Just watched it again for the first time in 10 years.  What struck me was how easily we ran the ball up the gut, behind Saturday, Jake Scott, and Ryan Lilja; and how active the LBs were in limiting YAC.

If you think that was impressive, you should re-watch the 2006 AFC Championship game. Saturday trucked Wilfork on Addai's game winning 3 yard touchdown to win the game. Pancaked his butt!

Yes I like this guy already lol.  He gets it! not enough people appreciated Addai.  So underrated in his years

I agree. He did not have the long speed, but he was dynamite in between the tackles. Superb quick-twitch athlete. He could create on his own, and was fantastic at keeping the defense guessing where his next step was.

Sorry BlueShoe, I should be discussing draft selections for us. I usually wait for the best & brightest on here to tell me who we should be going after. Not my strong suit. Thanks for your commentary after the order of our picks though. I like reading your insights.

"I am not against taking Barkley at No. 3 or even moving back a couple of times and taking Guice,"

    Appreciate that.

No worries. You have nothing to apologize about. Thank you for the kind words. :)

Fir whatever it's worth...   the drafted trade value chart had us picking 3rd and not 4th in R4.

They show the Colts picking 103rd and not 104th overall.    Either way, it's not a big deal, just wanted to note the difference..

(Still hoping for a RB with that 4th R pick)

Yeah. The NFL has not released anything "official" yet, so people are going off of past "commonly known" rules. At any time a new wrinkle to the rule could surface.

    I am pretty sure the Colts draft picks are set at : 3, 36, 67, 104, 140, 178, and 221.

We will see soon enough though.

I am not targeting any running back for any particular round, but some people look at it that way. I am not as big on positional value as most people are. I target the players I like, and if they are the BPA when it's time to roll, then I'd roll with them.

I am not against taking Barkley at No. 3 or even moving back a couple of times and taking Guice. I am not against using our second on Ronald Jones, Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, or Rashaad Penny. If the Colts front office like any of those players and they are the BPA on the Colts board then I am all for it.

Same thing with guards. If the front office wants to move back and take Nelson then count me in as being pleased. There will probably be some good offensive line talent in the second round too. I won't even get mad if they double up on the OL in the first and the second. There is so much interior offensive line talent in this draft that some first round talent is going to fall.

I cannot image a scenario where James Daniels, Billy Price, Isaiah Wynn, and Frank Ragnow are all off the board when we pick at No. 36. In my opinion, all of them are either first round talents or pretty close to it. I might even add Connor Williams to the list of interior offensive linemen on my board soon. Depending on his arm-length at the combine, he might get kicked inside.

I may not be thinking straight here, but why is it not pick 35 in the second round?

Tied teams "cycle picks" beginning in round 2. Houston was the only other 4-12 team, so we should alternate with them (or whoever has the pick).

    The Colts would be:

    Round 1 - Pick #3

    Round 2 - Pick #4

    Round 3 - Pick #3

    Round 4 - Pick #4

    Round 5 - Pick #3

    Round 6 - Pick #4

    Round 7 - Pick #3

Looks like Football DungeonWalter Football, and Tankathon all have it the same way:

    Round 1 - Pick #3

    Round 2 - Pick #4

    Round 3 - Pick #3

    Round 4 - Pick #4

    Round 5 - Pick #3

    Round 6 - Pick #4

    Round 7 - Pick #3

    Barring trades, the Colts picks are set at: 3, 36, 67, 104, 140, 178, and 221.

The fact that the organization are letting him openly talk this year is enough for me to be confident about his shoulder this go round

    Agreed. Love the handle too.

Reliving memories. Watching the 2006 Super Bowl replay right now. Addai had a wicked jump cut. One of the best I’ve ever seen.

  7. As expected, Colts have no comp picks this year.

Coin flip still to decide 49ers and Raiders.

    Colts are picking 3, 36, 67, 104, 140, 178, and 221.

Believe it or not the main reason why I think the 2006 Team was better than 2005 is because of Vinatieri. He is a big reason why we won at Baltimore in 2006 in the Playoffs. He was the leader of the SPTeams as well. VanderStink just reeked of being a cancer in 2005 and then he missed a 45 yard FG by a mile vs Pitt indoors to end our season.

Believe it or not, the 2006 team wasn’t better than the 2005 team. The 2005 team severely under-achieved.

The 2006 team did reach its potential and win the Super Bowl though. :)

I think what we do in R2 depends, in part, on what we do in R1.

To me our two biggest needs are pass rush and offensive line.

So if we go Chubb in R1 I'm expecting an O-lineman in R2.

And if we take Nelson in R1 then I'm expecting us to take pass rush in R2.

Not only do I agree with you for the reasons you stated, but I will take it a step further.

I think the draft is setup so that BPA will be OL in the second round. There might be a bottleneck of first round potential offensive lineman who fall to our second pick. I could also see a couple of Edge players falling too.

I would like to move back to 5 or 6 and get the extra picks, to take advantage of the stack linebackers that could also bottleneck in the early second round.

Didn't realize, they kind of feel like molasses inside but its like a combo of sand and goo or something.  No, TCB's are certainly not cheap, i have a bucket of them.

