Wentz is where the wagon is hooked. Rightfully sop. Too bad it ends up broken on the side of the road before reaching the destination and Foles has had to give them a tow a couple times already.  I'll be somewhat surprised if Steelers let Bell go without trying anything for compensation, same with Eagles and Foles. But they might. It will be interesting to watch this off season.

They would/could still get a compensation pick. With Steelers it might be their only option to get compensation for Bell.

And who would have thought Amari Cooper or DeAndre Hopkins would not have a big day against us.  I was telling you there's nobody this team can't beat if we play our game well

We can beat them but Hill AND Kelce is completely different animal than just Nuk or Cooper. Watkins too if he's healthy. Reid is also much better offensive coach than O'Brien or Jason Garrett. He's a bad game day coach, maybe his only real big weakness (loyalty to his staff might be another) and he's even lost playoff games because of bad game management.

And didn't Manning used to own him when he was with Houston?

Well yes, but Peyton owned pretty much everyone.. And pretty much everyone owned those Texans Ds. Expansion team + bad GM = bad defense.

Mayfield was a walk on, went 5-0, got hurt.  Then the troubles with Kingsbury began... and then he transferred to Oklahoma. Mahomes went to Texas Tech the very next year.

Yes but he went with Webb before Mahomes. That link doesn't say that it was Kingsbury who convinced Mayfield to play at Texas Tech.

Efficient and dangerous are two different things. Just saying.

For me, those are very closely related. Williams can't impact the same way the passing game as Hunt but as a runner, he's been more efficient and efficiency is probably the single most important thing.

Ya but they were a lot more dangerous when they had him though since then they aren't as lethal running the ball.

They have actually been more efficient running the ball with Damien Williams, though via lesser attempts.

I can see why you say that. Colts were league worst against the run in 2006 and the same narratives, given past playoff failures, were being propagated by the media.

The flip side to it is that the Chiefs' pass defense numbers can be inflated due to the fact that teams want to play keep away from them and ran more against the Chiefs thus leading to fewer passing yards allowed by the Chiefs.

Chiefs were middle of the pack in rushing attempts against but first (as in most) in passing attempts against.

Not only that, but Kingsbury was also the offensive coordinator when Johnny Manziel was tearing up defenses at Texas A&M. Kingsbury was the offensive coordinator for Houston when Case Keenum was setting passing records there. Kingsbury had even convinced Baker Mayfield to come to play at Texas Tech, but he eventually transferred so Kingsbury went to Mahomes instead.  Involvement with three starting quarterbacks and two Heisman trophy winners. He was also coached by Mike Leach at Texas Tech. Pretty good resume'.

Do you have a source for that?

Mayfield transferred because of the treatment he got from Kingsbury and he wasn't promised the starting QB job over Davis Webb.. Whether Bakers was right or wrong, dunno, but Kingsbury first went to Webb but injuried gave an opportunity to Mahomes who then took the spot from Webb.

Is he the guy that will go against Glowinski?

Venturi said he was concerned about his matchup but I didn't get the name.

They'll probably try to have him going 1on1 against Glowinski as much as possible in obvious passing situations. Like mentioned above, the key is to limit those situations.

    From PFF's front 7 rankings

    Quote

The Chiefs’ front seven ranking depends almost solely on how you weigh each aspect. Judging by run defense and coverage they’d be at the bottom. Judging by the pass rush, they’d be right near the top.

    Wentz pros:

Currently a better QB than Foles

Higher ceiling for being abetter QB.

    4 years younger than Foles

    Wentz negs:

    Injury prone

    Foles pros:

    Super bowl winner and MVP

Has played well in limited time

Would come with 2 extra 1st round draft picks

There is also the cap savings. Wentz has one more year as a rookie and then the option year. After that he'll be really expensive but Foles would be expensive next year and Philly is really tight with the cap.

I see this as a horrible mistake by the Browns.   They have the best HC position available in the NFL and they are going to settle for a guy who has been a coordinator for 8 games?

It's looking better that we retain Eberflus.   Gotta love that.

Pretty slim pickings out there. Mayfield is obviously comfortable Kitchens. And they probably don't want to lose Kitchens after what he did with Mayfield and completely turned around bad offense into a great one almost instantly.

Other candidates either lack experience too, where failures in their previous stops or it's really hard to tell how good they really are (like Carmichael, Saints OC). And McCarthy but he hasn't been innovative for a decade. Interesting that Dorsey isn't interested in him apparently, as they both worked together in GB for many years.

