorsett now, after looking at this class of WR. The only receiver I like, and who I think would fit with what we need is Corey Coleman. Luckily, Dorsett will be back, is working hard, and will fill the position perfectly. Montcrief and TY wide, and Dorsett in the slot and hopefully Allen running wide open down the field, and I don't have to worry about him catching the ball.

Also, along with WR, this is definitely the weakest class of TE I have seen in a long time. We are lucky to have the depth we have.

  3. Lasco is someone we have looked at, and he is flying a little under the radar. He won't be there in the 7th though. A relatively good sized RB who runs a 4.48, is strong, and does not have a lot of wear on the tires. All the listings I have seen him going in the 5th possibly falling to the 6th. I think regardless of where he falls, he will be a good late choice.

  4. I have read he will be converted to a WR or RB. Everything I have read has him going in the 7th or a FA. I would draft the kid in the 7th. Why, because he will give everything he has on the field, and he is a leader. Even if he turned out to be a special teams guy, he would be a captain. Competitors like him are guys you want on a team as an example to everyone. We need that kind of youth and energy. He would be infectious, and that is one intangible no draft statistic will ever measure, and worth a 7th round pick any day. In fact, if we had a 6th, I would go that high, and I believe some team will. Teams need guys like him!

  5. I believe it calls for two part assessment. Was there someone who you thought would be off the board who is still there and you wanted. Then you take them.

Second, you need to look at where you are trading down to, and the teams who would now be ahead of you. You go to 23, so Houston, they are probably going WR, so no problem there, but if there is a team say

Washington who you think wants and needs a player you want, then you can't trade down either, unless you will

be happy with someone else filling that need, for example if you wanted Kelly but would be happy with Martin in

    the second.

Last thing, draft points happen to say 160 pts. is the cost to move up, which is there third round pick, but usually in the first round, you have to pay a little extra. I would ask for the third, and the sixth rd. pick we don't have anymore. Presto, we have 8 picks now which would be nice.

  6. Every scout who talks about Kelly has him as a plug and play from day one, and a future pro bowler, and if not a very good career. I have heard nothing negative about him, and yes there may be other picks, BPA, who we could take, but if there are only about 15 players who have first round grades of the top 50. Kelly is ranked by most I follow in the 30-40 range, so would it really be such a big reach. I just think it is such an important position, and he would be perfect. Also, a lot of people say Grigson would never draft a C at 18. I think the dynamic has changed a bit, and Pagano and Philbin possibly may have more input. I want a sure thing that upgrades us immediately. The rest of the picks, defense, unless someone unexpectedly falls. A Safety definitely in our 2nd round.

    1. I really like what you have put up Blue Shoe. The only things I don't agree with is Dallas won't take Bosa, imho, and Buckner falling to 11. Who knows though. We usually have the top ten right, but after that, especially the last few years there have been a lot of surprises. What happens if someone falls. If Conklin were to fall, I bellieve we would seriously consider taking him. Also, someone in the top 15 is going to fall for one reason or another. Others could rise up into the first who we don't know yet. An example, when David Decastro fell to Pittsburgh two years ago. He was seen as top 15, Pitt got him in the 20's. Had a rough first year, but has been really good since. We shall see. Best case scenario, Elliot or someone else a team really wants, and we get to trade down, pick up a second or third, and still draft Kelly.

    LPC,

But do you want to go back to the Super Bowl?

That will be tough in SF..

Like you say, the Thursday meet at Elway's home is new...I'm guessing that doesnt happen if Elway doesnt want him. You don't need someone in your home to talk contract.

It comes down to....do you want to play for the Broncos and do you want to go back to the Super Bowl.

How bad do you want it.

They've got to structure something with short cash this year bonus money...but, again, they must be close if Elway is letting CK stay over at the 'horse mansion'

Something like...Kap gets $3 mil and $3 mil more for every playoff game he starts and the Broncos win.

There's the $12 mil. Bonus money doesn't count against the cap right?.

What it comes down to.....Is Colin Kaepernick better than Mark Sanchez....

I would say that he is

I agree Denver is a much better place for Kaepernick to play. I think the fans of SF have lost faith in him, and I believe the talk around the NFL among players about Chip Kelly is not too positive. Denver would be a great landing spot, and I think Denver offers him a little more than 7M, but will give incentives also. Denver still has a very good defense, plus I think the offense suits him more due to how Kubiak likes to rollout his QB, which for Kaepernick would be good. He is not a pocket passer. He has no touch, he throws rockets. The question is two fold for denver, can you improve his accuracy, and what is the true story on his health. I had a rod in my leg, and it is no small health concern. I had no idea Kaep has a rod in one of his legs. If I am Kaep, if we can find middle ground I would go, but it is still 5M/yr. right now. A lot of players talk of going to a team who can win for less, but generally only do this at the end of their career. Also, I don't know if Kaep is better than Sanchez right now? I do believe working with Elway would help him, and it must be nice to know Elway wants him to be his QB.

So in the end, I agree with you about the destination, much better place to play. It seems though right now, SF really wants at least a second or early third, and SF wants a 4th. Give them a 4th this year and a conditional pick next year, say another 4th depending on how much he plays.

