NFL is a dirty dirty business

We're talking a completely different league of player (Revis) that could automatically add wins to our record.
Wait, what?!
He is a DB. Not a QB.
Not even a FG kicker. He's a DB. Sure he is pretty good but he isn't going to be 'automatically' adding wins to our schedule.
That's a wee bit of hyperbole. ;)
-
Its a deep draft for corners. At least 15 good ones are 5'11", 195 or bigger. Future pro-bowlers, maybe not, but lots to choose from.
Can't overpay for one player, ever.
"You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day."
-
Ugh. Come on...
LOL thank you. Pure nonsense!
"Per somebody; somebody told somebody else that the Colts are 'looking' at somebody!"
Uhm okay?
-
Agreed. He's not what he once was
I don't care if he is or not. I'm not paying a damned DB anymore than $8 Million.
Anything past that and you've exceeded the salary vs impact quotient (whatever that is).
I'd pay a Dlinemen. I might even pay a Linebacker. But I am not paying a CB or S anything past that EVERRRRRR.
I don't care how many people are drinking the Kool-Aid!!!! ;)
-
You wouldn't pay him over 8mil, then Revis wouldn't even sneeze in your direction
Cool. *ChuckDeuce

If he is cut Wednesday, it'll be obvious who is getting him. You'll need 15+M$ left in cap to afford him and draft pics.
I'd take him for 14 million or under
Revis for 12.5 over Vontae for 10.5... but Revis will get more than 12.5
@JasonLaCanfora: If Revis hits the market, will be an interesting case study to see how close to $16M/yr he gets. Some GMs think $12M might be ceiling
I would take him here for 13m. I don't know that Grigson would.
If we can acquire him for say 12.5m would you be happy or rather get Vontae 10.5m
No more then $13 I'd take that deal all day long tho being that he's Revis. He's perfect for our defense. Immediate superbowl favorites in the AFC if he comes to us.
I agree. I would pay $10 million for Revis. You have to feel that he would want to play for a legitimate playoff team.
If Davis signs with someone else for ~$10mil per and Revis is released, how much do you guys think it would take to bring in Revis? I doubt someone would sign him for $16mil per, but I think I would be ok with giving him $11-13mil.
He better be willing to take much less money, but I think he'll go to the Raiders since they are like a bagillion dollars under the cap.
I wouldn't pay him a dime over $8 Million.
"You've had your payday old Man. Now, do you want to win a Championship?!"
Cleveland might well be his huckleberry though. They need to placate the fan base.

I'd have no problem giving him $12M. $16M is just too much and I don't think anyone will give him that kind of money.
I wouldn't give him a dime over $8 Million.

If we can acquire him for say 12.5m would you be happy or rather get Vontae 10.5m
This isnt Bucs.com and it's not Colts related.
Wrong forum.
-
Naw he's weak sauce pass on him
He sucks anyway. Davis is way better than him.
What the hell does Davis' skill-set have to do with this clown getting cut. And who said we should look at him?
Oi....

Short of a trade in the next two days, the Buccaneers are expected to release CB Darrelle Revis by 4 p.m. Wednesday, per league sources.

March 11, 2014The answer if Vontae leaves?
-
"Still don't get the non-outrage..."
Telling.
-
Just read an article stating the Jets will "go hard" after Vontae tomorrow.
Word amongst insiders is the New York Jets are going hard after cornerback Vontae Davis.
— Tony Pauline (@TonyPauline)
March 10, 2014He'd (Davis) be a fool to sign there. Charlie Foxtrot of an organization.
-
You think grigs and co are actually that dumb...?
Don't get these people started!
Too late!
-
Now that is a possibility except I'm not sure they save anything on his salary. I think he is on the final year of his contract...its all guaranteed if I'm not mistaken...and I could be. I agree he isn't a good fit...and with that salary few places outside Oakland he would be.
Oh...well, if they're on the hook for his salary then I would be surprised to see Lovie Smith cut him. Hahaha...
-
Yes was not a fan of bringing him in last season with his history. And want him cut so he can't hurt our D this year again
Ehhh that's presumptuous conjecture.
Glad Grigson doesn't steer the ship with it.
-
Indeed...Revis is basically untradable. He is awesome...but there are few teams that could afford his contract AND could give up a draft pick (probably a first rd) to get it done. I wouldn't be opposed to Revis for a year or two...and can let him walk when we re-sign Luck....but we have nothing to offer nor should we. The only teams that could really afford Revis is TB, JAX, and OAK. Of those teams...he is best off with TB....even if they do run the tampa 2 coverage.
Yes but Tampa is NOT better off with him. His talent is sufficient for the Cover 2 Zone that they'll run. However, His salary is way overblown for the position he will be playing and the impact it is designed to have on the overall defense.
I will not be surprised if Lovie Smith cuts him.

This is the dishonest language Florio uses with my commentary in red:

"Per a league source, Davis is expected to sign a deal on Tuesday, the first day of free agency."
This is not news. It is not breaking news. And it is not indicative of Davis signing with any other team. It is simply a fact that is apparent to all.
"At this point, it likely won’t be the Colts."
He "adds" this immediately following the above 'sourced' sentence. But it is 100 percent conjecture on his part.
"The situation is fluid and dynamic and subject to change..."
"Caveat Emptor" He glibly inserts his get out of jail -for saying something purely speculative and trying to pass it off as something more than that- free card.
"...as evidenced by the fact that, as of last night, there was a report that Davis was close to re-signing with the Colts."
More equivocation.
"For now, he’s not. He’s close to signing with someone else. And he could do just that on Tuesday."
Ties it off with a nonsensical bow saying "right now" Davis isn't signing with the Colts. And that he "could" sign with someone else not right now. ;/

Maybe they think if they shore up the front 7 more that the backfield might benefit. Personally I think it will.
Spot on!
It wont unless you can find defensive linemen that can pressure QB's 500-600-700 times a season, Legit starting Corners are must, do you need elite Corners? No but you do need legit starting Corners, If you dont have those (along with no Cover Safety as well at this point....though I expect the draft will bring us 1) then good luck
Ehhhh a lot of equivocating there.
New Era is being both correct.....and direct.
-
Toler is injury prone was in AZ before we got him. If he just had a couple little injuries then I wouldn't mind keeping him but not when he is notorious for being injured.
So you acknowledge his play is fine and you simply didn't want to sign him in the first place?
Trying to figure out exactly what axe you've been grinding.
-
Welp, this makes CB our #1 need...
"IF" it is even true. Not putting a single chip into a Florio driven pot.
-
If he does go after the money there is always Verner, Cromartie, etc
Yep! The last guy on the defense who is irreplaceable is Vontae Davis. If he goes, happy trails.

I dunno. Could just be guys he knows getting dumped into Free Agency in general. Or it could be about Vontae. Who knows.
