I think one of the problems with this year's Free Agency is that there's a TON of money out there waiting to be spent.

So many players are being given contracts that have never been seen before no matter how good the player.    Flowers,  Mosely and Collins (just to name three) were signed to deals several rungs up the ladder from previous positional highs.    It's no longer good enough to make someone the highest paid at a position....   they now have to get the highest by a LOT.

Crazy Money.     And we have a GM who refuses to pay Crazy Money.    And I'm very OK with that.

Agree with your general point but while Flowers got big money, it wasn't positional high.

Edit. I guess you could say that since he got the most guaranteed money for a DE. But I group those just as edge rushers.

He doesn’t have to retire to get his way.   He just has to be difficult enough to scare teams away.    It’s now worked once.

Im not defending him.   Just explaining  how he can pull this off.

That I agree with, was just responding to the part that Steelers can't get cap relief if he retired. However, the exact amount would be decided by a neutral arbitrator, not NFL.

Brown has say because he can tell the team trading for him that he doesn’t want to be there.   What team wants to trade a high pick and jay a large salary to someone who doesn’t want to be there?   That’s why the Buffalo deal crapped out.

Also, the NFL would never help some  team — any team — with salary cap relief.   Everyone operates on a buyer beware policy.   The other 31 teams would go nuts.

Brown received big signing bonus from the Steelers and if he retired, Steelers would be eligible to get back most of it.

Who knows if they extend castanzo ebron and doyle

Castonzo is pretty much a must extension as of now. Might change if we draft an OT early this year or he falls off a cliff next year. I'd hope we keep at least one of Ebron/Doyle.

You pretty much have who I have in your Top 10 except I would have Kobe instead of Hakeem in mine. Duncan makes my Top 10 so we agree on that. No disrespect to Hakeem but IMO Kobe was the more impactful player during his career, especially in the playoffs. Hakeem did win 2 Championships but Kobe won 2 without Shaq even. Kobe also has more career points. Regarding Bird, Bird's teams were loaded with HOFamers. McHale might be the most underrated PF of all-time. He made the top all-time 50 players list that the NBA put out. They also had Robert Parish and Dennis Johnson, and for 1 year Bill Walton. All of those players made the HOFame. The 2 players I struggled with leaving off my top 10 were Hakeem and Oscar Robertson. Had Karl Malone won just 1 Ring I would've considered him as well. Karl was really great.

I could see a list something like this:

    1. Michael Jordan

    2. Magic Johnson - He was the best player on all the Lakers Championship teams (nothing against Kareem but he was), even in 1980 as a rookie. He won MVP of the Finals even in 1980.

    3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    4. LeBron James here

    5. Wilt Chamberlain

    6. Larry Bird

    7. Shaq O'Neal

    8. Bill Russell

    9. Tim Duncan

    10. Kobe Bryant here to round out the top 10

I think McHale and Parish have a case as top 50 players all time but not clear cut. Dennis Johnson doesn't belong there and Walton was way past his prime when he played for the Cs.

KAJ was imo better than Magic early on but Magic deserved the finals MVP in 1980. KAJ missed the final game of the series and LAL won it handily with Magic being far the best player on the court.

Hakeem increased his scoring significantly in the playoffs compared to regular season (25.9/gm vs 21.8/gm) as for Kobe it was lot smaller increase (25.6 vs 25). Hakeem's efficiency also spiked more, though Kobe also had an increase there. They rank relatively close in Playoff ppg compared to their peers during their careers. I think they were almost identical in how long they were All-star caliber players but Hakeem was the best player in the league for 2 years imo, 3 if not for the GOAT. For Kobe, I think he was the clear cut best player for only one season in his career. But he did have more chips. So I think it's close but I'd give Hakeem the edge.

Other than that, I think out top 10 is pretty similar. I could put Duncan higher, as Bird had relatively short career and Shaq got too lazy towards the end of his career.

