All I'm saying is look at the price.    The projections are for Jarrett to command a salary of 5/75-80 with about half of that guaranteed.      Jarrett has 14 total sacks in his 4 years with a seasonal high of 6.

Denico Autry, who Ballard signed for 3 years and less than $18 Mill total,  just recorded a season of 9 sacks in 12 games.     Why is Ballard going to pay someone $15-16 Mill a year for less production than he's getting from Autry?      Just because Jarrett may be the best available,  doesn't mean he's worth what it would take for Ballard to sign him.     We're already getting more performance for less money from Autry.   Plus we have Lewis in his 2nd year,  and Hunt who played well.    We have a number of candidates for that position.    I don't see Ballard blowing his budget on someone who is good,  but not great.

Don't know if Ballard is interested at Jarrett at his price but I strongly disagree we are getting more performance from Autry already.  There is a lot more to performance than sacks, especially interior guys, Jack Crawford also had 6 sacks for ATL last season. He's not even close to the level of player that Jarrett is. Jarrett had more QB hits by fair margin than Autry. Pressure rates, impact against the run how much player needs to be double teamed etc are all factors.  I highly doubt that Autry can maintain that sack production though I think he will be a good pass rush threat from the interior. He might even improve quite a bit and still not reach the same level of sacks. FWIW, PFF ranked Autry as #60 interior lineman last season. Jarrett was #5.

Folks are forgetting that Anthony Davis says he WANTS to play for the Lakers..

The Knicks and Celtics aren't going to give up 4 players and two No. 1s for a guy who wanst to play for the Lakers.  AD isn't Paul George..

..and the Lakers offer this summer wont be what it was his month/

New Orleans cannot begin next year with Davis on the roster....

I cant explain why they turned down 4 players and two No. 1s

I don't think AD directly said that and his list of reported places he'd sign an extension with also included the Clippers, Knicks and Bucks.

-My point is that this summer, Dell Demps will not get a better offer than the Lakers just offered them because AD will be a 1 year rental to every other team. Ainge will not give up someone you say that is better than Kuzma (Tatum) and a ton of draft picks + Brown and Smart for a guy that will only stay 1 year.

Lakers offer will be there in the summer and then there is the possibility that the Knicks offer will be even better. If Lakers sign FAs instead they don't have the cap space to sign AD when he becomes FA in 2020. They aren't going to sign 1 year deals next season like they did this year and punt another year with 35 yr old LeBron. Either they go hard after max FA or Davis.

If the AD to LAL door gets slammed shut, the market for AD might explode. He might expand his list. Ainge might think he might sign an extension with them and go hard after him since he can't sign with Lakers. If Knicks want to get Kyrie/Butler/Durant in FA they could be big players in trade for AD. As those FAs might not want to join Knicks unless they get another superstar, like AD.

I would be so down for Grady Jarrett even at 15M per year. I think he’ll actually get more, probably just above Geno Atkins and Kawaan Short, so around 16.5M. As long as it’s structured right so we aren’t guaranteeing a ridiculous amount and get stuck with him for the entire contract if he underperforms or gets hurt. I don’t worry about that with Ballard though, they’ve done a great job at that so far. I do believe he’d be worth it. He’s right on par with the second tier DTs that are just below Aaron Donald.

As as far as the other two, I like the thought process but I’d go with different guys. Jordan Hicks and Adrian Amos I believe would fit better. I don’t think Alexander is that good and Collins fits better in a box safety role. He doesn’t cover deep very well. Hicks is great in coverage and Amos can play pretty much any role on the back end.

    This, everything in here.

Alexander does play MLB (Lavonte David plays WLB for the Bucs) but he lacks size which hurts him in the run game and he misses a lot of tackles. He's also played the full 16 games just once in his career so far.

Hicks has better size, is better against the run and IMO in coverage too. He does have injury concerns too, though.

Collins didn't want to be drafted by the Panthers in 2015 bc they'd have used him as a linebacker. So they drafted Shaq Thompson instead. Then he had a bad rookie year with the Giants at S and Spags considered moving him to LB. Collins dropped weight and became the player he is today. The further he is from LOS, the lesser impact he has. Doesn't make much sense to sign him to play cover 2 S.

Thanks, and to a point, both Norwell and Jensesn have the same resume as Glow.  They weren't highly touted coming out of college, but managed to put together some good professional years.  So the market for THOSE TYPES of Gs may have softened.

I could see Norwell and/or Jensen possibly being cap casualties because of not living up to their contracts, so how much money will they really earn over three years?

Jensen is similar, other than being a C. Norwell started from day one and was good from day one and ascended to a great player. Glow wasn't good, was cut and then became really good in his final year.

Norwell has already made almost as much as Glowinski will make over the life of his deal. And 41.5 M over three years. 32M for Jensen.

The Broncos OL was complete trash. They totally fell apart in the second half vs NE and also gave up the most sacks per pass in Superbowl history which had nothing to do with Peyton being in a wheelchair. Kony Ealy had three sacks in that game and has had six in total since. It is actually somewhat remarkable that Peyton managed to play well vs Pittsburgh and for the first half vs NE.

