  1. No, Peyton was more talented as a rookie than George ever thought about being. George had a big arm and that's about it. Peyton had more talent than George did when each was a rookie, and as each improved, Peyton widened the gap.

Clark is/was a better tight end last year and likely this year than Dickerson was a running back at that stage. Put them both in their prime then Dickerson was a better back than Clark was a tight end.. I wasn't trying to have it both ways...

In my opinion Verdin, was the only superior talent compared to the 2011 team and that was as a punt/kick returner. I addressed each segment of the team in my original post.

    No he wasn't.

Clark was hampered by injuries all year, missed 5 games, and games he DID play he was practically invisible. And this year? lol.....there's a reason he barely got a sniff of interest by any team this offseason.

QB, RB, OL, LB, DB.....all positions at which the 1991 team was superior in talent to last years team.

  2. Yes talent....

I addressed talent. Talent also leads to production. Jeff George's talent wasn't realized until he was in other places. He was horrible here. He was not all that talented. He had a strong arm, but that is not equated to talent unless you are at some local country fair in a throwing for length contest. He was as bad as any of those. Collins was more of a talent at QB during his career than George, but he had seen better days. George had the touch of Otis from Mayberry back then. He actually learned to develop that a bit over the rest of his career. So yes George was more talented than Painter/Orvovsky at points during his career. He was horrible in Indy.

Clark is a better TE now than Dickerson was a RB in 91.. Different positions, different qualifications.

So average at best lineman started multiple games in 91..> Guess what? average at best lineman started multiple games in 2011. I would still say the '11 group was more talented, your word...

Was Ronnie Lott in 91 defensive back field? Rod Woodson? No. Was anyone of Betha's level? no. Betha was the one piece that to me would give the 2011 defensive backfield the edge over the 91 group, because none of the corners are better/worse than the others.

What credentials were there on the 91 team?

You didn't like my answer/response. It's not the first time, and I doubt it will be the last. Oh well.

Yeah, I pretty much disagree with every single thing you've said. Talent level is talent level regardless of if/when it gets developed. It either exists or it doesn't. Using your rationale, Peyton Manning wasn't talented his rookie year.

You haven't demonstrated at all how there was superior talent in the areas that I questioned, not to mention your hypocrisy in saying that a 31 year old is past his prime (which he very well may have been. He's still infinitely more talented than the past his prime rb we started last year) but an injury riddled 32 year old is not. You can't have it both ways.

We'll agree to disagree on this one.

    Have a good day.

  3. A 2nd year George vs. Collins/Painter/Orvlosky.. PUSH

Addai/Brown > a 31 year old Dickerson & Kenny Clark 2011 Dickerson in his prime was far better than anything on last year's roster but his prime was long gone at that point.

    Wayne/Garcon/Collie > Brooks, Hester & anyone else 2011

    Clark/Tamme > the 91 Tight Ends. 2011

    2011 vs. 1991 OL 2011

    91 they ran a 3-4 vs. 2011 running a 4-3

    2011 front 7 far better than the 91 front 7 2011

DB's you are looking at another PUSH at best and if I had to pick one i'd take the 2011 group.

    Vinetari & Mcaffee over Biasuci & Stark ---- 2011

Vedin is the only hands down, no questions asked improvement over the 2011 squad.

Neither coaching staff was worth having... PUSH

GM I'll take Bill Polian over Jim Irsay or if you want to compare the sons, then Jim & Chris would get a PUSH.

That sums it up for me.

You look to be comparing production. I specifically said TALENT.....talent of the people who actually played in the games.

No way on God's green earth can you ever tell me Collins/Orlovsky/Painter are in the same galaxy as Jeff George in regards to talent. There's no need for me to read any more of your response, as you've lost all credibility with your first line.

And how on earth would you EVER say an OL that started Jeff Linchenbach and Joe Reitz consistently is more talented than 1991's line? Mike Tepper started multiple games. Quinn Ojinakka started multiple games. How can you even say that with a straight face? Same thing with a defensive backfield that started David Caldwell and Jacob Lacey? I mean, do you people even realize who actually started games for the Colts last year, and actually look at their credentials? It was laughable.

And how can you say Eric Dickerson was past his prime in 1991 at age 31, but then turn around and use Dallas Clark, a guy who was injured and older than a 1991 Eric Dickerson, as an example of the 2011 TE's being better?

    Again....talent.

  4. Hogwash.

    Double hogwash with cheese.

The problem last year wasn't talent, it was leadership....or a complete lack thereof.

    What complete and utter nonsense.

Mathis, Freeney, Bethea, Saturday, and Wayne didn't provide leadership?

The problem was talent: we had very little of it. That is why our GM was fired and a new one was brought in: to inject talent.

  5. That's debatable.

    Debate it, then.

Do a position by position analysis of last years regular starters vs 1991's regular starters, comparing talent level.

For instance, your telling me Curtis Painter is more talented than Jeff George? Joseph Addai is more talented than Eric Dickerson?

And you do realize who are regular starters were in defense last year in the defensive backfield, right?

Last year we had Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. Thats it.

Good grief. It's not even close between the two teams.

  6. From a talent standpoint, there's no doubt last years team was the worst Colt team ever.

Not only the least talented Colts team ever, but maybe the least talented NFL team ever.

Look at Polians draft record from the past 5 years if you ever want a good laugh. And yet there are still some people wanted him retained after last season.

