    For what it's worth...

If the Colts go somewhere between 6-10 and 8-8 then our draft slot is likely going to be somewhere between 10-16...

We should keep that in mind as we start to target top talent...

I am a little more optimistic. IF Andrew Luck is healthy.... And that’s a big IF....

Then I think we are going to win 10 games, possibly the division, and maybe even a playoff win. I have us picking 25 right now.

  2. I think Navarro Bowman’s best days are behind him. Plus, he doesn’t fit a 4-3 Tampa2 scheme. He is better suited for a 34 defense or hybrid.

Think Morrison.... Not suited for this defense.

Since we are talking about 2019, I’m going to bring up the idea of drafting Trey Adams next year and giving us a Frederick, Smith, Martin type of room in Kelly, Nelson, and Adams. Then, since it’s so loaded at Edge and DL, we go that direction with both round 2 picks?

    No complaints here. :D

I love taking offensive linemen in the first round. If Trey is fully back from injury then he will go in the first round.

Christian Wilkins playing safety in Clemsons spring game was both hilarious and terrifying. A guy his size shouldn't move like that and be able to tackle in the open field. It's was amazing haha

Clemson will be amazing this year. That defensive line.  Wow. I am not sure college football has ever seen anything like it. I was very surprised when they all stayed.

The Trevor Lawrence era is also here. :D

I am calling it now. That cat is going to be a stud NFL quarterback. He is going number 1 overall.

Clemson could go undefeated with a true freshman at quarterback.

    Blue Shoe....

This is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic!   And every poster who reads this should give you a "like."

    If I may...

I'd like to respectfully offer up a small amount of disagreements...

First...   as a Stanford guy, I'd be thrilled if Love goes in the first...   But in roughly the last 20 years, no sub-200 pound running back had been taken in the first round.  And Bryce is 195.  And most think he's likely maxed out.   Guys like Reggie Bush and Christian McCaffrey are the smallest first round backs I can find and both were around 205.   That 10 pound difference on a smallish body can be huge...   So for me,  Bryce is ranked 33rd until I see the scouts I follow say he's a lock for the first...

And please believe me,  I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

And here's another area where I hope you're right and I'm wrong... Quarterback.

To me,  none of these guys feel like first rounders just yet.   Now one, or more of them may prove their worth at some point but I don't really have any feel,  any buzz for theses kids...

This QB class feels like the 2013 class that featured EJ Manuel,  Geno Smith and Mike Glennon.   Again, I hope you're right. Just like this year, the more quarterbacks taken high, the more the rest of the non-QB talent is pushed down to the Colts.

What I love MOST about your list...   are all of those D-linemen!  Tackles and ends and edge, Oh My!!   The D-line class looks historically good...  I'm expecting Ballard to use his first round pick on another top DL to continue his goal for a wave of pass rush.

Thanks again....  this was the best thing to see on the Sunday after the draft!   You ROCK!!

    :colts:

Thank you for the kind words! :)

It’s fun looking at the draft from a year out. I think we will have a defensive draft in 2019. That Clemson defensive line is unreal. There will be some better offensive tackles too.

Trey Adams probably would have gone top 10 in this draft had he not got injured. Choosing to stay might pay off for him.

I love Will Grier for teams looking for a QB

The defensive linemen are insane aswell

I believe Love will be an excellent NFL back. He is easy to scout. I like Will Grier too. However, my favorite quarterback of the bunch is Jarrett Stidham. There are a couple of quarterbacks who could possibly climb over these big dogs and get drafted first.

In all likelihood though, 1 of these defensive lineman are probably going first.

I think there could be a few really good quarterback prospects in next years draft class.

It is loaded with front seven players. Clemson might have their entire defensive line drafted in the first 2 rounds. I know that might sound crazy, but it is not really that far fetched.

  7. Below is my Way Too Early 2019 Big Board.

I have thoroughly scouted some of these prospects. However, I have tons of work still to do, and my Big Board will absolutely change over the next 12 months. This is week 1 of 52.