Their OL was bad but their interior neutralized Kawann Short and Star Lotulelei pretty well in the SB when really no one had done that all season.

Lets not kid ourselves, Osweiler wasn't beating the Pats in an AFC Title Game setting against Brady and Belichick. I get he and Denver beat them in the Regular Season but Regular Season and Playoffs are different. Peyton played good in that AFC Title Game. IMO Osweiler would've crapped the bed on that stage. BB was going for it on 4th and short that game too because he still respected Peyton even at the noodle arm stage.

BB was going for it on 4th down because he respected their defense that much, he didn't think they would be able to drive down the field again and they also needed a touchdown and 2 point conversion to tie the game. Peyton was shot when they went for those 4th downs (Broncos went 3 and out after both of those failed 4th downs). His legs and arms were only good for 15-20 throws or so per game after he had injured his foot earlier in the season. He was 8/15 for 55 yards and was sacked 3 times between that 2nd touchdown early in the 2nd quarter and when Pats went for it on 4th down for the first time.

However, I'm not convinced Osweiler would've won that game. At least by week 3 of the following season, Pats had figured out that Osweiler can't handle disguises (he and Texans were shutout in that game).

Since Brady was named starter Belichick is 23-9 without Brady.

In 2008 Brady started 1 game and was injured and the Patriots went 11-5

In 2016 Brady was suspended the first 4 games and the Patriots were 4-0 and finished 12-4.

    Those are the facts.

They didn't lose to the Bills in week 4 of 2016? They didn't finish 14-2?

Running out of 11 personnel worked, they just didn't do enough of it.

To me, the gameplan needed to be running out of 11, and play action out of 11, and basically nothing else. Sharp's breakdown shows they also could have relied heavily on passing out of 12, which is fine.

Tempo was another thing, they should have been going quick, but hardly ever did, which I think played into the Patriots gameplan with late clock adjustments. You want to beat amoeba defense? Snap the ball quick, catch them out of position, and force them to get set early in the clock.

I hated the Rams' gameplan, and I complained about it all game long. Goff was awful, but I think McVay was just as bad, and that's setting aside whatever was going on with Gurley.

I think they avoided fast tempo bc they couldn't sustain drives but Pats were, at least much better than them. McVay didn't want to gas his D like had happened to many Pats opponents in recent seasons.

Why? Clowney is hardly a premier edge rusher.  Excellent all around player, but if I'm looking for an edge rusher, he's not that high on my list.

I agree. Too stiff. Can't bend. I'd rush him from the interior on obvious passing downs. And he's good on the interior against the run too.

I agree that every game and every pick is different, and I never said that more picks than TDs = a bad game by the QB. But in 17 seasons, every other team is 4-51 when the QB throws more picks than TDs. The Pats alone have six wins with Brady in that time period. That statistical anomaly speaks for itself.

I checked what those games were. AFCCG and SB this year. The Lee Evans game. The Tuck rule game. Marlon McCree game. Rivers torn ACL game.

With lackluster talent and no cap space? Their rebuilding rather they want to admit that or not. Ill even go as far as to say they can be the worst team in the nfl next year

Their GM is probably on very thin ice and doesn't have the time for a rebuild.

No idea how he's still employed but if they suck next year, on the GMs 3rd coach and 6th year when his team record during his tenure right now is 27-53... he's probably done.

I would beg to differ.  Supposedly, Spygate was such a big deal because it highlighted "systematic & organizational cheating".  If coaches are the only ones who are aware of the other teams formations/play calls, do you really think that all of that info can be communicated to players (on the field) given the few seconds they have between the time a team lines up and the time the ball is snapped?

Yes. It's not like the players should be looking at the coaches signals anyway.

I am confused about this statement?  How can "cheating" be implemented on the field without the players having any idea?

Again, you should listen to James Harrisons discussing HIS experience on a NE team which went to a SB and how he witnessed something much different than he expected when arriving in NE.

Like in spygate. Players don't need to know how coaches got the info to make that specific playcall.

  15. Depends. If I want to extend him, I'd do it now. Tight ends don't make a lot of money so they get at the current market only 2 guaranteed years. So the guaranteed years in my proposed extension would be next year (when he's unlikely to be cut) and 2020. 2020 is the only real 'risk' or wasted money if he falls off the cliff next year. Along with maybe couple of million extra he would gain for next year. But if he doesn't regress heavily, the extension would tie him up at cheaper price than it would cost to extend him next year and at lower risk, as it's essentially one year extension in GDT money as we're not going to cut him next year.

If he's been a good teammate and has worked hard, has so no signs that he would mail it in after getting paid and no injury issues etc. I'd extend him. From what I've seen, I'd do it. He seemed like 'stay far away' type of kind in Detroit and I wasn't happy with the deal but I was wrong on that.

I should note that his catch rate and yards per reception didn't really improve from his Lions years. Catch rate was actually the 2nd worst of his career. He might be due regression to the mean in TDs so I would be hesitant to give him significant raise. The genius offensive mind of Caldwell didn't just realize to use him as a RZ threat in Detroit.
