  1. I believe we clinched the division today....

I expect our game next week vs. Texas will be as tough as today's was.

I think we're in for a nightmare game vs. Dallas.    They'll be playing to make the playoffs,  we'll have less motivation.   And they're hot now.   They can run and pass.    That could be a looooong Sunday.

Tennessee is almost like a bye.....

It aint over 'till it's over....

Texans can end up 10-6 if they win out.  Colts would be 9-7 if they lose out.  So, not clinched yet.   If you're assuming we beat Tennessee then we clinched because in a 10-6 tie between the Colts and Texans we would win the tie break due to record against common opponents (third tie breaker).

  2. Guys I think he may have a nerve issue in that arm. These problems of dropping balls didn't appear until he had that arm injury and now wears that brace. My son was hit in the same area playing lacrosse and it took a couple of months to get the full use and feeling back. Just my 2 cents

This.  Aging receivers lose speed and the ability to get open but don't usually lose their hands.  To put a positive spin on things -- he was at least open enough to have 6 catches today if not for the drops.  Not too bad.  Let it heal and let's get him back.

  3. I ask evert OSU fan the same thing: Why is RCU less deserving? If TCU was #3, why should they fall two spots (operating on the assumption Florida State makes it)?

To which I might ask why is TCU #3 to begin with?  Seems like kind of an arbitrary rating.  Could easily juggle any of TCU/Baylor/OSU/FSU in that spot.   Somebody had to be there last week and it happened to be TCU due, I would suppose, to strength of victory against strong opponents.  So the final week of where TCU clobbers a 2-10 team and OSU routes the a strong  #13 team 59-0 -- this certainly closes the gap between the two.  The very criteria that helped land TCU into the #3 spot works against them in the final week of the season because they played a weak opponent.

Still hard to imagine TCU above Baylor when there is a head to head loss.  Sliding OSU into the #4 spot and FSU #3 avoids the whole head to head issue between TCU/Baylor and you'd have a hard time saying OSU wasn't deserving of one of the spots.

  4. We're talking about Moncrief's great speed because he put it on display on Coby's long TD reception.....

    So, I'll add this.....

I thought Moncrief blocked TWO Washington defenders in the back on the play and I was stunned that the play wasn't called back as a result.

His speed was impressive,  but I think the Colts caught a break by not getting flagged on either illegal block.

I was worried about a penalty too -- especially on the first guy.  He just reached in from behind and grabbed his shoulder which turned and slowed him down a bit.

  5. Since 2007, 3 of the 5 teams that led the NFL in YPG & PPG have reached the Super Bowl. Colts lead both categories.

And what does this have to do with Ohio State?   :)  haha.  Actually this is the only post in the thread that is related the thread topic so far -- and a nice encouraging stat too.

  6. You know everyone is all down on trich honestly I like the kid you guys expect to much out of him so what if he was takin third, the good thing is he's still young our oline is still young andrew is still young we are still building that monster but since we keep making the playoffs everyone expects it to be now look at lynch he was not all ways beast mode his ypc wasn't all that his first couple of years in he had to learn an be patient an the only reason why I say lynch because they have similar game an I do believe trich helps a lot in the passing game when defenders are eying him They don't look like that when boom Donald or Vick is in there wait but all I'm saying is wait because it always better to polish your own jewels get the blood sweat tears an memories instead of a flash in the pan

Wondering why you chose this spot for punctuation?

Just kidding.  Welcome to the board.

  7. Pretty sure Richardson had 11 TDs as a rookie. Plenty of shots you can take at him, but that's pretty weak...

I took that quote to suggest that maybe he never jumped into the stands when he scored his 12 TDs his rookie year.  More of a reaction to Trent saying that he Browns fans still love him and he would treat them by jumping into the stands next week (something he didn't do as a Brown).   That's the way I took it, but I could be way off.

  8. Yeah, Iv'e defended Trent long enough.  I said I'd give him halfway through the season and reserved judgment for a few more weeks since he's hot and he's cold.  But at this point, there's just no defending him.  When literally every RB you have does better, in generally teh same formations and whatnot, there's no debate left to be had.  I don't know if Boom is the answer or not.  I want to get a bigger sample to look at, but clearly, Trent isn't going to be that guy going forward for us.  He has a place on the team, sure.  It's just not as a feature back.

Welcome aboard!  We've been patiently awaiting your arrival here in reality.  :)

I would remind you of the bashing you tossed toward anybody who expressed the opinion you've come to -- but I can't argue with you because your avatar is just too adorable :D

  9. I'll admit I was a little disappointed when he was traded but it's in the past. Easy to say it was a mistake now, but at the time everyone was glad he was gone.

Not everybody.  He was playing pretty good in the Colts new 2012 defense.

His pass rushing productivity (PRP a PFF formula) was better than both Mathis and Freeney in 2012 with the Colts.  His run stop % was better than Mathis and more than double Freeney.

