  1. I just find it a coincidence that satele is gone, mcafee is signed, and dquell is the first colts sign instead of a wr. They refused to bench satele when mcglynn was the better center. Mcafee was considered being let go. And wr was the talk of free agent signings. Everything is going how the colts fans exactly wanted. Now it's time to fix the oline and finish filling gaps on defense. Let's just not go on a spending spree or we will end up like the saints and let go of the whole team years from now... Where in another world. Cowboys fans have been angry at jerry Jones for years for not benching romo or bothering to fix the offensive line or defense. I'm a proud colts fan lol.

Hahaha cool. But any roster moves being made by Grigson have to do with sound personnel reasoning that originated solely inside of West 56th street. The fact that some here called for these moves before they were made has more to do with the fact that we're just a knowledgeable fan base. That's all.

As for the rest regarding smart money/personnel management, I hope we continue on the path we're on. :)

  2. "...Texans defensive end Antonio Smith...has a pair of visits scheduled this week...Smith’s been a durable and productive player for the Texans, missing just one game the last five years and collecting 27.0 sacks. A solid 3-4 end, he could also project as an interior rusher in a 4-3, which gives him a better chance than some veterans in the open market." - PFT

  3. "The signing of linebacker D'Qwell Jackson on a four-year $22 million deal is just the tip of the iceberg in Indianapolis. The Colts have close to $40 million in cap space and as Jackson said he wanted to go to a team with a good young QB and a team with a chance to win now and for the next few years. I got the feeling a number of good young veterans on the free agent market are looking at the Colts as the place they want to go. I could see an offensive tackle like Monroe, a wide receiver like Decker, a safety like Byrd, and a corner like Verner in their sights when Tuesday rolls around." - Pat Kirwan

  4. Kind of makes you wonder what Arthur Jones might cost. I figured it might get up to $6 million per year, now it is hard telling.

Who would you rather overpay for? Maybe Jairus Byrd isn't such a bad option after all. At least you would be getting a consistent player with a contract commiserate with his performance.

    "Commensurate" ;)

...and I don't necessarily agree with the preface. I need pay to be commensurate with the impact that the position is designed to have in a particular scheme.

Yeah he'd be a great addition...but would that contract, given the actual impact he would/could/wouldn't/couldn't have?

I don't think so. But ehhhh....

  5. Vikings re-signed DE Everson Griffin, as @rapsheet reported. Told it's a 5-year, $42.5 million deal that includes $20 mil gtd, per source.

Griffin is a solid player but wow.

I don't know what to think. Maybe this guy is the truth but gee whiz. I try to give Speilman the benefit of the doubt. He's drafted some great players but considering the positions they've drafted them at, I would think anyone can land talent.

Aside from grabbing Favre off the scrap heap and pushing that as far as it would go, has he ever really built a championship calibre team?

I guess it might be a good signing in the long run.

  6. "...wouldn't shackle us I dont think..."

    Of course it would.

Byrd's next contract is not going to be smoke & mirrors. Whatever the number is, that IS the number. The team signing him might be able to fudge a little here & there, offset this, push that back etc, etc. But He IS going to get paid. And the team that signs him will be on the hook for a sizable portion of the big time money that will be in that contract.

So we can get into semantics here but that to me is gonna be a shackle.

  7. NFL.com says the Giants WR is willing to accept a one-year deal to show his ability and to show that past leg injuries are fine and will not be a problem for him in 2014.

Nicks is sending out letters from foot and knee doctors to all 32 teams to assure GM's that his injuries are OK.

    For a one-year deal,  I'm interested.    To a point.

    Yeah, that's interesting.

I'd bet we'd rather sign something longer. Hmmmm

  8. Antoine probably wants a pretty fair chunk of change. This will be his last contract. The CB is what has me really concerned.

He might. But I'm thinking it won't be Byrd type of hype money. I'm not too concerned about Vontae yet....we'll see how the market plays out. I know some guys are signing some high dollar amounts right now...but hopefully that'll level off. Or....hey, we draft a corner then. #Shucks

  9. GM: What are you guys looking at contract wise?

    Byrd's Agent: [Gives Numbers]

    GM: Welp, bye!

Grigson: What are you guys looking at contract wise?

    Byrd's Agent: [Gives Numbers]

Grigson: Yeah, no. Safeties are not important enough in our scheme to garner that kind of amount.

Byrd's Agent: Yeah but you need a Safety, Landry & Bethea both stink.

Grigson: Yeah, no. We like both of our guys and we like their financial impact on our salary cap as well.

Byrd's Agent: But you're cutting Toler and RJF too. You need my client.

    Grigson: Wait, what?!

    Byrd's Agent: C'mon man, he's a sexy signing. The fans'll love it.

Grigson: Some may but what does that have to do with anything? I'm trying to run a franchise here and not kneecap myself going forward. Give me a reasonable number.

    Byrd's Agent: [Gives Numbers]

Grigson: That number is ridiculous. I'm not paying a Safety that kind of money.

    Byrd's Agent: But he's young.

Grigson: So what?! So are the Safeties coming out in the draft.

Byrd's Agent: Yeah but he's a shut down Safety.

    Grigson: LOL he's a what?!

Byrd's Agent: And he can help generate pressure on the QB from your Dline. And he's a hitter too!

Grigson: Look, are you going to be serious here?

Byrd's Agent: Okay, okay, forgive me. Did I tell you about how sexy signing him would be?

    Byrd's Agent: Hello?

    Byrd's Agent: Anybody?