    Enjoy! :D

Feeling good about Nelson/Kelly/Smith (or Mewhort) in the middle of the Oline.

Million dollar question is who is our RT ?

I am thinking Haeg or Goode.

Did anyone else feel like they were watching a polian draft.  It had the same feel to me.  All high character picks.  Leaders and captains.  Speed guys. Run hit lbs.  seemed like reaches. Passing on big names etc.  I even think we found the next mike Peterson or Cato June.

Polians drafts used used to frustrate me until they started playing then I loved his picks.  I bet this draft class proves CB made the right choices.

Leaonard seems like a small school Roquan Smith.  Excited to see what he can do.

    Yes and no.

I loved Bill Polian as our GM. That said, I wish he would have spent earlier picks on the trench players. It’s the only real problem I ever had with Polian.

I have said for over a year now that Ballard reminds me a lot of Polian. I think they share many similar traits.

However, Ballard is very serious about building the offensive and defensive lines. Polian spent many early picks on skilled players.

I watched Polian pass on premium offensive line and front seven talent, even when we were in dire need. On the other hand, if Ballard feels we have a weakness on the front lines then he will not hesitate to pull the trigger with a top pick.

Just posted this in another thread. Colts ranked 31st in sacks and 22nd in rushing when we ran more to protect a young QB. There is an obvious deficiency on both sides of the line.  If we make both lines our strength we are 2 players away on each side from becoming an elite team that contends for championships.  These 4 guys can be found in another off season draft and free agency.  We are well on our way to building a team that will sustain for years and let Luck do what he needs to do. I love the start of this draft.

    That is exactly correct.

Ballard is building this team the right way, and this is the perfect trench draft to accelerate the process.

  11. Chris Ballard continues to tell us who he is, and he delivers with consistency. He told us who he was, his first day on the job. He believes in building a football team in the trenches. Yesterday he told us he had dreamed of having a draft like this, where he picked all offensive line and defensive front seven.

This is who Chris Ballard is. He believes in winning football games in the trenches.

I have wanted a Colts GM to have this philosophy for a long time. I am all in with this mentality.

Ballard is not making the flashy picks. He is making the picks that makes winning sustainable. He is getting the players he wanted and targeted.

I don't see any of his picks as reaches. His board is fairly close to mine.

You have no 2nd WR. A guy who's 1sr round talent is sitting there for you to draft immediately and make your team better and you reach on Leonard(who I like) and lose out on Sutton. Then needing a CB and with 1st round talent at a need position you reach again for a situational pass rusher. Oliver, Jackson and others sitting there. How do you make the team better by drafting reach players who are situational pass rushers. I'm baffled.

Chris Ballard dreamed of having an offensive line and defensive line draft. This draft strengths is in the trenches and Ballard attacked it. He got the guys he targeted and wanted all along.

Trading up for Lamar Jackson in the first, now there's a nutty pick.

Not if a team believes in Lamar Jackson.

If you believe he is your future quarterback then you take him in the first round to have the fifth year option.

He could be a dud or not. But it is a different conversation. I am about 50/50 on that. The Ravens will need to incorporate a spread offense him though. At least for the first few years....

  14. 8 minutes ago, Finball said:

That's if it's already determined who those first picks end up being. His staff in CLE is arguably at least as good and we don't know how much of KC drafts were on Dorsey/someone else.

My understanding is that his firing was related to his cap management, management style (more of a talent evaluator/scout than a general manager) along with some personnel moves (extending own picks with generous contracts, hard-ball stance with Houston and Berry, cutting Maclin without informing the staff etc).

Were those picks made because Dorsey is a guy who rolls the dice when he doesn't have to or because that's who their staff had as the best players in the draft after extensive research?

The Browns over-thought this and rolled the dice.

Mayfield and Ward could become good players, but I doubt many other NFL general managers (if they needed a quarterback) would have made those selections. I would be willing to bet my paycheck that nearly all of the NFL teams would have picked Darnold and either Chubb (or traded the fourth overall pick back).
