  1. No.... most teams didn't have 35 million in dead money with about 20 legitimate players under contract going into the (March) free agent period. With limited cap money and only one draft it was virtually impossible to fill the holes. Not too many teams needed 2 corners and safety in the worst way and did not sign one free agent or draft one player in that area. Polian left this team void of talent. Luckily we have what could be a great QB and have ample cap room starting 2013. Give it two years and we can be a good team again.

    Tom Zbikowski? :hmm:

And we don't really know what we needed, yet. For all anyone knows, we are just fine at CB with Powers and Thomas/Rucker as starters. It may turn out that our runningbacks or our linebackers are the weak links of this team. Who knows? I'll reserve judgement on areas we needed to address when I see the players that are on this team perform on the field next season. Tangible evidence, not offseason sausage.

And I stand by my comment that every team will have holes next year. Every single team. There are no 1980's 49ers or 1990's Cowboys anymore.

  2. heck, none of us know, and the injury factor will always show something. i'll still go with:

LT castonzo, the most athletic and best feet

LG mcglynn, coming out of pitt who always produce great linemen

C shipley, great leverage and strength

RG olsen, an interior mauler, iowa guys always tough

RT justice, great size, wingspan, usc product who was let go due to cap problems

It would be something if Shipley even makes the team, let alone starts.

  3. Welcome to today's NFL. Every team from the in the league, from the New York Giants to the St Louis Rams, has question marks where they'll need someone to "step up".......or positions where a single injury will weaken the team.

We're in no different position than anyone else.

  4. We should beat the Texans at least once this year, since we have beat them at least once every year of their existence.

Exactly. I don't think it's possible to own a team as much as the Colts have owned the Texans. Last year they had the best team they've ever had, and we had the worst team we'll ever have.....and they could STILL only manage a split.....lol

The Texans have about a decade's worth of makeup work to do before I EVER consider them on equal footing.

This is the Colts fan favorites bracket. I tried doing this a couple of days ago, and I just did it way too quickly, leaving out some players. Now, I've taken my time, and I believe I've got everyone down. Now, it's between 30 players, not 32, and Peyton Manning + Johnny Unitas have first round byes. Oh and by the way, don't think Manning is going to win easily; we did this a few years ago and he didn't win, Marvin did. Plus, he's with another team which is rubbing some people the wrong way. You can vote by just writing down the players you like from each matchup or replying and bolding. Either is fine.

    Have fun!

  6. Guess who else lost to NO last year? Plenty of teams.

Wins/Losses are immaterial. You are claiming some elite defense. I proved you wrong by pointing out the fact that the one elite offense you faced last year, destroyed your defense.

Peyton Manning would have been beaten even if he had been playing.

Dan Orlovsky beat you last year, for Christ's sake. Had Manning played the first game he would have beaten you like he always does. Fortunately for the Texans, they only have to chalk up one loss to Manning this coming season, instead of the usual 2.

The worst division is going to be ours for a very long time now.

Laughable statement considering how old your offensive core is getting and how injury prone they are. Your window is about 3 years max, and it started last year. And unfortunately for you this coming season, every team in the division has improved from last year (when you won the division by 1 game), and you actually have to play a tough schedule this year, unlike the 31st ranked schedule you had last year.

Time to hang it up, junior. You're losing.....badly. Best just to tuck tail and run back to the Bull Pen, with at least a tiny bit of dignity left.

  7. lmao! Dude are you kidding me? So I'm the one who knows nothing about Colts football, huh? Well it seems that you know nothing about Texans football. DeMeco Ryans played, yes, but he was not the same player he was pre-injury. He did not have that much of an impact in our defense, like, at all. Mario Williams was gone before the first half of the season was over, and everyone else stepped up. That is why we are the number 2 defense in the league right now lol. This skeleton of a defense is going to tear that line up and get to Luck in both games, Houston and Indianapolis. You are in for a rude awakening, my friend.