Yep. We bought them for hitting at first and then noticed other people using them for throwing. They definitely helped my son improve his arm strength. I bought a half dozen of the baseball version for my son and another half dozen of the softball version for my daughter. I have yet to see one tear up, other than the paint rubbing off of them.

TCB balls are good but they are mainly used for hitting, they won't damage the bat and they won't go sailing on you, they will go about a normal 1/2 acre back yard's worth of distance for a middle to high school player.  but they deform and absorb impact.  weighted throwing balls are like the following going from like 7 oz. to 12 oz.  I'm thinking they are using much more sophisticated weighted balls that cost more than my iphone.

TCB balls are not just for hitting. A lot of people use them for throwing.

They probably are using more sophisticated balls. It is along the same line of thinking though. TCB balls are not cheap.

If you do sign him, then check off the position and bring in a camp leg. This situation is not like the punter situation last year, which is a great example of signing a vet, bring in competition, and going with the best player. If there is any doubt in your mind that Vinny is the guy, you just don't sign him to a one year deal. Simple as that. Vinny isn't coming back to a 4-12 team to be in an off season/preseason kicking competition.

Vinny was kicking 60-yard field goals during training camp last year. Saw it with my own eyes and posted it on this board from my seat at Lucas. He was 44-years old....

This training camp he is 45-years old. Eventually, one of these "extra" years will catch up to him. His leg will lose power, and he will start missing more frequently. It can even happen overnight.

Factor in that Indianapolis is one of the best places for a young kicker to gain confidence. We play inside and away from the elements. I believe it's a main reason why we have had so much success with kickers and punters, over the years. The only bad kicker I can remember playing for us was Mike Cofer, but he was terrible before we signed him. I was baffled that we did, but that's another story.

Some might think we have been blessed with kickers, and there is some truth to it. However, I think we have the perfect breeding ground for young kickers.

We could bring in a young stud kicker who gains confidence throughout the off-season process, and he could upset Vinny. It is very possible. And there are some good young kickers in this draft too. Probably only a couple will get drafted. As usual, most of them will go undrafted. I think a young kicker with some talent will see an opportunity here to beat out a 45-year old kicker. Therefore, we will get the cream of the crop here competing against Vinny. I think it is about a 25% chance that Vinny loses too.

  13. 2 minutes ago, Larry Horseman said:

Okay. We can agree to disagree. If I were running the Colts and wanted a kicker competition, last thing I would do is sign back Vinny. You don't bring a 20+ year vet who is arguably the GOAT at his position and less than a season away from breaking an all time record to burn up his leg in a preseason kicking competition with a UDFA.

I am sure Vinny knows what he is getting himself in to. This is a young mans game. If they do not retire then they all get cut... eventually.

And BTW, Vinny himself was also once, a UDFA. :)

  14. 7 minutes ago, Larry Horseman said:

If we sign back Vinny there is no honest competition during training camp; it is Vinny's job barring injury. I'd love to bring him back for at least one more year...

I disagree completely. I am actually not sure I could disagree with you more. The only thing I agree with you about is that I think it's a good idea to bring Vinny back.

Vinny is not signing a blockbuster deal and he is at the age where he could get cut by a young up-and-coming kicker. It happens. This is the NFL.

I am not saying Vinny will get cut. However, to think he will not have serious competition during this off-season is completely wrong.

  15. When I think of weighted balls, I am thinking the weighted baseballs I use with my son. They helped build up his arm strength and also helped him hit with power. I attribute using these weighted balls as an important reason he made the all star team and continues to make it every year.

If I am right, and Luck is using these weighted baseballs then you do not want to throw these with everything you have. They are intended to lightly toss around. My son and I only tossed these back and forth about 5-10 yards or so. And we make sure to have an easy throwing motion while doing so. This much weight can seriously hurt your arm if you try to sling it.

    These are what we use.

Even if his statement is true, I don't think it means indoor teams have a tougher time winning if they run a 3-4. At least, not necessarily. And I didn't take Ballard's comment to mean that, but it's obviously something that has influenced his decision making.

As for the difference in the scheme, I think the size of players in a 3-4 front is greater on average than that of players in a 4-3 front. That probably means your average 4-3 plays faster. Good offensive teams are probably faster/better indoors, which might mean less effective defense from a 3-4 indoors. But, teams play so much nickel now that it kind of doesn't matter.

Still, I think his objective on defense is to get faster, but still play tough physically. Not undersized, as a matter of fact, he seems to like bigger DBs, but he definitely wants more speed up front. So do I.

I gave this a lot of thought when he said it too. It was an odd comment, especially when he said it wrong the first time and I think it was Kravitz who said something like “the Steelers come to mind”. That’s when Ballard corrected himself and said “indoor” 3-4 teams.

The first thing that came to my mind was bigger players in the 3-4 vs not as big players in the 4-3. It’s not like the bigger players has helped us with injuries. Which is the reason I wanted to move to it in the first place.

We have to find the right balance. I am fine with the 4-3 as long as we don’t use 5’8” corners on the outside and 5’10 195 pound safeties attempting to bring down 230 pound backs.