It is amazing to me in the first year we had Luck, and he took a team with no depth and no star power except a few players, 35M in dead cap money, and took them to 11-5. I still believe it was one of the most incredible QB seasons, especially for a rookie replacing Peyton Manning. In the same year though, RGIII and Kaep got all the pub. and everyone said they were the future. Look how far both have fallen. Amazing!

  8. Yes I understand it is a reach, but if only 15 players are true first rounders, then rankings after 20 are not irrelevant, but they would all be ranked as second rounder picks. I know what everyone says about Grigson. I also know most scouts love the kid and say he is the rare plug and play right away. When Pitt took Pouncey in the 1st, it solidified that line, although he has been injury plagued. I want someone Andrew can work with for the next ten years and depend on. Now if it happens to be another guy, OK, I won't argue. I just don't want to keep shifting back between Holmes or Harrison. I want some continuity.

In the end, others may have imput on this behind the scenes. I believe they brought Philbin in to get this line right. He may have some say. Also, not showing interest means nothing. If I wanted a player, I would not show interest either. His tape speaks for itself. Smoke and mirror time of the year. I doubt Kelly will be who we take at 18, but I for one would not mind a small reach in the 1st.

A lot of those guys will still be there at 18

Agree, although this is the consensus of the top picks, I am always amazed each year how many people fall, and how many people think were second and third round picks go early. Teams stick to their board, and players always fall.

Now if all three were gone, which I don't believe, but just for the topic, I would hate Floyd, who is the one player I do not want.

The one I want is Ryan Kelly, although everyone believes it is too high. Sorry I want the glue for the OL, and he is a potential Pro Bowler who is a plug and play right now which is rare for an OL.

  10. The purge continues with the Browns. All those new numbers guys must believe in the draft, and next year they will have a significant amount of draft picks thanks to all the comp. picks they will get from FA, and a couple will be 3rd or 4th. Still, the roster has been laid barren. I believe they will draft a QB with the 2nd, but I also believe RGIII will start the season, will go out due to injury, and the QB they draft will be running for their life. I bet we also see Thomas traded. He is not in their rebuilding plans at 30, and they are clearly thinking long term. Also, who is RGIII going to throw to?

  11. 35 minutes ago, akcolt said:

They have come out and said they think the OL is close. We expect Philbin to make a big difference. It's really not all that crazy to think getting a solid C would stabalize the OL.

Does this not argue for taking Ryan Kelly. I agree with a lot of what you said, because I think the addition of Philbin is going to help the OL, but almost every scout says Kelly is a start right away, plug and play, and will have a very good to pro bowl career. To me it is the most important position on the OL. I would love to trade down to get Kelly late in the first, but I still won't be surprised if he is the pick at 18. The only boards I really look at are top 50 boards of McShay, Jeremiah, Kiper and Mayock, and they all have him from 30-40. Yes it would be a little bit of reach, but at 18, I don't think there is going to be a player we have to have. Most believe there are only about 15 first round draft grades anyway. So why not take close to BPA and a need. Just my two cents. As I always say, the mock drafts and what they all say mean nothing before. If anyone would have said Dorsett was our first round pick before the draft last year, they could have found a way to make a lot of money!

  12. This is not my two cents, but what is coming from Vegas, and generally there information is pretty good as far as who is going to do what. Colts are still the favorite to win the division. The odds before Free Agency as far as the division were Indy 5/12 favorites. Houston was 2/1, Jacksonville 9/2, and Tenn. 12/1.

Ok, I know you are saying that was before FA, but if you look at the odds to win the SB, it shows you Vegas just does not have a lot of faith in how much FA does for teams. Odds to win SB. Indy is +1600, Houston +2800,

Jacksonville +8400, and Tenn. +12,000. So you can translate that to Indy still being a large favorite to win the division despite FA, which I think most teams will regret.

Oh and as far as the Legion of Boom, Jacksonville had a win total before FA of over/under 6 1/2 games, so it does not look like they are ready to be Seattle yet. The article did say though Jacksonville opened up at O/U 6 games, and a lot of money poured in on them, so the public thinks they have improved.

The one thing I know is I don't really know! Vegas proves that to me each year! They are very smart!

  13. This article is basically a click bait article as it rehashes most of the problems. First, this is not the first time Kaepernick has met with Elway, it is the second, although I doubt the first one was at his home. Why entertain Kaepernick, well the Broncos are up against the salary cap, and Elway has said he won't pay more than 7M a year, plus I am sure incentives, to Kaep. Why if you are Kaep and guaranteed 12M this year plus incentives, it is locked in now April 1st has come and gone, would you accept less? Last, SF seems with their QB situation like they are happy to keep him, unless Denver comes up with a second. With all Kaep's uncertainty, health and how he performed last year, would you give up a second. Denver says they are willing to give a fourth. I see this as a merry go round. I think what could possibly happen is Denver on draft day makes a deal, but Kaep still would have to accept less money, which I would not willingly do. He may want to get traded, but traded and accepting 5 million less per year are a lot to ask. S.F. is a beautiful town if you have 5M extra in your pocket!

