  1. The Texans are a good team, no doubt.  But my reasoning is I think the Colts are a far better them all around than they were last year.   And we beat the Titans in Indy last year.   So I see no reason to think the Colts won't win the division.   The Colts, on paper, are a very, very solid team.   If Pagano, Arians, and Grigson can get 11 wins with the talent next year, no reason to think this is not a better team.  Maybe we get 10 wins this years, but we are a much more dangerous team in the playoffs from my perspective.

  2. I think the Colts can win the Super Bowl this year.   For a couple of reasons:

    1) Since we don't have a lot of players who eat up most of the cap, we are able to have more mid level players at all positions.  If you look at our squad, I don't think there is a position you can say "Yeah, we are really bad there".  We are solid at every position.  In some areas, very good. This might not seem like much, but in this day and age of free agency, almost every team has some weakness. Especially teams who get top heavy.  The last few years of the Manning Colts, we had 8 really good players, and then a bunch of guys to fill out the roster.   That becomes more of the norm.

    2) Given, we had an easy schedule last year and got some breaks in games.  However, we were a very flawed team last year and still won 11 games.  With the talent brought in for free agency, from the draft, and players who are healthy like Chapman and hopefully Angerer, the talent has been taken up a few notches I believe.

    3) Pagano is a players coach and inspires people to follow him.   This is a guy who will make an impression on players 15 years ago who still talk about him.   He has a great blend of fire and compassion, while having a wealth of football knowledge.  He is the perfect coach for this team and will lead them to great things.  And I think Pep Hamilton's offense will make a HUGE difference to Red Zone scoring and offensive efficiency.

    4) Andrew Luck's is a special talent.   Not saying anything new here.  But he showed last year he comes alive when the game is on the line.  And it is not often you get a QB who can run like he can as well as being a good pocket passing QB who can read defenses and go through progressions so quickly.

I think the Colts are going to shock the league this year.  I am predicting right now that we win the Super Bowl next year.  Having been a fan for 35 years, I see something special about these team and its leaders.

Note:  I know the forum Nazi's will come in and say "I would like to see {fill in blank} play a little before predicting...".  Yeah, got that.  But the whole point of the forum is to talk about the Colts and speculate.

  3. Lots of bickering over a poll very few players participated in and nobody really takes seriously.

Great point.  It is kind of a joke.   Asking a minority of players to come up with their top 20 off the top of their head.  Doesn't account for who they play again.  I think they should revise it, actually have a list of like the assumed top 20 at each position, and have more players vote.

I remember when Donovon McNabb was crowned the better young QB then Peyton Manning.  All a joke.

  4. The Colts never had the talent to win more than one. Did the Colts have more talent than the steelers? patriots? chargers? ravens? No

What I meant is that the Colts had good talent at skilled positions.  But since they never put much into the lines, they couldn't stop the run or run the ball.  I think that cost them a least another SB win.

  5. I hope not.  I know this is a passing league now.   But teams that run and stop the run win the Super Bowl.  What was always the best way to beat the Manning Colts?  Run the football.  Hold onto the ball.   So I actually hope Luck has a solid season, but we have 1800+ combined rushing yards by our backs. That would make me happy.  If Luck throws 50 TDs, we will be an unbalanced team that is probably one and done in playoffs.

I admit, I am not sure why people want him to throw so much or break Mannings records.  How many Super Bowls did Manning win?  One.  Yet, we often had the talent to win more.  We should learn from that experience that it is better to throw less, run more, and stop the other team.   I like what Grigson and Pagano are doing.  Look how the Ravens shut down the Patriots in the playoffs last year.  We are building that same kind of defense.  If Hamilton runs the offense like Stanford, we should have a well balanced offense where Luck should be efficient but win a lot of games.

  6. Funny how the Forum Nazis always jump on someone if they dare speculate about anything.  "No, you actually have to see the person play before even suggesting something."   Isn't that the whole point of a forum, unless all we talk about is what happened last year?

  7. I have to say that the top 100 is a joke.  I realize it is rated my players and they play against the people.  But this is the "best players".   I love my boy Andrew Luck.  But are he and RG3 right now better than Eli Manning? Patrick Peterson?  Clay Matthews?  I wouldn't put them above those players.  And that is not a shot at Luck.   If you took players by position, Matthews and Peterson are arguably the best 2-3 at their position.  Luck is not one of the top 3 QBs in the league...YET.

  8. I am actually glad they adjusted this show a bit.  When they first did the show, Manning's 2004 season was #1.  Than when Brady threw 50 TDs, his became #1 on the show. But I am glad they don't just look at a passing season by how many touchdowns someone threw, because it doesn't account for games played and the defenses they played against.  I do think they have it right.   I can't argue with Marino's 1984 season because was head and shoulders above what anyone else was doing at that time.  I am glad they put Manning in front of Brady because Manning had a higher QB rating and could easily thrown 55 TDs had they played like the Patriots did.  So overall, I like the list.  Not sure about Culpepper in there.

  9. I just watched the updated version of the Top 10 Passing Seasons of all time.  They changed the top a few times.  But isn't it such a luxury as Colts fans we have

    #6 Bert Jones 1976

    #3 Peyton Manning 2004

    #2 John Unitas 1959

Now, once Luck comes up a season on there, we will have complete domination :)

It is so nice to have had so many great QBs .

  10. I'm surprised you guys don't have Delone Carter making the team.  He has potential and is still young

I agree with you.  They have talked about him being the power runner between the tackles.   So I don't see why everyone thinks he should be cut.

  11. I'm sure you could run the Redskins offense, right Shipp? Griffin does progress through his reads, just like everyone else, so I don't know where the heck you pulled that from lol. And 12 and Flacco are "greats"? Oh dear...

I would agree that would have been a horrid thing.  To get Manning for RG3.  Ouch!  I think RG3 is destined for an injury plagued career of what could have been.

  12. For a few years, Jones, Carr, and Mitchell were one of the earliest versions of "the Triplets". I know it was coined for Dallas, but in reality, one could argue that the Colts early triplets were one of the originals...Also, we had a defense that actually had a nickname...The Sack Pack of Dutton, Barnes, Ehrmann, and Cook.

I miss those days of football...

Dutton and Cook were as good as Freeney/Mathis.  In fact, Dutton was a much better run stopping than either.  However, they didn't play that long with the Colts.  Cook reminded me of film I have seen of Deacon Jones when he just flies off the ball.

  13. Don't know if you guys saw this, but placekicker Toni Linhart passed away on May 12th. He was the placekicker who kicked the winning field goal in the fog bowl against the Miami Dolphins 10-7. He was a good team mate of the great Rodger Carr.

I didn't know that.  What I remember about Toni is his unusual kickoffs.  He would start at the ball go to the side like he was kicking a field goal, and kick it.  Some guys do that now, but at the time it was weird.  He was a very good kicker.
