  1. Turnovers are great but it's nice if you get them and also can make stops without getting them too, like this years Niners. Living and dying by the turnover can be very dangerous. Like the Pats of the last two seasons. The Packers of this year. The Saints did it in 2009 though......

packers did it last year too. turnovers helps at least get u to the sb, like it helped us in 09.

  2. Not enough competition in the AFC lately to me. Some new blood has got to get going to make things interesting again.

The NFC team who has made it out of the NFC just has seemed more battle tested to me.

yea houston might become one of those teams as well as the ravens and cin.

  3. The Pats probably faced a few above average/good/great etc. QBs this year. Ben....who they lost to. Eli twice......who they lose to. They always beat Rivers. When the Bills were hot they carved em up too.

The Packers actually got by some good QBs this year in Brees/Stafford etc. but they had to outscore them to do it.

Both the Pats and Packers Ds were dreadful and historically bad in the passing D. I feel they were both worse then some D's Peyton had. Turnovers are nice but you can't always rely on them vs. the good QBs.

Guys it's okay, Peyton can take some blame at SOME times. Gosh.......

turnover are actualy a great stat. Teams that can cause a lot of turnovers usually do get them against the great qbs and usually they do go on to win the sb or at least get to it.

  4. This Pats D IMO was simply awful.. They did get it together for the playoffs but they were playing Tebow and Flacco. I felt Eli was ripe to have a few moments vs. them. The Giants played better competition I felt in the NFC playoffs with the Packers and Niners; one being the biggest test offensively and one defensively.

The NFC IMO will probably win the SB again next year. They are the stronger conference and have been in recent years.

Imo, the afc has had the strongest best teams in the league, the colts pats and steelers. but the nfc over the last few years had had more top tier teams in their conference (like 5 or 6 really good teams)

  5. I see your point. I don't even think Peyton ever had a D as bad as this years Pats D though. It was the worst in the AFC....switched places actually in the last week with the Packers when the Packers let the Lions wrack up the yards and points they did. Packers and Pats had the stud QBs all year but the horrible Ds.

Probably wishful thinking by many to have had a Packers/Pats SB. I thought one might get there but both....no way. No way would the two worst Ds in the league both make the SB.

the stats were misleading though. while both defenses gave up yards they didnt give up a ton of points. the scoring defense was actually average. and the defenses would always make the key turnover to end the game. both teams were tops in generating turnovers.

  6. I guess i'm the opposite. I respect his game more now getting that team and D to the Super Bowl. It reminded me of what Peyton has had to deal with for years here.

conpletely agree. I never considered brady a hof till more recently. Brady can lead the offense like he never could before.

  7. I would probably take Brady in those SB winning runs believe it or not. There was something about him I liked better in those years when he was part of the team instead of being THE team at times, it went beyond the stats and numbers. He had more of the "it" factor IMO then. Kinda like how Eli did in this postseason.

I look at intangibles even more then numbers at times.

personally id rather have brady now. like you said, in the early years he was just part of the team, nothing that special. But in recent years he has developed into a real star qb that doesnt need a system or great hc or great d to always win. Now brady can be the reason the pats win.

  8. Pm had way better players to work with too don't forget that.Deon Branch,a list of halfway Rb'sBrady never had PM's weapons or anything close yet has 2 more rings and more appearances by far.If you are too give the QB credit foe winning rings you must also give him the opposite for not winning,Sorry Pm boy

brady had a core of recievers who excelled in the system they ran. Those recievers would always make the catch and would almost never get manhandled during the playoffs. Since 2007 brady has had more talent offensively than manning ever had (the second best wr ever, the greatest slot reciever ever, and possibly one day the greatest te ever). Since 2007 and spygate has brady won anything even with that offense? No, because football is a team sport and the d isnt what it used to be in the playoffs.

  9. So does Brady deserve any credit for being a part of those SB wins? Did he do anything in any of those wins to help the team win?

I think we all are too big of homers here at times........

yea he does. but that first win he got completely carried. the second win he did a great job. the third win was partly him, but the defense also humilated the eagles offense.

  10. Are you serious?3 Sb titles,5 appearances>2 SB appearances 1 win

you realize that football is a team sport right? brady only won sbs during spygate, with the greatest coach ever, with an amazong d, and terrific special teams. Let's not act like brady didnt have amazing help to win those superbowls.

