  1. Going to leave this here as well.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/03/17/free-agency-winners-often-cautionary-tales/

"It would be inaccurate to say you can’t win a Super Bowl by banking heavily on free agency.

    But it is rare.

John Clayton of the Washington Post points out that the Broncos’ generous spendinghelped them to a Super Bowl 50 title, otherwise the big winners in March seldom duplicate that success in January and February.

According to Clayton, of the 49 highest-paid players in 2016 free agency, only 14 remain on the teams that signed them. Only 22 of the top 60 highest-paid in 2017 are still with the teams that made those splashes. And last year’s unrestricted free agent class produced just two Pro Bowlers, neither of them starters (special teamers Andre Roberts and Michael Thomas, and Roberts has already changed teams again)."

  2. Been seeing a lot of talk in these threads about how our money is being spent. Why/How's/Who's? I'm going to try and break it down to show how saving our cap space now does EFFECT our 1st and 2nd year(Hooker/Leonard/Nelson)guys who WON'T be able to recieve this round of rollover $$.

So going off of spotrac salary cap numbers, 2019 + 2020:

    2019 - $74.8m(current)

    2020 - $88m(current) + rollover(look to be substantial)

    Players up for extension:

    Eric Ebron

    Anthony Castonzo

    Ryan Kelly

Kenny Moore(Probably due a big bump in pay next year $8-$10m)

Players who's deal can/most likely will be reworked:

    Andrew Luck

    TY Hilton

Lets start with remaining outside FA's/rooke pool estimation for rest of offseason:

    $20m

    2019 Cap Space:$54.8m

    2020 Cap Space

    Extensions:

    Ebron - 1yr $7m* Could offer him a 3yr $24m new deal. 2019:$10m 2020/2021:$7m

    Castonzo - 1yr $11.05m* Could offer 4yr $48m new deal. 2019/2020:$14m 2021/2022:$10m

    Kelly - 1yr $3.3m w/ 5th yr option $10.4m(extension next off-season but option picked up.)

    New Cap Space:

    2019:$48m

    2020:$57m + rollover

Reworks:(Might not be till next off-season)

Andrew Luck - 3yr $77m* Could offer him a big front loaded extension this offseason or next to bring down future yearly cap hits(Saving money for our 1st/2nd year guys when they hit FA)

    Lets go with a new 6yr $180m deal 2019/20/21:$35m 2022/2023:$25m

    2019 Cap Space:$41.5m

    2020 Cap Space:$50.4m + rollover

TY Hilton - 2yr $29.5m* Could rework deal like Luck to take bigger cap hot these next 2 years, reducing future cap hit.

    Let's go with a new 4yr $64m deal

    2019/2020:$18m 2021/2022:$14m

    2019 Inseason roster cash:$5m

    2019 Cap Space:$33.5m

    2020 Cap Space:$46m + $33.5m= $79.5m

So if things went down like this we would have most major pieces secured while using more of these next couple years extra cash, and saving future dollars for our young guys. All while sticking to your word and taking care of your own guys. Then still have $80m in cap space to go after whoever might fit next year.

Accuracy isn't an issue if A: You can't get open and B: When you are open, you drop the ball.  Funchess was Top 10 last year in Drops!  And for those who talk about Ebron, Ebron should have had dozens more catches and a few more TD's but he ALSO dropped a lot of balls.  Imagine if we had a guy like Ty Williams who is FASTER, runs BETTER routes AND can CATCH the ball!

Clearly you just like to complain. I don't have to imagine about TW(who I like), I live live in reality. I'm going to try to imagine Funchess having a big year, till I see other wise.

Have you ever seen Cam Newton throw a football?

I'm tired of hearing about catch %(not necessarily this post), when most of your targets are 3-4' too high or short hoping you. Cam Newton accuracy is atrocious.

  5. There will be crazy competition in camp at WR.

    1. TY

    2. Funchess

    3. Rookie/Inman

    4.-8.Rogers/Cain/Fountain/Ismael/Johnson

    Whoever else we may scoop.

I could still see us throw out a $6-$8m towards Cole Beasley.

I don't know how you sign Futchess for $13 M but let Humpries, who in my mind is 10 x the WR that Futchess is, sign with someone else for less.

Just crazy and imo Ballard has already blown this.

