  1. This is a joke right? In the "general vicinity of Bradys head/neck"? Freeman put his face mask squarely in Bradys numbers. It was a horrible call. And if it has been anyone on the Pats hitting Luck that way with a penalty call I'd say the same thing.

Agreed.  It was a horrible call and another case of Mike Carey saying something like "it's absolutely a penalty as he lead with the crown"... and he says this at the same time the super slow motion is clearly showing that he *didn't* lead with the crown.  This Carey guy is  a total clown, I really hope he is dropped.

On a similar note, didn't the hit on Studebacker seem like an illegal blindside block.  Simms kept commenting about what a great legal block it was.   Maybe I don't understand the rule on that call, but I've seen it called on hits where the blocker is further out in front than Bolden was on that block.

  2. I hate Wilson, but who won the game for their team and who is going to the Super Bowl now two years in a row.  Wilson fixed at the end what needed to be fixed and won the game.  Luck needs to fix it and win the game.

Just ridiculous.  The Seahawks punter throws a touchdown pass.  Seahawks recover an onside kick or the game is over.   Clinton-Dix drops a 5th interception or the game is over.    Lynch rushes for 157 yards caring the team down the stretch.   But yeah, *Russell* won the game with his almost single digit passer rating -- as if the rest of the team was irrelevant.

  3. I'll challenge the idea that the Trent we have is the Trent the Browns had.    He's not.    He's not close to the same guy.

And I'll post video of Trent as a Brown,  and you'll see that Indy has never had THAT Trent Richardson.    I don't know why,  but we haven't.

Here's the video of Trent in his rookie year:    We never got that guy....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPePybIEkbM

He's not as good as he was with the Browns but he's not that far off either.   If you watch his other 260 rushes with the Browns (instead of just the 12 on the youtube highlight reel) you'll see a Trent that's similar to what you see with the Colts.

One of the first things I did after the trade was to watch all 18 Browns games on NFL rewind.  You can watch an entire game focusing on one player in about 15 minutes.  Watching only the highlight reel is very deceiving.

  4. Just wanted to talk to the diehard fans a second before the madness begins.

Because 24 hours from now, the world will be scratching its head trying to figure out just how it is we are headed to the Super Bowl.

Not to nitpick, but 24 hours from now we'll be watching the 3rd quarter.

  5. If we're stuck with his salary (no team willing to trade), then I'm fine with keeping him around next season -- at least through camp.  He wasn't good by any stretch of the imagination but he had a few decent/good games and wasn't terrible like last year.

He still has some utility in pass protection and when getting the ball in space.  He'll be in a contract year next season.  If that doesn't motivate him to lose significant weight and work hard in the off season then he's probably done.  I'd be curious to see if he can show anything in camp if he's able to lose ~20 pounds and in a contract year.  However, I don't think there's any chance of him being with the Colts after next year.

  6. I still expect to see him back next year.   Greater then 10,000 yards and 94 TD passes in the last two years -- let that sink in -- he still produces at a high level.

He was clearly injured down the stretch and not playing as well.  He'll heal during he off season and be back next year I bet.

  7. I didn't feel the crowd was booing Peyton as much as they where booing the fact that they weren't pushing the ball farther down field on the last drive.   There was some great tackling by the Colts to limit those plays to minimal yardage -- the same plays that the Broncos broke for good yardage though the past couple of years.  Credit to the Colts for stuffing plays that has often worked for the Broncos before.

  8. After Cj anderson got hit behind his own like by three colts players on 4th and one, he somehow broke free and got the first down. Did anybody see chuck pagano Im almost 95% sure he threw his head set to the ground yelling Some profanity. I LOVE THAT FIRE!

I think Pagano was out on the field calling nonsense on the encroachment penalty against Phillips too.  He was fired up :)

  9. Ill be the first to say so nobody else has to, "Hopefully Richardson isn't feeling better at gametime".  Give all the snaps to Boom!  Im being sarcastic, but just curious how many other people will same something similar...

Trent's best game as a Brown came in week 2 of his rookie season vs. the Bengals.  His best game as a Colt (IMO) was against the Bengals this year.  Something about the Bengals.

  10. I just don't buy that he was "exposed" in the NFL. This guy ran circles around talented backs like Lacy and Ingram. He was electrifying.