  12. They'll stick with Wentz, just because of the resources they put up to get him. It also wouldn't look as bad if they kept him and he doesn't develop/gets injured and/or Foles plays well in his next stop as it would if they traded him and Foles would play like, well Foles and Wentz became perennial MVP candidate,

It's fair question though, why Wentz hasn't clearly outperformed Foles. Not sure if they even make the playoffs if he doesn't get injured. He has bad habit of taking sacks and fumbling the ball.

Yeah... horse poop. He passed because he knows he can't do crap without daddy bill and granddaddy robert helping him by cheating. No, it was a full, 100% spite move engineered by kraft all along.

I don't agree with that.. McDaniels has too big ego and is too entitled to believe he can't succeed without Kraft and BB. He wouldn't be taking interviews now either if that was the case.

This makes no sense at all.  You mean to tell me they did not discuss organizational structure during the interview?  What the job responsibilities were and who reported to who?  I'm surprised at Breer.  He actually bit on that: Hook line and sinker.  He just dropped a notch in my book.

Breer has always been an *. And a shill for agents/NFL, like Peter King.

  15.

Bortles was around 20th in TD%, INT%, TD/INT ratio, YPA in 2017.. They got to AFC title game on the back of their defense. Coaching staff blew the game but Bortles sucked too and they were kind of related since they seemingly didn't trust Bortles to throw the ball. If the Jax have a good QB in that game and it's a blowout. Even Yeldon faced 8man boxes about 21% of the time. With his contract I'd take him over Allen, Keenum, Tannehill.. and that's it. And Alex Smith since he's probably done. Winston is a tough one. Bortles has good arms strength and can scramble for yards. Not sure he is even solid at anything else.

They only played 2 games in the playoffs prior to the SB and Manning was below average.

Peyton was awful that year but they were able to get lot of FAs at good to great value (both starting safeties and Mathis on top of those mentioned) after Peyton had one of GOAT years in '13 and good year in '14.

But depending on what happends with the ownership, his seat probably isn't hot. SB buys a lot of time and being the most famous and beloved player in franchise history on top of that buys a little more.

    Tampa, Arizona, Washington (maybe)

WSH would surprise me. They are such a mess off-field, cap-wise, rosterwise, FO-WISE, everything that they probably can't get better coach than Gruden (who I think is ok/average).

Possibly, but the 5th rounder would still be on the team now, and into the future. Gordon is gone. At crunch time.  Pats get no compensation either.

That's impossible since the trade was 2019 5th rounder for Gordon.

  19. This from Next Gen Stats

Indianapolis' front seven has stiffened since their bye -- they've allowed the eighth-lowest rushing success rate in this span -- but they are quietly getting whacked by RBs through the air. Per Next Gen Stats, no team is allowing more passing yards per game to receivers aligned out of the backfield than the Colts (58.5). In fact, 23 percent of the Colts passing output allowed has come out of the backfield, the highest allocation in the NFL.

Elliott has run the 5th most routes in the NFL.

Regardless, it makes no sense IMO, putting Luck, Ryan, Mahomes and Newton in a discussion about records.

One hasn't even even finished his first season.

Newton is a career 59.7 Pct passer.  His rushing TDs are immaterial as a QB. Vick is a good example!

Well I kind of do agree with your first point.

Comp % alone doesn't say much. He does lack the precision accuracy (especially on short throws) that the elite guys have but makes up for it with a strong arm, somewhat. This season he's completing almost 69% of his passes, a clear career high by huge margin, despite not being any accurate than he was in '14, '15 and '17. Maybe even less because of his injury. They just changed the scheme in Carolina as Norv Turner came in.

His rushing prowess allows him to be effective QB and hard to defend despite not being great pure passer. He would be average at best without his running skills. Vick would've been bad if he couldn't run, maybe not even starter material. But he remained one for a long time because his rushing made him that much harder to defend.

Tracking! The conversation went from Manning, Brady and Brees to Luck, Ryan and Mahomes.

Newton does not belong in that group! His rushing numbers do not make him a Tier 1QB.

Dgambill's post wasn't about ability, it was about records. And some of Newton's records are far less likely to be broken than anything set by Ryan or Luck. He isn't as good as Luck and probably not as good as Ryan but Ryan has had better weapons throughout his career. And lately it's been clear his shoulder is in bad shape.

Matt Ryan doesn't have exactly many seasons as tier 1 QB either. '16 with Shanahan and maybe this year. Not sure how long he remains at that level as he's already losing arm strength.
