  1. Great story!  Thanks for sharing that. I love reading about the great Colts of the 50s and 60s.   That is the most I ever read about Big Daddy.   I think too often people act as if the Colts came to be when Peyton Manning was drafted or when the team moved to Indy, so it is nice to give them more material to read about great Colts.

  2. How could we forget Bubba Smith?   :)  "Big Boy my Bubba..." Loved the commercials with his Mom.

I will add Lydell Mitchell to our list.  He had his best years with the Baltimore Colts.

I also like to bring up Joe Washington.  While he was only with the Colts from 1978-1980, he epitomized the term All Purpose Yards. He was really one of the first guys that I remembered as a true specialist in terms of punts and kick returns.  I always refer to his big game in a rainstorm on MNF.....I thought I remembered against the Jets.   I was WRONG...it was the Patriots.  Here is an excerpt of his game from Wiki:

His most memorable performance was on September 18, 1978 in Baltimore's 34–27 victory over the New England Patriots onMonday Night Football, when he had a hand in three of the four touchdowns scored by the Colts in a fourth quarter in which both teams combined for 41 points. He helped lead off the scoring by throwing a 54-yard option pass to Roger Carr. Washington followed that up with a 23-yard touchdown catch from Bill Troup. Washington broke a 27–27 deadlock by scoring the gamewinner with a 90-yard kickoff return in a rainstorm.[1][2]

Joe and Lydell were exciting...... :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:  :blueshoe:....and loved Bubba!!!   :)

Joe Washington's performance against the Patriots you brought up was the single greatest performance I have ever seen by one player in one game.

  3. Randy Moss is physically the most talented receiver I have ever seen.  Even more than Jerry Rice.  However, a couple of things knock him down a bit. His willingness to take plays off.  Secondly, he had a few years there with bad QBs/Oakland where he did absolutely nothing.   I think had Moss played with the 49ers as Rice did, he would have been the greatest ever.

So I would say Marvin Harrison was consistently the better receiver.  But Moss had far more ability.

  4. I don't thing age necessarily has to determine your favorite players.   I never got to see John Unitas play, but when I was in 2nd grade I read a book called "Johnny Unitas Ad The Long Pass".  That is what got me to be a Colt fan.  So the first time I watched the Colts, Bert Jones was the QB.  I love Jones to Roger Carr.  Or Glenn Doughty.  The Sack Pack of Fred Cook, Joe Ehrmann, Mike Barnes, and John Dutton.   Bert Jones was an amazing QB.   I also loved Curtis Dickey, Randy McMillian (The Big Mac Attack), Raymond Butler, Duane Bickett, Jon Hand, Jeff George (Yeah, I was excited they got him), Chris Hinton, Jim Harbaugh, Lamont Warren.  Thats to name a few before the Manning era.

I would encourage any younger fans to go to youtube and search for the Colts.  Watch Unitas and Jones play.  They were amazing.

  5. It was nice to see Luck not have to throw every pass at least 20 yards.   I think next year he will be a top 4 QB with Pep's offense.  He was totally miscast as the new Daryl Lamonica.   He is so good, he put up good numbers.  But that was not his thing.   He will do much better in the new offense, I believe.

  6. I really don't see Grigson going in that direction.  By comments he has made and his short history, he prides himself at getting players under the radar that are good players.  I don't see him going after big name, big salary free agents.

  7. You gotta give the Pats credit.  They traded a 4th round pick for him.  But since he becomes a Free Agent, they will get a comp pick back for him.   So they really won't give up that much for him.

  8. I don't understand these posts about adding Welker, Wallace, or Reed.  In the case of Welker, why do we want to break the bank on an old slot receiver?  We already have a Wallace clone in TY Hilton.  And Reed is too old.

When has it ever worked that a team goes out and signs high priced free agents and succeeded?  See Daniel Snyder.

Didn't you notice we have no offensive line?   We have receivers.

While you are at it, how about we sign Ray Lewis, Tom Brady, and Randy Moss.

I hope all the free agent signings are young, under the radar guys who still have upside in positions like OLine, Dline, and corner.  If we are going to add a WR, I hope it comes later in the draft or a middle of the road FA.