    Career stats at Alabama:

    Ingram -------- Rushing: 573 / 3261 5.7 YPC, 42 TD    Rec: 60 / 670  11.2 AVG  4 TD

    Richardson -- Rushing: 540 / 3130 5.8 YPC, 35 TD    Rec: 68 / 730  10.7 AVG  7 TD

Very similar production for Ingram/Trent at Alabama.  Lacy averaged 6.8 YPC on 355 rushes (30 TD).  Good numbers all but it doesn't look like Trent ran circles around them.

  11. This is similar to the onside kick against the Texans.  They saw a vulnerability to the onside kick (Texans) or fake punt (Cowboys) and allowed Pat to make the call if the opportunity presented.    Pat executed perfectly both times (a very nice pass by the way).

It's reasonable to argue, as some have on this thread, that the risk of failure outweighs the benefit of success no matter what.  The same could have been said about the onside kick too -- but the reaction to that was mostly positive as I recall.  If Dewey catches it I bet the reaction is more like the onside kick.

  12. I typed "OMG" because I knew immediately, before the flag even came out.

Same here.  I immediately thought "OMG, turn around and celebrate with your teammates -- don't blow it with a taunting penalty". Then came the flag.  I love the emotion but celebrate with your teammates.

  13. The point I was trying to make in the OP wasn't so much about having cap space -- but the possibility that all 4 could hit unrestricted FA in the same year and be available to other teams (with only one tag to use).  To prevent that I was wondering if we might start to think about extending a few of the contracts this off season -- and who might be considered first for an extension?

  14. For the record,  here's the graph that's in DW49's link.....

    Round  Year 1  Year 2  Year 3   Year 4   Year 5

    1           99.7% 93.5%  83.9%  77.4%  71.0%

    2           96.8% 96.1%  83.9%  74.2%  41.9%

    3           96.9% 75.1%  62.5%  37.5%  18.8%

    4           91.4% 74.3%  54.3%  34.3%  17.2%

    5           81.1% 56.8%  37.8%  24.3%  16.2%

    6           70.2% 57.5%  35.3%  20.9%  10.6%

    7           58.3% 45.8%  31.3%  21.7%  16.7%

This is interesting data.  And this only shows the percentage that are still with the team after each year, so some would still be in the league but with other teams.

That year five mark is where some players may be leaving as unrestricted free agents.  Interesting data points to me:

    - Big drop from 2nd round to 3rd round in year five (41.9% vs. 18.8%)

    - Not much difference between 3rd round and 7th in year five (18.8% vs. 16.7%)

    - Not much difference at all between 3rd through 7th in year five.

    - Odd anomaly in round 6 in year 5.  Much less than the surrounding values.

  15. I'd bet the Colts would like to retain the top four from the 2012 draft -- Luck, Hilton, Fleener, and Allen.  I'd sure like to see it happen.

They're all under contract through the 2015 season and Luck's 5th year option would clearly be picked up if needed.   However I'm wondering if they might have to start extending some contracts this off-season so that they don't all hit unrestricted FA status after next season (excluding Luck who could potentially be unrestricted in 2017 with the 5th year option).

    - Luck:  They will clearly resign Luck.  They have the 5th year option and can use the franchise tag after that if he's not extended earlier.  However, Luck is a player that would still get offers from other teams even with the franchise tag.  I'm sure many teams would be willing to part with 2 first round draft picks to sign Luck.  If the Colts let it get to this point the offers from other teams could get out of hand and could end up costing the Colts a lot more to match a ridiculous offer vs. extending him to a good offer earlier.

    - Hilton: If he continues to produce and is injury free you'd probably see the franchise tag used for him in 2016 if he's still unsigned (assuming Luck is already extended or on his 5th year option with the 2017 franchise tag available for him).

    - Allen and Fleener:  If they are both unsigned before 2016 and Hilton is tagged, then these two will be free to sign anywhere.  It would be expensive to sign them both because FA tends to inflate salaries as teams compete to sign them.

I think offering a few long term extensions this off-season might be needed (maybe Luck or Hilton and one of Fleener/Allen).  I'm curious if others have opinions on how/when/if all four get resigned.  Getting these four signed to reasonable fair market value contracts might be Grigson's biggest challenge yet.