  7. Evans is already cut, he's just a warm camp body until he HAS to go when the rosters shrink. Brown, Moore, Carter, and Ballard are the only RB's with a chance at the 53.

Like I said above, we've got 4 RB's with a chance at the 53. Brown, Moore, Carter, and Ballard. I don't see how we actively carry 4 all season, so one of those guys is gone. Brown is exempt. We're not cutting him. Smart money says we don't cut Moore, either, because he has previous experience in this offense, and with the OC. Now we're down to two. Carter, and Ballard, and quite frankly, neither guy should be cut, but it's a very real possibility that one will.

No, we will be keeping 4 rb's.

And why is Brown exempt? If he's the 4th best rb of those 4, he will be the one who gets cut.

  8. I have Chism ahead of Terrence Johnson and Brandon King, I dont have him starting of course but I thought about him as the Nickel Back

From what i've read, Johnson is much more likely to make the team than Chism.

I honestly haven't seen Chism's name mentioned a single time. Prior to camp starting, he was one of the UDFA's I thought had a shot to make the team. He still might.....i'm just saying i've seen no indication of it, as of yet.

  9. Defensively the depth chart for the first preseason game doesn't surprise me with the exception of Chism being so low, the defensive line doesnt shock me because Pagano himself thought Mookie could play Nose Tackle (I still dont think he can, he isnt the type of defensive tackle that will command alot of double teams, I wonder if coaches have questioned Mckinneys endurance in regards the ability to handle full games at his weight for a whole season, hes a big boy and we have seen that man with his shirt off its not pretty he is packin). Guys like Chapman and Justin Anderson are low because of injuries, Linkenbach has the size and strength to play Guard and with proper coaching and a solid work ethic I think he at the very least will be the best Stop Gap option with the chance to show that he can be relied on as for Reitz its clear to me he isn't a starting Guard. but like I said Pre Season week 1 so plenty of changes yet to come. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!?

Why would you be surprised Chism was so low? I don't think i've ever so much as even seen his name mentioned when reading practice reports discussing cbs.

Agree on Mookie.....I don't think he will be able to effectively man that NT position.

  10. I think there is a legit reason to be concerned because he is lighter than a typical 3/4 inside LB Never at least in pro or college played a 3/4 defense. I think IMO Angerger is a more of a fineness LB more of a chase & tackle guy as opposed to a real THUMPER with size to challenge 300 pound guards on him. I like Angerger & hope the best, but on paper I see questions that won't be answered until at the very least pre season.

If only Angerer could be 5 pounds heavier. That would change everything.

  11. I had hopes for Gallippo. Guess he just lost his focus. Maybe He will get signed to a practice squad somewhere.

I don't think it had anything to do with focus. He just doesn't have the requisite tools and/or health level to play at this level. That's why every team in the NFL passed on him in every round of the draft.

  12. They were dumped because their injury situations (and more-so their ages) didn't justify their salaries on a team which is rebuilding. The new players coming in obviously have much lower salaries and much lower ages - but they still have injury situations. The two draft picks I mentioned are actually pretty big gambles. To insist that this reflects a philosophical change, ie: "we REFUSE to have any player on the roster who we aren't 100% confident will be able to play every game going forward" is ridiculous.

If Fleener's back has a recurrence and he misses the second half of the season, or Chapman isn't ready by game one, or for that matter if Luck's leg gets hurt and he has to rebab for a year, do you honestly think that they will be released outright because of this new "philosophy". What is different is a new GM bringing in his own players. You have NO idea yet how will react when it is "his" players getting hurt. It's always a judgement call based on medical opinion, salary cap obligation, and potential. Every team goes through the same thing every year.

    Nah.

If Polian were still here, he would no doubt be trying to milk more time out of over the hill, injury prone players like Clark, Brackett, Bullitt, Brackett, etc., and probably shaping the roster so that those players would likely be thrusted into the starting lineup, even. It doesn't appear Grigson is that type of GM, and that makes some of us very happy.

Drafting players who might have been injured at some point in college has zero to do with the point i'm making here.

  13. I keep hearing people say this, and I don't get it. Yes, a couple of older players who couldn't stay healthy were released, but Fleener, Chapman, and others who I can't think of off the top of my head were brought in despite serious injury concerns. There was no philosophical change (which seems to imply that the old management preferred injured players), just a salary dump as they start to rebuild.

No, they were dumped because of their injury situations.

  14. That's true, Trav...

I didnt want to think our kicker choked..but, after making every home kick all year, he missed by 10 yards.

    That's no joke....Its a choke.

There is no question whatsoever that Vanderjagt choked.

  15. Outside of Satele that O Line scares the crap out of me

No, scary was last year's week 8 starting OL of Linkenbach-Olsen-Saturday-Tepper-Ojinnaka that we actually paraded out onto the field against the Tennessee Titans.

The OP's projected 2012 line that consists of 1 first rounder and 3 second rounders has me downright giddy as compared to the garbage OL that we'd become accustumed to under OL savant Bill Polian.

  16. I think the optimism of 7-9 months on ACL rehab is just that - optimism. I worked very close to sports medicine personnel for several years, including several NFL team physicians and the figure of 12 months to be back to 100% was pretty much the accepted number.

So that means he'll be at 100% at the beginning of October? I'll take that in a hearbeat.

My view was that he wouldn't be at 100% this entire season.
