  1. That was a very good team.  Ironically, they reminded me of some of the Manning lead teams.   Great offense, great pass rushing defense, but probably needed a bit more on the run stopping and secondary.

Jones was a madman. I remember a game against the Seahawks when Mike Curtis was on the Seahawks.  He hit Jones and Jones just tore into him.  Jones had no probably running reckless. It cost his his career, but he was tough.

Carr.  Wow!  Not too often a guy with that size is that fast and is a quality NFL player.

  2. Remember them all very well. Not sure as I really but Jones may have been my all time favorite Colt. He just had such a flair about him. Saw much of the Unitas years too . Amazing that Colts fans have had those two in addition to Manning and now Luck. Too bad Jones didn't last a bit longer.....

Yeah, hard to find a team that can say they have had QBs at the level of Unitas, Jones, Manning, and hopefully what Luck will do.  I heard someone say once the Green Bay Packers.  They had Starr, Favre, and Rodgers.  But I would take Jones over Lynn Dickey or David Whitehurst.

  3. It still amazes me that is in 1976, when Bert Jones was the NFL MVP, Roger Carr almost 26 yards a reception and had over 1100 yards receiving.  That is insane!  For younger fans that didn't get to see them play, it was like watching a Bruce Arians team.  Jones would just bomb away and Carr, Doughty, and Chester were there.   Carr was extremely fast, so it was hard to cover him. Just think a taller TY Hilton but white.  6'3", 200 lbs, blazing speed!

And speaking of Jones.  He completed over 60% of his passes that year.  Right now, that would seem not so good.  But in the 70s, that only happened I think twice more in the decade.

They were a treat to watch!

  4. We don't really need to have a team of Pro Bowlers on defense.  In the modern NFL with the salary cap, teams are mostly made up of 6-8 core guys, and then a bunch of lower level guys.   We are in a great position that since our skilled position guys are mostly very young and on rookie contracts, we can put together a solid defensive unit across the board.   I think our defense, potentially, is a Top 5 defense.

And I don't consider Angerer a liability.  Not sure why people are down on him.  He was a tackling machine two years ago.  Last year, he was hurt all year and tried to play.  If this guy is healthy, he will be very good.

Finally, enjoy the balanced team.  Because 3-4 years ago when Luck and the skilled position youngsters get new contracts, we will start becoming like we were a few years ago.  A few really good players and a bunch of lower level guys.  That is just the NFL now.  I would actually love to see a team take the approach to never get into that unless it is with the QB.  What I mean is give Luck him money when he contract runs out.  But then continuously refresh the roster and trade away guys that are up for big money.  Sounds stupid, but Patriots have done that some.  You are running the risk of not replacing your players.  But you are able to put together a much more balanced team and pick up more draft picks.   Manning and Brady have shown you don't need great receivers when you have a great QB.

  5. Not sure what the issue is.  Arians is a straight shooter.  It is crazy to put players with 1 year experience over a guy who has Big Bens career.  And this is from a guy who HATES the Steelers and Big Ben.  And the Colts line last year was horrid.  The Cardinals have some talented young lineman on their team this year.  So I see nothing wrong with what he said

  6. I just hate when ppl try to tell me that RG3 is better then Luck it's just a dumb statement IMO anyone who can't see that RG3 and Wilson didn't have it easier has to be blind as a bat

It will soon go away.  Wilson and RG3 go as far as their running attack go.  Luck will leave them in the dust.  I actually think Wilson is better than RG3.

  7. That's a joke.  Joe Montana was a far superior QB than John Elway.  Let's not forgot that Montana won his first Super Bowl with a team of mostly nobodies. Bill Ring, Jeff Moore, and Lenvil Elliot at RB?  Dwight Clark was only good WR.  Most of the players were replaced over the following years.  It is completely false to say Montana always had great players around him, because he didn't.

John Elway won two Super Bowls because of the offensive line and Terrell Davis. Their running attack was so good that Bubby Brister probably could have won one of those Super Bowls.  Elways never had great statistics.   They talk about his comebacks, but that is because he often played badly for 3 quarters.   Montana never threw a single interception in a Super Bowl.

I think Elway is rated so highly because of his physical attributes and "The Drive".  But if you look at his career statistics and his miserable outings in his first few Super Bowls says much.

  8. I don't get Brad Wells at all.   I used to think he hated Bill Polian so much because some years back Polian made a comment that the gay community took some offense to.  Brad Wells in particular.  But not sure what Ryan Grigson has done.  He is always screaming for someone's head if they don't do what he thinks.  Once Polian left, I thought Wells would settle down, but now he is on the hate Grigson campaign.  Another thing he does is make up crap.  Like how Colts GMs keep players because of the money they paid.  Or how how Polian kept Curtis Painter because he drafted him.   That makes absolutely no sense.  Polian cut much higher draft picks than Painter.  Another thing to remember about Wells is that he has only really covered the Colts since 2006 so he doesn't have a real long relationship with the Colts.

  9. I am not sure  if this has been covered, but what is the guarantee that Satele still won't be cut??  They are going to keep probably the best 7 lineman.   McGlynn, although he sucks, can play guard or center.  So if Holmes shows a lot, Grigson may be thinking that McGlynn and Holmes can handle center at the same level or better than what Satele and Shipley were doing.

At the end of the day, Holmes is going to be our starting center at some point.  We  could get nothing for Satele.   Shipley would have been a decent backup.  So why not get something for him?

  10. As I have stated before, behind a bad offensive line, even Adrian Peterson would look ordinary.  Lets see how Brown looks behind a better run blocking line.   Brown brings big play ability that I love.   Not as fast, but like Chris Johnson.  If the guy gets a hole, watch out.  I think we need both of them as well as Carter.

  11. I liked Shipley better.  But maybe the idea was that Holmes will eventually be the starter and McGlynn (who I think sucks) can play center as well.  So maybe the idea is to get rid of both Shipley and Satelte.

  12. I wear 24 when I play CB or SS in Madden & NCAA. Someone should grab it, they'll instantly become my favorite player on the roster (Only if they're good haha)

Well they are at it,  might as well hope a QB wears 19 too.

  13. Sweet...I was hoping he'd get 92.  I've never been a fan of pass rushers with a number in the 50's like Von Miller's #58.  The 90's is my first choice followed by the 70's.  Just a personal preference with no real logical reasoning behind it. :D lol

I am used to the great pass rushing LBs beingin the 50s.  Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Thomas, and Andre Tippett come to mind.
