That's the problem with trying to tell how good you are from playing against your own team. If something good happens to one side is it the result of that side being good, the other side sucking, or both?
-
Lol.
Let's just say it's clear that Mario Harvey is a blocking fullback, not a receiving one. #Colts
— Josh Wilson (@JoshWilsonSB)
July 24, 2014That means he's really good at blocking right?
-
Hmm maybe I should draft some Colts RB this year.
-
Too early to matter, but I wonder why Mewhort wasn't backup RG if they expect those two to battle?
Probably hedging their bets on Thomas. Also Lance Louis in the mix changes who backs up whom.
-
According to Dwayne Allen, he is 150%. Can't wait to see how the extra 50% works.
Dwayne Allen reproduces via mitosis. Currently we have 1.5 Allens and at this rate we will have 2 full Dwayne Allens by season's end.
-
What about Allen?
Wasn't he already working out at minicamp?

Oline competition and Richardson's progression in the system.

he cut back to the weakside for no good reason.
There was a very good reason: the unblocked defender in the hole who would have tackled him regardless of whether he ran to the hole or followed the FB outside. Richardson didn't cut back when the NT got through he cut back we he saw the unblocked linebacker there. He basically had no other choice.
-
You're actually providing footage to prove why he won't improve. The fullback sealed that end as good as you possibly can, he full on pancaked that defensive end. If Trent goes where he is supposed to go on that play, that's a big run.
That is a standard power run, the guard pulls play side, that fullback kicks out and absolutely obliterated that end. That play is designed to go inside, or he breaks it out play side. What does he do? He tries to bounce it out against where ALL OF THE BLOCKING is going. Just a stupid read. It's inside, then out. Not, inside, then bounce it back to the wrong side and get smothered.
If he runs off tackle, it's him and one safety, exactly like it was designed. That is good blocking right there. The defensive linemen that gets in the backfield is a NON factor, if he is going where he is supposed to.
Just follow the fullback with your eyes and you'll see where that play was supposed to go.
You are looking at the blocking at the end of the play and ignoring the unblocked linebacker in the first hole and unblocked nose tackle in his face. He never had time to get to the end where the fullback made his block because everyone in between failed miserably.
-
But the ONLY reason we drafted Fleener ahead of him is because of Luck.
Not necessarily. Part of drafting is your valuation but the other part is guessing what other people's valuation is. If you think a player is far better than everybody else does you should still take him later just before they would take him and use your earlier picks on people you think are good that other teams think are good too. Doesn't always go according to plan but DA draft position looked like that too me.

When I looked at the article I could see where both the O-line certainly had issues but also where Richardson seemed to be too slow to get to the hole that did open, if even for a second or two. I would say that the O-line issues contributed to Richardson's inability to adapt well to the new offense and made him hesitate more than he normally would. Add that to trying to learn a whole new playbook and system and you have a back that is very ineffective.
I am willing to see what he does this season before I judge him too harshly. It looks like he has the ability to be a high performer for us and be that workhorse back. He just needs to be comfortable in the system and have a somewhat decent O-line. Doesn't have to be stellar. Just good enough.
You need to have the ball before you can hit the hole. Our line was so bad that it often collapsing before Richardson had even taken the handoff. That's not an issue of getting to the hole fast enough.

Not all blocks are executed as designed. It`s like this guy doesn`t get that good RB`s read the blocking and make GOOD cuts.
For the many here that do watch the blocking under close scrutiny, it was clear he wasn`t assessing things well/quickly quite often.
Thankfully we threw out the garbage and it IS a clean slate, New season for All! Yippee! Go running game.
Of course not every block is executed successfully but what the author was showing was that practically none of the blocks were executed successfully. This means that the cut back lanes aren't there because everybody blew their assignment. Good cuts still require good blocking somewhere on the line in order to work.
-
The problem was both, The O Line just stunk all to hell run blocking a large chunk of the time but Richardson also missed holes by not being patient(The adage slow to the hole fast through the hole) and running up the back of some players or going to where the hole is supposed to be open INSTEAD of going to where a hole actually IS open...That's called vision....It needs to improve as well
Vision relies on the assumption that your linemen can block. If you wait for the hole to actually exist it's often too late.

he pays for everything with 20's
When you consider that he hated central banks and closed the US national bank it's kind of ironic (or a punishment depending on your views).

Does the team stretch after workouts and practice? Something is wrong with the multitude
of injuries every year and needs to be figured out if we are ever going to be healthy
enough in the playoffs to make a serious run for a title.
Have you not seen pictures of football players all on their backs in neat rows stretching? It happens before games and practice but it doesn't prevent all injuries.

I no longer have access to IndyStar stories. I'm blocked from reading them.
If anyone here can summarize the article that would be great appreciated!
Thanks.....

That's fair. A big chunk of change. I'm not sure how you suspend an owner. His daughter can still consult with him during his suspension
Pretty sure it means he is not allowed to go to games or interact with the team in any way.

One interesting thing I have noticed during OTA's is that Andrew Luck looks thinner. Maybe it was just the angles of the pics that I saw, but he doesn't look 240 anymore. Maybe 225 or 230? Anyone else notice this too?
I don't really see it. Are you comparing to gameday photos?
-
so this isn't a big surprise to anyone that he isn't participating in OTAs
Since when have facts gotten in the way of a good "he sucks get rid of him" session?
-
when was his surgery?
February.

This could be tough. The Colts play 3 games against teams coming off a bye, the most in the league this year.

Is Reitz the last one?
He hasn't officially signed his tender AFAIK so he's not showing on official lists but it seems likely to be him.
-
I didn't even think it was that many.
I'd have to think about it more but off hand the only guys I can think of are Wayne, Mathis, Vinny, and McAffee
Anyone know who the other 3 are?
Castanzo Don't know the other two.
Edit: Fili Moala. Still can't think of the last one.
Colts approach to injuries, "soft tissue" (merge)

Something just seems odd about this. Why would the coaches use "soft tissue" to shame a player when the coaches are the ones holding them out of practice?