  11. I don't think Peyton is a great big game QB. It is not something that I love to say but it's the truth to me. He is consistent and and all time great though. His little brother is a clutch big gamer though in two SB runs. This wasn't even a great Giants team either that won the SB this year or in 2007 but they pulled it together and Eli contributed with big plays when needed in road playoff games in hostile environments and in both SB wins.

It's not always about the numbers. It's about making those key plays on offense sometimes to ice the game or get the much needed score in a big game.

i like eli but in both sbs he threw two passes that should have been ints on the final drives. The first sb, that was just a miracle play, a tremendous catch and in the last sb it was a pretty good throw but it was an amazing catch.

  12. Montana has the best playoff stats. Hence why he had 4 sb wins. But he also had a great playoff d. a solid special teams. And the goat wrs. And manning's playoff stats arent bad and some of those ints hit the recievers in the hands and they just dropped them (see ne games and charger games).

  13. top ten defense in scoring in 02,05,07,08,and 09 yet 1 SB win.Sorry your theory don't fly.

during those seasons we were undefeated for most of it, so what is your point? Our defense and our special teams failed in the playoffs.

  14. Sometimes you also just open up with the wrong opponent. With the Steelers....bad timing in 2005. They fell short the year before and were hitting their stride. In many ways the Steelers looked like this years Giants knocking off the well rested and offensively powerful Packers also who had a son die on the coaching staff. (but our D was better then this years Packers was)

And SD a few times for the first game was also a bad matchup.

yea match-ups were huge. i think anytime we had to go against a top 10 offense we got smoked. and our special teams always wre especially bad in the playoffs, those charger games with our special teams gives me nightmares.

  15. I don't think so,check the stats.Funny how you left out the fact they didn't score in that game or the games in NE Pm was outplayed in and they got whomped.

lol we did check the stats. maybe u should? and like i said, peyton wasnt the goat at that point, but the recievers did certianly get manhandled in some of those games.

  16. And if the defense was better we probaby would have won more. but i dont put it all on d the receivers sometimes would get manhandled or make key drops. sometimes the o-line was just horrible and early in manning's playoff career he wasnt the goat.

  17. Colts were always top 10 in scoring D before about 2005,but PM lovers seem to forget that.I love PM too but to say it was the defense fault they didn't win more than one is misleading.

that's not true at all. only in 2002, were they top 10 in scoring d. They were seven.

  18. I think we could've gotten a historic bounty for Luck. What the rams got for the rights to RGIII from Washington is crazzzzzzy!

Even without Manning or Luck this team could have an amazing chance to build up youth in every position, not just QB

I think we will regret not trading Luck's rights. Obviously time will tell

i completely agree. Our team would have been rebuilt in one move and the next three years would have set us for the next 15. Oh well...I guess it's time to be mediocre for a while.

  19. I don't know...thats a really tough AFC East. I think Tebow will get traded to the Jaguars IMO. The Jaguar owner wants to sell tickets....and a Tebow/MJD running attack would be scarier than the one in Denver. Still doesn't mean Peyton goes to Denver but with their cap space...possibly getting another draft pick for Tebow and the weak AFC West and John Elway in charge who knows how to prolong the end of a career and could read Mannings mind sounds pretty realistic.

the afc east is actually one of the weaker divisions in football and has been for a long time. if peyton goes to the dolphins i can see him doing well there. Two games against the pats, but the dolphins play the pats close every game without manning. jets have a bad qb and are very disfunctional atm and the bills are still a joke. I think you're right about tebow to the jags. it makes sense for both teams.

  20. Oh for Pete's sake, let the Manning threads stay in the Colts forum. Technicalities be darned. (not directed at mods)

    agree lol.

and to add to what i said earlier, there is a mystery team about to jump into the manning sweepstakes. It might be sf, since the deal they gave to smith is not good enough for him apparently, so if sf gets involved, id vote for sf.

  21. Miami. SF actually has a contract offer on the table for smith. smith hasnt accepted it yet so i dont think sf is a dark horse. arizona just doesnt gave a good enough o-line but i could see fitz being very persuasive. houston hasnt been mentioned at all as one of the teams contacting manning so they are out. i think it's down to az, denver, kc, and miami. whoever does the best job of making manning feel at home is where he will go. manning's love to play qb in a comfortable environment > his desire to win sb, not saying they are mutually exclusive however.