    Pass Rush snaps, PRP

    Hughes: 225, 9.4%

    Freeney: 414, 8.8%

    Mathis:  283: 8.4%

    Presssures [sacks, hits, hurries]

Hughes: 27 pressures in 225 pass rush snaps (12.0%) [4 sacks, 6 hits, 17 hurries]

Freeney: 47 pressures in 414 pass rush snaps (11.4%) [5 sacks, 9 hits, 33 hurries]

Mathis: 29 pressures in 283 pass rush snaps (10.2%) [8 sacks, 5 hits, 16 hurries]

    Tackles on running plays:

    Hughes: 22 in 257 run snaps (8.6%)

    Mathis: 18 in 243 run snaps (7.4%)

    Freeney: 9 in 227 run snaps (4.0%)

  10. He goes to Buffalo and has average success ...   Playing with Mario W and M Darius.     his sack numbers are ...ok..   the rest...    mehhhhhhhh...

Hughes led the league in pass rush productivity in 2013 (15.4%, Robert Quinn was second at 15.3%, for reference Robert Mathis was 11.2%)

    Hughes in 2013:  59 QB pressures (11 sacks, 9 hits, 39 hurries)

What part of that is mehhhhh?

  11. That's two weeks now that the Colts have intentionally dumped a couple simple passes to Reggie at the end of the game just to extend the streak.  Once against the Bengals when Reggie was injured (and dropped three balls presumably due to the injured elbow) and again today in an otherwise kneel down situation.

I love Reggie and I like the fact the streak continues, but it kind of cheapens it the way they've been keeping it alive.  I'm a bit surprised the coaches are doing that, but I have to think they wouldn't be forcing it if the game was on the line.

Does anybody know how close he is to breaking a record?

  12. Honestly,  I don't think Trent's job is in trouble.    I think he's lost his starting job.    I think Boom starts and gets about 60% of the load....   and I think Trent is the back-up getting the other 40%.

Boom started today.    I don't see a reason for him not to start in the future until he either loses the job, or Trent takes it from him.... (which I don't see happening...)

The Colts have split carries between two backs all year.  The notion of "starter" is almost insignificant.

  13. not as much as people are talking about?  We all know he deserves to get paid and is already one of the best QBs in the game.  Would 6 years for 90 million be something we try and something he would take instead of a 20 million plus a year contract.  He is a great team player and signing for less would allow other extensions like Hilton's and Allen's while still building a contender.  Just something I was wondering.  Although I would love to see a 6 year 72 million contract...but I don't think he'll sign that low.

  14. I hope not. We need players that stick, not someone we can just dump when we need space, then if the space we filled doesn't work out, we bring him back. How is this monster supposed to be built if we're doing things like that?

No matter how the monster is built there will always be a #5 WR on it.  Whalen was reasonable in that role.  Nobody's saying he was a star or irreplaceable.  But he was reliable, competent, and even pretty good after the catch  if/when needed.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's with the Colts again sometime this year or next (or on another NFL roster).

  15. He didn't fit in the Pagano/Manusky System once why would it be any different now?

Hughes doesn't get enough credit for the job he did in 2012 in Pagano's defense.

His pass rushing productivity (PRP a PFF formula) was better than both Mathis and Freeney in Pagano's 2012 defense.  His run stop % was better than Mathis and more than double Freeney.

    Pass Rush snaps, PRP

    Hughes: 225, 9.4%

    Freeney: 414, 8.8%

    Mathis:  283: 8.4%

    Presssures [sacks, hits, hurries]

Hughes: 27 pressures in 225 pass rush snaps (12.0%) [4 sacks, 6 hits, 17 hurries]

Freeney: 47 pressures in 414 pass rush snaps (11.4%) [5 sacks, 9 hits, 33 hurries]

Mathis: 29 pressures in 283 pass rush snaps (10.2%) [8 sacks, 5 hits, 16 hurries]

  16. This is a very interesting phenomenon. I remember coming to this forum when Dwight Freeney was cut. And there was hardly a comment at all about it. Whether we all knew it was going to happen or not, the fact that the guy was, at the time, the best colts DE in terms of sacks. I'd never seen so little regard or respect for someone that provided such significant impact to this team. Yet when this guy gets cut, three pages of objections, lamentations and love pour out to him, which is so wonderful. But, really, what did he actually do at ANY time FOR the Colts organization to warrant such adulation? And why was Dwight's departure given so little attention by the fans here? I'd really love to see some logical explanations for that one.

Freeney wasn't cut.  Everybody knew he wouldn't be back and he was honored by not cutting him when he probably wasn't worth the $18M he received that last year - kind of a farewell tour for him that last season.  It was already accepted that he wouldn't be resigned and there was no surprising moment when he went to SD for fans to show up in a shocked huff.  You must not have been around to see the respect rightfully paid to Freeney in the time leading up to it and mistook the lack of reaction once he was gone as disrespect.

Regarding Whalen.  You're way overstating the tone of the thread here.  No real outrage and no gushing love, just some discussion while we await the game tomorrow.  So your comparison is apples and oranges.

That's my attempt at a logical explanation.  I hope you loved it.

  17. Very nice analysis.

    - Game ball to Fleener

    - Bradshaw's drop on the first play of the 2nd quarter was huge.  Scoring on that drive and taking a lead 10-7 could have set momentum.  Not sure it would have mattered with the run defense the way it was but a lead and momentum could have set a different path for the game.

    - Agreed on the inconsistent calls in the secondary.  BB had to be thinking to himself.. "really, they're not going to call illegal contact.. Wow, let's keep doing it!".  Maybe I just don't understand the subtlety in the rule.
