  1. I love Luck and think he will be a top 5 QB real soon, but I do believe Schaub was the correct choice. He put up better numbers, will have more wins, and has been more consistent.

If we could all be honest with ourselves, if the roles were reversed to where Luck had Schaubs numbers and Schaub had Lucks numbers, if Schaub were selected, everyone on this board would call it an outrage.

  2. It's not only that, Wilson is also playing on a team with a top-notch running game and the #2 defense, which forces a large number of turnovers, giving him short fields.

In the previous two games, the Seahawks scored 108 points.  In one game, Wilson completed 7 passes.  In the next, 14.  With a mediocre defense and running game, you wouldn't be looking at the same thing.

I don't mean so much of running a read option offense.  Even how we used to run the stretch.  You never knew it Manning was going to hand off or give to James, which froze the defense.  I think a little more uncertainty to the defense would really help Luck.  Just notice when RG3 or Wilson do a play action fake. their receivers are more often wide open.  Luck rarely has that happen.  So many times today there was nobody open and he had to throw it away.

That said, Luck was bad with throws.  I am sure i the off season his mechanics will be corrected.  Manning did the same before his second year and it was night and day.

  3. He will get looks without a doubt but I don't believe he would leave after one season. Norv Turner doesnt really seem like the kinda guy Irsay would hire, even if B.A. happens to go elsewhere.

And yes I would like to see more happiness concerning the Colts going to the postseason. 2-14 the previous year to now and seeing how good this Colts team can be for years down the road and I believe that Arians would rather be with a team that hes already building with. Seems pointless to start building a house if you just are going to have build an even bigger one and probably take longer.

Fair enough.  But at the same time, in November of last year discussions started on here as to whether we should draft Luck, get rid of Manning, or both.  Or talking about who we might draft.  Heck, I remember after we won the Super Bowl, there was talk immediately about how improve the team.   I like the fact that we can discuss different topics in here.   Celebrating the win, how bad the OLine is, the draft next year, and what might happen with BA.   I, personally, am not a big fan of BA long term.  But at the same time, I definitely wouldn't like to see Norv Turner, who I think is overrated.  I predicted this team to go 9-7 this year, which I took some flack for.  But, lets be honest.  We were fortunate to have a very weak schedule and a lot of things bounce our way.  KC today dominated us but we still won.  If we weren't playing so inept offenses, we would be in trouble.   I, personally, hope that long term if BA leaves that we run a system more like what Belichick does with the Patriots.  I hate the guy, but I have to respect him.   One week, they are a running team.  Next week spread offense.  Next week, Hernadez is running out of the backfield.  Next week, he is lined up at WR.  Belichick is the anti-BA.  BA has stated that he will run  what he is going to run regardless of who we are playing.

Now, if that sounds negative to you, I can respect that.  I am happy to make the playoffs.  But I try to be realistic.  Just like our last Super Bowl run.  Most people were saying we would dominate the Saints.  I saw a flawed team that could be had by underneath passing and little running attack.  So I always enjoy discussing what would make the team better.

  4. People who said that are clearly people not paying attention to the team.  We went 2-14 last year but had better than 2-14 talent.   There are teams in this league who would kill for Wayne, Mathis, Freeney, Angerer, Bethea, and Castonzo.  We were never like the 0-16 Lions that were void of any talent.  We just didn't have a competent QB.  Now that Luck has played solid ball for the most part, and we hit on the draft very well, it shows the "experts" they didn't know what they were talking about.

  5. I know this topic has been killed in many posts.  But I have to say again that I hate this offense.  There is nothing to ever cause the defense to hesitate.  They pretty much know when a run or pass is coming.  Compare that to what Wilson and RG3 get to do.  They have much better running attacks, but they will run multiple plays out of the same formation.  We telegraph everything.

That said. Luck just threw a lot of bad passes.

  6. Really can't believe this thread even exists right now. Here we are 10-5 and on our way to the playoffs with 4 starting rookies on offense, 5+ different starting offensive linemen sets throughout and people want to think about switching coordinators. Offensive play calling isn't the problem, players readiness is the issue and that simply comes down to having rookies. B.A. would be the first to tell you that they aren't rookies but they are. Enjoy the ride. Bruce's system has worked in getting Luck started in his career and he's got Luck breaking Cam's passing record.

There had been reporters who said this team would finish 1-15. Now is not the time to complain. Enjoy the ride. Chuckstrong.

I think it is funny when the "forum police" come in and judge what should or shouldn't post.  It is all speculation.  Would you rather ever post be about "how happy I am we made the playoffs".  Would be a bit of a bore.   BA is likely going to get at least some looks for HC.  So we better have some kind of plan in place.  So what is wrong with the topic or people discussing it?  It is all speculation.

  7. This. All this talk about OC's is maddening.

We're a 9-5 team right now with a HC fighting leukemia and our OC filling in as HC. And yet, somehow, we're going to be looking for a new OC because our current one isn't good enough? This is San Francisco logic of the 5 years prior to Harbaugh, and worked wonders for Alex Smith's career. <- And just so you don't miss it, that was sarcasm.

I am not terribly concerned that many will come Arians' way for a HC gig, but I suppose that's possible. But that aside, he gets another year to build on a good season here.

One should also consider the number of players we dumped and the amount of dead cap space we had, keeping us from bringing in any considerable amount of talent. That changes next year. I'd love to see this team with some added beef on both sides of the ball. If we can retain enough of existing contributors, we should be much better come next season.

It's a valid discussion. We talk about who we might draft, who we might get in free agency.   So why not ask who we might bring in if BA gets a head coaching job.  Would you rather have the RG3-Luck talk?   Its fun to speculate.

  8. Unlikely as it might be because of his age, let's say that Bruce Arians gets a head coaching job next year.  Curious who you all think might be a good candidate to bring in to run the offense?

I hope we can get an offensive mind like Chris Peterson of Boise State University.   Someone who plays to Lucks strengths while being innovative.  Just look how the Patriots can change their offensive around week to week.  I would love to have that too.

  9. He is very good and could be a top 5 tackle.  I think it is hard to judge him a little bit because everything around him is so bad, he is asked to maintain blocks much longer, and Luck moving around sometimes can lead to the QB not being where the LT expects him and then sacks.   He has all the tools.  Smart, great feet, great wingspan, speed, power.

  10. Guys and gals.  I don't think this is a good thing. Stanzi was the Iowa QB and a pretty good one at that.  Very good in the clutch.  In preseason he outplayed the other QBs last year.   Since there is not tape on him, it will be a bit harder.  I would have rather seen Cassell or Quinn.

  11. I think something to keep in mind in comparing Luck to Manning in their rookie years is that Manning got progressively better as the season went out.  If you look at his game statistics, most interceptions came early and by the end of the year he was more often throwing more TDs then INTs, as well as his completion percentage going up.  Luck hasn't had that bump.  If nothing else, he seems to be getting worse.  Obviously, the lack of an offensive line is affecting him.  But it is alarming how often his throws high balls.

  12. Why do people keep saying this?

Kinda depends on what we do in FA, doesn't it?

I agree that we'll pick up plenty of defense this off season. That and OL, but to say the draft will be defense heavy is not a given.

You nailed it.  Grigson will draft according to his board.  If that best players are offense, that is who he will draft.  No way he goes into the draft thinking "We have to go defense"