  14. Russell cannot stay healthy and we as a team already have a problem with health. Not sure I want to add

someone who already has had a problem with it. I think he had two seasons disrupted in college by injuries.

I like Russell and the tape when he is healthy. Maybe if moved to FS, he could stay healthier. We need a FS

really badly and Geather is a SS. I wish Joseph would drop, but he won't be there in the 2nd. He has been

moving up many boards rapidly. Late 1st, early 2nd. Russell in the 4th would be a great pick though.

  15. I am not going to argue how good Tunsil will be, but the problem is lineman are not being coached the same way because of the spread, and it is hurting their development. Tunsil comes out of a spread offense. If I go back the past 5 years, and look at the tackles who have gone number one, or top 10, it sounds like a siren saying no, don't do it.

2010-Trent Williams-Worked out Great, Russell Okung- good not worth the money under old CBA,

    2011-Tyron Smith-Another great pick,

2012- Matt Kalil-Good first year, now looks like bust

2013-Eric Fisher number one pick and bust so far. Luck Joeckel- Bust potential so far, Lane Johnson-Good player but not a LT, Jonathan Cooper-Bust potential so far, Chance Warmack was number 11, and although not a bust, has not lived up to draft position. This was the year of the lineman, and not one of them has lived up to the billing.

2014- Greg Robinson, not a bust but moved to guard so time will tell, Jake Matthews-Injured a lot so he is in the bust potential also, Titans again at 11, Taylor Lewan, are going to move him to RT so has not lived up to promise so far, just like Warmack.

2015-Brandon Sherff, not a great first season, up and down, Ereck Flowers, not looking like a top ten pick.

Look my point is in the last ten years among lineman drafted in the top ten, I can make an argument maybe 5 were worth the high pick. Hindsight is always 20/20 and the problem is you have to project ceilings for these players because the coaching is not nearly what it was before the spread. The transition has become so much tougher to the NFL, and the numbers and coaches say the same thing. That is why not just ours, but many OL's have not been good.

Tunsil looks like a great LT, strong, light on his feet, but in two out of the last 3 drafts, the titans have already picked two LT's at number 11, and neither one is playing LT now. There career is young, but drafting another LT, I would just think about someone who is a true stud athlete. I guess it is one of the reasons I love Jalen Ramsey or Myles Jack. They are hybrids who can play multiple positions, which is so important today.

To me, Ramsey, Jack are the safer picks. Lineman scare me now in the top ten especially coming from spread formation teams.

  16. Count me among the ones who don't understand. I believed before the 15 season they would pay the man, but then they picked Leonard Williams. He was by far BPA who fell to them at 6 I believe, and with Richardson, Snacks, Mo and Williams, the line looked incredible. Then Richardson got arrested, and under the circumstances I could not believe they did not do a deal with Wilkerson, and put Richardson out there as trade bait. I don't know how he was not suspended. Regardless, as much money as they spent last year, they made a large mistake, and now salaries at that position in FA have ballooned. They are in cap trouble, so I assume they are going to try and trade him. The only problem, no one is going to give them more than a second. I would be happy to give them a second for an anchor like that, but after Vernon and the Giants, you are talking 18M a year with at least 50M guaranteed. That is the albatross which makes Wilkerson tough to trade, unless you have a lot of salary cap. We could do it, since Andrew's salary is already counted on our cap for this year, and we have plenty of cap going forward, but I highly doubt it. I would love to have him though. I wonder if we gave a second for him, and paid him if the board would be happy, or howling about the money. If you look at our cap going forward, not this year, we could do it, and we need an impact player on the defensive side! I can dream!!!

  17. I think we should hope he is there at our pick, because if he is, there are going to be teams wanting to trade up, like the Jets. I would be happy to move down 2 spots for a 3rd and grab Kelly in the first. If he is still there, teams behind us will want him. He is a rare back, and it more because he is three dimensional. He can run, catch out of the backfield, and is a very good blocker. I would be shocked if he is not gone in the top ten. I agree RB's should rarely go in the first round, but every top 50 board I see has him in the top ten, and I believe he will be long gone when we pick.

  18. Jeremiah has him as #31 on his big board, and I have seen him at about that position consistently. I would love to trade down into the late 20's and get him and an extra pick, but draft picks are so valuable, it is tough to trade out. Everything I have read has him as a ready to go, plug him in and he can play right now. He comes from a Pro system, which most do not these days, so it is another plus. Look is it a little bit of a reach at 18, yes. In the end though, in 5 years we have a center who solidified the line, who cares he went a few picks too high. I think teams get caught at times in the first round, afraid to go after what they want and need. If we cannot trade out, grab him. If we do not, then I would say we need to seriously consider trading up in the second and hope he is still there!

  19. The speed really does not worry me. His football speed is fine, and he makes up for it with instincts. This hybrid safety/LB role is growing in importance. I think he would be perfect for us. It is not a good comparison, but the kid from FS, who is projected in the top 3, he played LB, CB, and safety for Florida State. Cravens would give us a little of that flexiblility, and I think he would be a really good FS, who could also shadow some of the bigger guys who line up in the slot once they get 10 yds. downfield. Definitely would be a good pick.