That PFF grade was still pretty good. My suspicion is Clinton Dix would be much better in Coverage than Collins. Clinton Dix has been in man coverage schemes ever since college. My unknown with him is would he be an effective zone player? I already know hes physical and could play in the box. You can blitz him and other stuff, but i just dont know if hes a zone guy.

It was but declined heavily afterwards. GB isn't and wasn't pure man coverage team and safeties have a lot of zone responsibilites on man coverage defenses. Especially free safeties were HHCD played mostly. He can play physical but got soft recently. Along with missed tackles and weird coverage busts, he's probably not what we're looking for.

Would Ha Ha Clinton Dix  not be a better fit if they brought another FA safety in to go along with Geathers?  Which I'm not too sure we'd bring another big dollar safety in if we resigned Geathers. But assuming we did why would Ha Ha Clinton Dix not be a better fit?  I do know that he's almost exclusively been in Man Coverage schemes since college so maybe that's the counter argument.  I don't know.

HHCD has had his own issues.

Hate or him not, Kobe Bryant is a top 10 player of all-time. He is the 3rd all-time leading scorer in NBA history and has 5 Championships. He won 2 Championships without Shaq so he proved he could win without Shaq. Regarding LeBron, he is top 10 all-time too IMO but not sure where to rank him? As I have stated I do not have either above Jordan, Magic, or Kareem. Also on pure dominance alone, Wilt and Shaq were the 2 most dominant forces of all-time regarding the paint area. Kareem was just more skilled than those 2 and had range because of his Skyhook, he shot FT's much better than those 2 as well. Kareem is also the all-time leading scorer in NBA history. One key reason why Magic has to be top 3 is because he faced an equal in Bird in his era and got the better of Bird's teams 5-3 in Championships.

I think there's a case for Kobe being outside of top 10. MJ, KAJ, LBJ, Magic, Duncan, Shaq, Wilt, Hakeem, Russell and Byrd.

Jordan is the clear #1. I think Kareem or James is #2, the other #3. Wouldn't put Magic as high as he had so stacked team, inc. arguably the second best player all time as his teammate on every chip he won (though Magic was better on KAJ later years). And west was relatively weak back then.

Bird though, arguably didn't have a teammate that would rank even in the top 50 all time. And still beat some great, great teams.

Hate to admit it but I haven't watched Landon Collins play much if any. Didn't he struggle big time his first 2 years? How would he fit into our defense? Is he to replace Geathers or?

Struggled on his first year. Dropped weight, was allowed to play exclusively SS and took of his second year and has been one of the best safeties since. He's better the closer he is to LOS. Not a typical deep cover 2 S.

I'm not sure they can, I've not looked at the numbers recently, but if they are rumored to be letting Clowney go due to money reasons, I'm not sure they take on Bell.

They have 75 million in cap space. They could easily have both.

But they might not want to pay to players premium money on DL (Watt and Clowney) and they need 3 new starters on OL, where their biggest need is and might want to put their resources there.

Autry 9 sacks in 12 games in 2018.

Jarrett 6 sacks in 16 games in 2018.

Autry is going to make roughly 5-6 Million next year.     Jarrett is going to get roughly $15-16 Mill.

What's to disagree with?      Those are the facts.

I appreciate that PFF ranked Jarrett high and Autry low.     Then again,  I don't know that Ballard views the 3-tech that Autry plays as a run stopping position as much as a pass rushing position.   So, Jarrett having a better all around game is great.    But if he's not getting home to the QB,  is he really worth that much money to Ballard?

Last thought....    I'm not reading anything, anywhere that says the Falcons are going to let him go on to the market.    They will either re-sign him,  or tag him.

So this exchange is just an intellectual exercise.....

I already explained the performance part in that reply. There is more to performance than just sacks.

And they probably will keep him, one way or the other. Suh might be the only interior DL in prime age (and without red flags) that hit the market this past decade.
