This makes some sense....its very likely that the Ravens have very good familiarity with Shipley and how to perhaps exploit a weakness he may have. I like Shipley and he looked very good last week....but we ain't talking about Mike Webster here.
This isn't intended to be a knock on Shipley...and we are talking about a Ravens defense that usually presents a pretty stout Front 7.
It may actually be a match-up decision...and a smart one.
Except that doesn't happen in the NFL. You play your starters regardless of what team they were on before. You might mix personal packages to gain favorable matchups but I find it highly unlikely to believe that an NFL team benches their starting player because they are worried their opponent might know him better than most. The only reason you bench a player is when you think another player is better regardless of who you are playing.

This Shipley experiment reminds me of the Saturday one. A produce of who's around me. Saturday was truly hyped up because of Peyton's quick release. We had Glenn, Diem and Scott. Once those guys were gone we could do anything. Peyton was getting sacked more and we could run the ball. Ryan Lilja wasn't too bad either next to him.
I think you are missing some n't in there.

The de-cleater block by Jack Doyle on that play was one of the best highlights of the game.
The look on the guys face too. He thought he had an easy play on the ball.

Could be a healthy scratch?

Excellent breakdown as usual by Kyle, Glad he also mentioned Thorntons key block on that play as well, if Thornton misses that block then it doesn't matter what Allen and Doyle are doing because Richardson does not get anywhere close to that far, But excellent use of getting Doyle and Allen up to the second level, Also in my opinion I'd consider throwing 1 more wrinkle in that play design....If Cherilus is physically capable of reaching that Linebacker comes across his vision like he did (#95) then Im telling Cherilus....go up and get that Linebacker if he cross your line of vision or actually that goes for any other player that crosses his line of vision...He got caught ball watching on that play
Cherilus ball watches every play. Its really frustrating watching him block someone well then just stop because he figures the play is over only to have the person he was blocking make the tackle.

pep was calling an ok game in the first half but completely failed to adjust in the second half and made classic pep % calls.
-
I really hope he plays. Also Chapman and Jones too. I've got TRich and Allen on my fantasy team against McCoy and Ertz and I'm down by 6 points. Let's go Blue!
-
The run defense has been stout since preseason, it's pass defense & pass rush where we go brain neutral
Depends on the availability of Chapman and Jones.
-
LB or Adams depending on how we are lined up. Ertz is not that special to game plan around. We need to game plan how to generate pressure and stop their run game while dealing with whatever crazy stuff Kelly pulls out of his hat.

Turkey bacon vs bacon bacon.
You have this backwards right? Bacon bacon is far superior to turkey bacon. Putting Turkey bacon first doesn't fit your patter of putting the better thing first.

Imagine the Colts Defense in the second half, then add Mathis
Now take Mathis away again.

I thought antennas were made obsolete about 4 years ago?
Analog ones were. Broadcasts switched to a digital signal. There are digital antennas that can receive these signals.

The author does a whole series of "Why X team sucks" every year and it always covers every team. Some are better than others. It's easier to write a post about why a team sucks when it actually does suck.
-
Keep in mind the coverage schemes are usually pretty basic in the preseason. If they were fully game planning I doubt they would have an LB cover Graham.

Thought this was interesting. -
I'm watching the forum to see who sends out the first panic post. Last year it didn't take long for someone to assess our teams seasons outlook based on one preseason game.
Got to love it!
Are you including the first "We're going to gone undefeated" post too?

Richardson and Oline blocking

So how much are we expecting the 1st team to play on Thursday? I am really interested in watching Trent Richardson play.
A drive or two depending on the length of the first drive. Probably 10 plays at most.

Please, don't keep us hanging, and fire that joke away!
Still waiting for OP to post a joke...

Toler, Landry, Bradshaw and Thomas had injury histories when Grigson signed them....that might explain some of it.
* just noticed this has already been pointed out
Every team signs players with injury histories. Not every team ends up at the bottom of games lost due to injury.

I tend to agree. It may be wise to review our processes.
And since it spans multiple coaching staffs/GMs, I'd lean towards it being something systemic. I wonder if both the training and medical staffs have remained the same throughout.
Eitherway, top to bottom review, isolate the constants in both medical & training staff personnel and then investigate the processes in place.
If there are no constants regarding personnel then look at ethos/doctrine.
If there are no ethos/doctrine overlaps then "Houston, we have a problem!"
There could be somethings that stuck around after a coaching/regime change. It might also help to find what teams are consistently at the top and compare what they do.

Being in the bottom 25% of the league 8 straight years is not just bad luck. There has to be some other factor at play here and the Colts really need to figure out what it is. 8 straight years is too unlikely to be random bad luck.
Just how unlikely? If we assume "bad luck" to be completely random and that any team has an equal chance of ending up each 25% bracket the odds of being in the bottom 8 times in a row is ~65000 to 1.

[insert inappropriate language]
I think it's appropriate in this case.

I like his attitude but I want to see how he does back in the spot he is used to along side a center who (hopefully) won't leave him out to dry every other play before I decide if I like his ability. Last year showed he has some work to do.
Pagano doesn't commit to Shipley starting at C.

Mewhort's injury could be a factor if you were considering moving Shipely to guard while he is out. The previous poster was talking about benching Shipley because he played for the Ravens and they might know him better. That just doesn't happen.
