  1. Disagree about C, see my other post.

As far as WR, I'm not sure we'll find one better than Brazil, Whalen or Palmer.   Now if he's a KR specialist, that's a different story.

I think you make a good point.  I, too, have called for a WR.  However, I do wonder who gets bumped?  Right now I would see Wayne, Hilton, Hayward-Bey, Whalen, and Brazil.  So do you draft one and carry six?

  2. I love how our biggest need the whole season And offseason has been o-line, and everyone complains when we go o-line in the draft... Lol

Maybe the greatest post I have ever seen!!!  But it is so true!  The #1 topic on this forum has been the O-Line.  So we go out and draft two more and so many people are complaining about it.  In fact, even after drafting our OG yesterday, many people added we still needed to upgrade center.  So we did!

  3. Since we are talking about annoying, I think the most annoying thing is when people post what value players are in the draft.  Like someone will say "We could have gotten him in the 4th".   Who says that?  Pro Football Weekly?  Mel Kiper? The postman??? We simply do not know what NFL teams know. Perfect example is I see Jesse Williams was mocked to the Colts in several drafts in the first round.  He hasn't been drafted yet and we are in the middle of the 4th!!!   So making a statement as if it is factually simply isn't true.

That said, I tend to trust what Grigson does.  After what he did last year, I will give him the benefit of the doubt until he flames out.

  4. Bert Jones was "larger than life" to me as a kid. I got the full Colts uniform for Christmas one year with the #7 Jones, I lived in that thing! I`m 43 now and any mention of the Colts just gets me as excited as ever Very lucky indeed

That is very cool. I am about same age as you.  I remember watching Bert Jones and I was amazed at how he could will the Colts to win.  Roger Carr was my favorite WR.  And I loved the Sack Pack.

  5. I woke up this morning just thinking about how fortunate we are as an organization.   I was too young to see John Unitas play, but he is what got me into liking the Colts by reading a book about him.  So to follow him up with Bert Jones is crazy!  I know younger fans may not knkow as much about Bert Jones, but going from Unitas to Bert Jones was not that much removed as Manning to Luck.  Jones was a VERY GOOD QB. NFL MVP.  What killed his career was injuries (he liked taking on defenders), and Robert Irsay dismantling a very young, talented team that Joe Thomas had built.  Had he stayed healthy with more stability, I believe he would be right there with the greats.

Anyways, we had a gap there for awhile, but then to come back with Peyton Manning and then followup with with Andrew Luck is just crazy good luck/stars lined up.   Enough has been said about them that I don't really need to add to it.

But it is not just QBs.  I know it has only been a year,  but to go from a Hall Of Fame talent evaluator like Bill Polian to Ryan Grigson, who looks like he could be one of the top guys in the league is such a luxury.  I think as a Colts fan we take that stuff for granted.  But look at a team like Dallas.  They had their run in the early 90s but since then, Jerry Jones destroys the team.  Look at Al Davis with his head scratching picks.  I love the first two picks we have gotten this year.   What jumps out at me is both guys have had to overcome great obstacles and have risen to the top of their game.  They both have a nasty streak to them. These appear to be the type of guys in want in a foxhole with you.

Lastly, what I find ironic is the connection between our quarterbacks.  Bert Jones was a friend of Archie Manning, Peytons dad.  As well as Oliver Luck, Andrews dad.  Not sure if there is a Unitas connection in there, but I find that interesting.

So it is very good to be a Colts fan :)

  6. Yeah I kid myself that the Colts will take who I think they might.  Polian was the hardest.  The only two I ever got right with him, other than Peyton Manning, was Addai and Morris. Grigson hard to tell.  So it is almost best to pick someone that goes against anything you might guess.  Like taking another inside linebacker or another TE.  lol

  7. Green Bay might have something to say about that. haha

John Unitas and Peyton Manning are arguable the two or two of the greatest QBs of all time.   Bart Starr was a winner but more of a game manager.  I don't think anyone would say Brett Favre is the greatest of all time.  Aaron Rodgers could be.  But so could Luck.  But we had Bert Jones while they had Lynn Dickey (who had a few good years).  I would take the Colts QBs as the best ever.  Actually, SF with Brodie, Montana, and Young were pretty good too.  But we have had four really good QBs.  Bert Jones is underrated because he got hurt.

  8. The Colts drafting Ryan Leaf and then drafting Michael "Ron Mexico" Vick is one of the scariest thoughts I could think of.  The only thing that could make that worse is if the Colts didn't pick Andrew Luck with the #1 pick last year.   Wow, amazing how a view choices can change history so much.

Thanks for John Unitas, Bert Jones, Peyton Manning, and Andrew Luck.  No other team can boast such a great legacy of quarterbacks.

  9. It would have been interesting had Peyton Manning played under a guy like Chuck Pagano. I know it has only been one year.  But Pagano seems to give the Colts that fighter mentality and toughness that I think has been missing since the 1995 Colts.  I know I will likely be attacked because the Colts won so many games with Manning at QB.   But I think if you take into consideration Manning's talent with the talent around him, they Colts underachieved.   Manning never had a combination of a balanced running attack with a solid defense.   The only stretch that every happened was the playoffs when they won the Super Bowl.

I have predicted that the Luck Colts will ultimately be more successful than the Manning Colts as far as Super Bowl wins.  And I think the reason why is because of the coaching and the strategy mindset.  Luck will be a major piece of a puzzle, where Manning basically had to carry everything.  I think Dungy was a bit overrated.  Great guy and good defensive coach, but as Jim Mora and Jim Caldwell showed, ANYONE would win as long as Manning was back there.

  10. Yeah, lets not forget that a lot of guys in the last 15 years are using iconic numbers from the past, just like guys in the future will do to guys we have watched over the last 15 years.  John Mackey #88 has been brought up, but one could argue he was the greatest TE of all time.  Mike Curtis #32 was a very, very good linebacker for a long time.  Bubba Smith #78 was good for a very short time before injuries derailed his career.  But when he was healthy he was a terror.

Bill Troup #12 was a great Colts QB. (OK, that one was just for fun.  He was a good backup to Bert Jones) lol

  11. Rohn Stark was highly criticized for being drafted so high.  But he was a very, very good punter for a long time.  Bert Jones was a great draft pick.  They sent a Defensive tackle to the Saints for the pick that got him.  I know he got hurt, but for 7 years,  he was a very, very good QB.  It is odd how the deal with the Colts.  With the Rams, they always include St Louis.  With the Colts, the world seems to act like they came into operation in about 1990.

  12. I thought that was great.  It was odd because Chandler Harnish would get to keep #8 if he missed.   So funny that he made the basket to lose him number.  I see he is #5 now, which is a number I ate.  Other than Joe Flacco last year, no a very successful number for a pure QB.  I would  have rather seen something in the teens.  Or #7 to erase the stinch of Curtis Painter and restore Bert Jones number to at least decent status.