Too bad your defense won't be playing the 2nd easiest schedule in the league again this year, as you did last year. Here are the offensive rankings of the 10 teams you beat last year:

    Ind - 30

    Mia - 22

    Pit - 12

    Ten - 17

    Jax - 32

    Cle - 29

    TB - 21

    Jax - 32

    Atl - 10

    Cin - 20

You beat one....ONE....top 10 offense. And they were at the fringe of the top 10. What happened last year against the one top offensive team you played.....New Orleans? You gave up 40 points and 450+ yards, and that was WITH Mario Williams.....lol

Quit acting like the Houston Texans defense is some established juggernaut. It's not.

So take your one division title that you got handed to you on a silver platter via the perfect storm of Peyton Manning being injured, your joke schedule, and our division being the s h i t t i e s t division in the league consisting of 3 teams that are rebuilding and you......shut your piehole.....and leave.

  8. LOLOLOL

None of this has anything to do with existing chemistry and Luck. Talent trumps all. Luck and Fleener were high picks. Whalen is a long shot.

Those two points aside, keeping 6 WRs is a stretch. I doubt Whalen beats out Brazil, but that's just me. Whalen makes the roster if a WR tears an ACL or has some other season ending injury.

We have no proven commodity at RB. I think Ballard likely will get a shot to start at some point. But keeping only 3 with no FB would be a mistake, IMO. 4 makes plenty of sense, especially with a rookie passer who we want to acclimate to the NFL. No sense trying to throw 40+ passes a game when they're still going to be figuring the offense out.

    This.

Whalen was undrafted for a reason.

  9. 4 rbs, 1 fb and 5 tes? I seriously doubt it. 10 OL? I seriously doubt it. Only 3 safeties? I seriously doubt it.

And, to emphasize what others have already said, how does Reitz go from starting LG to not making the roster, while Hayworth Hicks and Stephen Baker DO make the roster?

  10. and by the way Drayton Florence is a starting conerback in this league he was a 3 year starter for the bills and started for the jags and a 2 year starter for the chargers so i say we take a chance on Florence who is a starting cb

Yeah, seriously. He's more of a starting corner than anyone on our roster right now.

This would be a no-brainer FA signing if we can get him.

  11. Mike MCglynn a back up only played in 18 games in his 4 year career, Seth Olsen 9 games, what I mean is the O Line has alot to prove still I meant backups AT Guard because thats what they primarily were, we needed a Guard in the draft, preferably Brandon Washington in the later rounds

I don't believe either of those guys are projected to start, though. As compared to last year, we'll have the same starting LG this season as last season (Reitz), and depending on whether or not you think Ijalana will be an upgrade from Diem - 10 starts / Pollak - 5 starts / Tepper - 1 start (personally I don't think the Diem/Pollak/Tepper hodgepodge set the bar high at all), RG is where we would potentially be much improved from last year. Most people also would probably think Reitz will be better this season as last season was his first as a starter and he has yet to reach his ceiling as a football player.

That being said, I am in agreement that I would have liked to see us draft a guard in the first half of the draft. I was one who wanted Corby Glenn with our 2nd round pick.

  12. Offensive Line:worse How can you go from a pro bowler at center to back ups and Guard and be better? we may be better at the run but I have questions about pass protection

Jeff Saturday wasn't a pro bowler last season. He's being replaced by a younger player who started 15 games last year for the Raiders and who, quite frankly, was a better football player than Saturday was in 2011. What does this sentence even mean: "How can you go from a pro bowler at center to back ups and Guard and be better?"

  13. yes ignoring all that defensive talent was the way to go especially for a punt returner and a 7th round quarterback that wont likely be on the roster come the start of the season and likely way before that lol

Yeah, kick returners never have any kind of impact on a game. And we've always been strong there, so we certainly didn't need one of those. :loco:

And we would have built a real monster defense if only we would have used the last pick in the entire draft on a defensive player.....lol

I think you've been Polianized in that you think that a good defense can be built using late round picks and undrafted free agents. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of draft picks each year, so we'll have to wait until next offseason and next draft in order to find talented difference makers to put on defense. This season will be used to install the 3-4 and to see which of our players fit and which need to be upgraded. And i'm fine with that.

  14. I like him too But no way he compares or replaces Garcon. Garcon plays big and is a genuine #1 or #2 wideout.T.Y. is a slot receiver who will also return kicks.Garcon can take big hits. Will T.Y. be able to take the violent nature of the NFL?

In no way, shape or form is Pierre Garcon a #1 wideout.