    AB gone.

    Bell going to be gone.

    Humphries gone.

    Williams going to be gone.

Wish we could add you to that list.

All these negative comments are just too funny to me.

That is great to know. Ebron isn’t very good at blocking. This guy is basically the same player as Ebron but just listed as a different position. Maybe we will be able to use him on the entire field and not just the red zone like Ebron.

Don't really see Funchess as inline blocker, he's nice out on edge and downfield. I'm sure McCaffrey is going to miss him.

Doesn't mean it will happen, but I could see them going in with an either/or plan on Collins/Mosley.   It's how they view the defense - it's all about tackling, rallying to the ball.

No doubt, ot just seems to be linong out that way.

Seems to be down to Baltimore, Cleveland and Indy.

    Bring him in CB.

    Funchess, Mosley, Za'Darius/Preston Smith, Amos/Dix

    Then smash the draft.

Under the Thomas signing with SF I am not seeing the Colts signing of Nelson or the trade.  Instead it is showing TB signing T. Mathieu.  Nothing on the Colts.

It still shows it for me. Was thinking for a moment after reading your post that it might change, but it still shows the Colts moves. Have to scroll down more.

Your thinking the Lakers pick will be top 3? There is almost a 100% chance that that is impossible

No, I don't think that. It was more tongue and cheek, but I wouldn't be surprised if it actually happened.

It's not 100% impossible though. Top 3 seeds are drawn in the lottery. So 13/14 seed can grab a top 3. Just dont be surprised if Lakers miss the playoffs if they jump into top 3.

What was your opinion on when CP3 got snatched away from the Lakers in 2012 after a deal was already done? Owners from small teams such as Dan Gilbert complained to Stern about that trade and the trade then got nixed?? Lakers clearly got screwed in that situation but Laker haters just laugh that off. CP3 was a top 5 player in the league at the time and would've been paired up with Kobe, that team still would've been good for years had that trade been allowed.

-Just now as the Lakers were trying to trade for AD, Gregg Popovich advised the Pelicans not to do the deal and not to help the Lakers. How is that not some sort of tampering? Popovich had nothing to do with the situation. There is a lot of shadiness going on the league besides how the Lakers operate. I also agree that James Harden's game is somewhat phony, he gets every call and half of his fouls is where he just throws his body into people, he is unwatchable. Seems like he shoots 20 FT's a game.

To the first point. I hated it, that Laker team would of been amazing, although I really don't like Chris Paul very much, great player, just not for me. The big thing about that though at the time the NBA actually owned the Pelicans, so they can make that decision I suppose?

If you actually look at the trade CP3 to Lakers, I think it was better for NO than the LAC trade was.?

To the 2nd point, no question. The league is shady. Can't believe they continually allow Harden to get away with traveling, pushing off and flopping. The amount of FT's he gets really disgust me.

Wouldnt be surprised if the Draft Lottery ends like this:

    #1 NYK

    #2 BOS(Sacremento pick, slips up to 2)

    #3 LAL(miss playoffs, hit lotto)

"These West teams aren't just going to conform to the Lakers nonsense tactics". How are the Lakers tactics nonsense? They didn't do anything that was nonsense.

Look, after the Pacers, the Lakers(grew up Magic Johnson fan) are the next team I root for(unfortunately they have LeBron). Anyway, just a little background, before my comment.

I believe the tactics, he is referring to is obvious. It isn't individualized to AD, they pulled same stunt with George, Kawhi...etc.... They have been tampering with players for the last 3 years.

AD, also just hired LeBrons agent within last 2 years.

Dont forget last year they picked up Caldwell Pope, who coincidently has LeBrons agent as well. So they could start talking about Lebron last year unofficially(illegally).

Even being a Laker fan as well, I'm hoping AD and Kawhi end up in LA, on the Clippers.

I would actually respect these guys more for not going to play with LeBron, even when he is on downside of career(still ballin).

Hopefully LeBron era ends sooner than later, so I can enjoy rooting for them again.

NBA is a shady business, it is Sports Entertainment. WWE

I personally have not watched a game in 2019. Once James Harden had 27 free throws against the Grizzlies, I couldn't take it anymore.

Looking forward to Pacer playoff games, other than that, I'm not to interested at the moment.
