  1. I think Harnish is the guy. I know he has no experience, but he has great ability.  Plus, Luck is like a block of granite back there.  I really think a backup to Luck is like a backup to Manning.  Unless Luck goes down with a neck injury that requires a fusion, we really don't need to worry about backup.  That said, I love Harnish's ability.

  2. Something that keeps puzzling me.  I see where Flacco is the highest paid QB and now they are talking about what Rodgers will get.  And Matt Ryan.  But the problem I see is the salary cap is not going up as fast as the elite contracts are going up.  So they are taking a bigger percentage all the time.  I wonder why that isn't being talked about?  The elite players talk about setting the groundwork for the next wave of players contracts.  But the division is getting bigger between the rich and poor in the NFL.  At what point does someone step up and say "Hey, I have enough!  I think taking 17% of the teams cap is enough"?

  3. I guess I don't really get the argument.   The Colts and the Ravens are two completely different teams.  Now, Baltimore can say they have had five world championship teams, and that is true.  But the fact is, the Colts won three of them and the Ravens won two.  And the team that won three is now the Indy Colts.

You could bring instance after instance, but a good one is the Houston Texans and Houston Oilers.  Completely different teams.  The Texans can't take the Oilers history.  That belongs to Tennessee Titans.

As I have said, I am a COLTS fan.  I was a Baltimore Colt fan and now an Indy Colt fan.  I hate it when they are treated like different teams.

  4. I don't think there is another player as valuable in the league, giving Luck's age.  But if I was forced to trade for a single player, I would probably trade for either Adrian Peterson or Aaron Rodgers.

Or I could always trade him to the Redskins for five #1 picks :)

  5. As I said, the whole idea is that because it is a different city is just silly.  The Rams recognize the Cleveland Rams titles.  The Cardinals recognize the Chicago Cardinals title.  The Kansas City Chiefs recognize the Dallas Texans AFL title.

I say you are a Colts fan or you aren't.  What city they are in is irrelevant.  If the Colts suddenly moved to Toronto I would be a fan of the Toronto Colts.

  6. There's a shock.  NOT!!   RG3 was annointed ROY the minute he was drafted.   Luck could have done nothing to win.   When Luck wins NFL MVP, that will be the ultimate!

  7. Well, I think the poster's point was that Luck was miscast last year.  Had Arians remained, I think we would have seen Luck take a beating for 4-5 years until the offense was finally changed.   This was the change I was looking for and hoping for.  i strongly believe that the offense next year will be much more consistent. The long ball is great last year, but it was very much hit or miss.  If the offensive line is addressed, I look forward to Allen and Fleener torching defenses.  Good post!

  8. Amazing era in Colt history. We had , or Baltimore had , 3-4 players that probably were pretty much "freaks of nature" (2 of them anyway) and were considered by most to be the best ever at the position. That being Parker , Unitas , Berry and I would include Liscomb . Parker and Liscomb were just so physically superior to the competitin , whie Berry and Unitas were ... well.. Berry and Unitas.

Thanks for reading the rather long story but I thought it was a humerous , amazing , insightful story. Glad at least one guy was interested enough to read it. I too love to read about the guys I watched years back. I was doing a little research for Bert Jones stuff and found that even though he was probably my favorite Colt , I really didn't realize that injuries just played so much havoc with his career. I knew about the shoulder issue but it seems like the poor guy was only really healthy a few years. Plus I found that he was always at odds with the * Tiger Irsay. That led to the trade to the Rams. Here were a couple excerts on Jones...

The widely respected scout Ernie Accorsi is quoted as saying that if Bert Jones had played under different circumstances, he probably would have been the greatest player ever. John Riggins has been quoted as saying Bert was the toughest competitor he has ever witnessed. On the eve of Super Bowl XLII New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in discussing his choices for the greatest quarterbacks of all time, described Jones as the best "pure passer" he ever saw.[3]

I am a COLT fan.  I as originally a Baltimore Colt fan, and now and Indy Colt fan.  I get annoyed when people act like the Baltimore Colts are a different team.  The first time I saw the Colts, Bert Jones was the QB.  If you look at what he did in 1976, that was one of the great passing seasons if you take it in the context of the 70s where completion percentage weren't high.  I remember Bert being hurt a lot, so Greg Landry, Bill Troup, and Mike Kirkland got to play some.  It is unfortunate that version of the Colts seem to be overlooked.   Joyce, Donavon, Lipscomb, and Marchetti were great.  But Dutton, Cook, Barnes, and Ehrmann were pretty darn good too.  Dutton and Cook were dominate. They didn't keep sack stats them but Fred Cook was like Richard Dent.

I am always up to reading about great Colts.  That was a very good story and I appreciate you posting it.  Good choice with Bert Jones being you favorite player.  It almost seems unfair that one franchise can say they have had John Unitas, Bert Jones, Peyton Manning, and now Andrew Luck at QB.  I cannot think of another NFL that can boast QBs of that level.
