Do you think with AR as QB, we underutilize AP much? Brian Thomas has run a more varied route tree than AP coming out of college against the best competition. The reason he is the 4th WR is that he has been locked down by press CBs like the 2 first round CBs Arnold and Kool-Aid more often than not. Heck, even Randy Moss and Reggie Wayne were locked up by Darelle Revis but they were worthy enough of being played by the best to begin with.

TDs in spades, that is what Brian Thomas Jr. and Adonai Mitchell bring to the table. Mitchell played 2 years at Georgia and 1 year at Texas, he is more seasoned than Brian Thomas Jr. if you were to ask my honest opinion, so I wouldn't complain about him. There is however 1 WR that has given fits to every 1st round CB he has gone against, that is Ladd McConkey with his route running. So, if Ballard were to move back and get one of Brian Thomas Jr., Adonai Mitchell or Ladd McConkey, I am not complaining, each one brings a lot of strengths to the table and the rest is up to Reggie Wayne to coach up.

FWIW I was actually asking the question, not being passive aggressive. I’ve watched the least amount of film this year than I have in 10 years. Mainly listening to podcast lately so I haven’t been able to watch any of the WR aside from what I saw this past fall. I do believe AR will push the ball down the field much more frequently, I feel that even when AR was on the field he was still held back from throwing the deep ball by Shane.

MHJ or Nabers would absolutely be the missing piece. The rest seem to have glaring weaknesses. Mitchell seems like who I would prefer but the way he left Georgia could be of concern? I really need to sit down and watch tape though.

Utterly ridiculous for the Colts to cut him considering this ruling.  Maybe a lawsuit would follow any such action by the Colts. There is such a thing as innocent until proven guilty.

You are aware that he didn't get cut right? He got put on the commissioners exempt list, he is still on the list and it is up to the NFL to decide if anything suspensions or fines happen. If they decide nothing and take him off the list then he goes right back on to the Colts roster...

  3. I’ve really been thinking Mitchell lately but there is a glaring issue with that. It’s that with our scheme we don’t require a true lock down CB. It’s easier and cheaper to find a zone CB than a top tier press man CB. I don’t see Ballard spending a top pick at CB when edge rusher, WR, possible tightend or even a DT are sitting there unless it’s truly BPA

  4. I would put some money on the fact neither of these players will end up being there at 15, but in this scenario they have both fallen and I have also won the lottery.

Mitchell is a stud, if he wasn’t a small school prospect he wouldn’t get out of the top 5-7 picks. In my opinion he is ahead of Wiggins and had one of the best pre draft processes. Dude can ball and I don’t think there is any doubt, in my eyes he may be the best DB to come out since sauce.

Bowers is a stud and no doubt a blue chip prospect who if he falls it will only be because of his position. He’s been touted as one of the best TE’s the past 2 seasons and I absolutely feel like he’s lived up too it. A little strength training and work with blocking and he will be a complete tight end.

Both guys can be difference makers on our team. Which one are you going with?

My wife and I are in our early 70's and lost our best friend of 151/2 years a couple months ago. The void was so terrible that she went out and bought a new Golden Doodle puppy. The thing has its days and nights mixed up and is terrorizing us. Sorry for being a little harsh in my response to you .

Sorry to hear about your loss. It was another golden retriever or a kid, so my wife got a  puppy instead. Jokes on me though because I'm the only one that's been up with the puppy the past 3 nights lol She sleeps for 2-3 hours and then is back up. Gotta love crate training... Sister has her today so hopefully my nieces are playing with her enough that she will sleep a bit more tonight.

There's betting  "on his teammate" and betting "against his teammate." Let's say the line was Taylor at 85 yards. Betting the over would mean he gains over 85 yards. That would be betting ON his teammate. Betting under 85 yards would mean he bet AGAINST his teammate.  So ... please show me proof of he bet "against" his teammate. The article you have quoted states the EXACT OPPOSITE.  " Isaiah Rodgers Sr. confirmed the abundance of bets he was involved with, and that he won $1,000 for betting on then-teammate Jonathan Taylor."  Notice it says he won 1K from betting ON not against his teammate. ON not against.

I apologize, I misread it as on a teammate and not against a teammate. Running on 3 hours of sleep thanks to a new puppy so my bad lol

Where did you get all the inside information on that bet ? saying he bet "against a teammate " is pretty reckless and most likely not true. I've read a few articles and find nothing to support your conclusion that he bet against Taylor . Considering the year that taylor had , I would think the bet he cashed was on the over and not the under.

Say's it right in the article and it came straight from Rodgers

"In his first public comments since being suspended in June by the NFL for violating its gambling policy, former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. confirmed the abundance of bets he was involved with, and that he won $1,000 for betting on then-teammate Jonathan Taylor."

What demise are you talking about?

Malik Hooker has been mostly healthy and is playing well since Indy didn't re-sign him. And, Indy is still looking for a FS.

I guess I was talking just about his time with Indy not Dallas. He’s been a solid player for the boys but still not quite the Ed Reed type FS he was slated to be.

True. Elite traits seems to be the overwhelming bias Ballard has. But still I take him at his word when he says his philosophy is to build from the inside out. IMO only Hooker deviates from that on players drafted in R1 or acquired via 1st round pick and we have a reason to believe Ballard really thought Hooker would be special FS. I think at the time there was a leaked photo that showed Hooker's card on the Colts board and they had him ranked as the 3d best player in the draft.

I did then, and still do now, feel like Hooker was a panic pick. They admittedly didn't bring him in until the very last moment because they didn't think he was going to fall. I don't think they did their due diligence on Hooker and when he fell to them they panicked and took him thinking a blue chip prospect they hadn't truly considered was there for the taking. He was uber talented and man did he flash, but injuries was his demise which was the question mark coming out of college.

Maybe with a little more time they could have avoided the pick? I still wont hold his very first class against him though.

Day 2 for Mitchell. And mind you, he’s supposed to be a zone/off man corner. Some have said he’s the best player at the senior bowl.

FWIW his PFF grade is absolutely insane. 2023 overall is a 91.5, a dip from his 22 season from 92.5.... for 2023 Coverage grade is 91.6, man coverage 88.7 zone coverage is 85.9.    His competition isn't great so this week is huge for him.

some other grades of guys at CB

Cooper Dejean 2023 overall 77.4, coverage 76.8 man coverage 63.7 zone is 73.1

Nate Wiggins overall 81.6, coverage 82.9, man coverage 78.5, zone is 74

Terrion Arnold overall 88.3, coverage 84.9, man coverage 61.2 zone is 81.9

    Kool-aid McKinstry overall 88.8, coverage 87.8, man coverage 74.7 zone is 83.8

Ennis Rakestraw overall is 80.7 coverage 78.7, man coverage 56.6 zone is 85.2

PFF is to be taken with a grain of salt still but that's insane for Mitchell to be graded that high.

  11. I saw this the other day and have been pondering it. Pierce is asked to do the dirty work to open up the rest of the field for everyone else. He runs more vertical routes then anyone else in the league so DB's are likely keying up on that and anticipating a deep route. So he is open about 3 times a game for a deep bomb so that does still validate peoples thought of him being open frequently. All while keeping his DB and a safety away, allowing more space for everyone else.

His tape is definitely good. Theres no denying that. But the same was said about Pitts. And that’s not to say Pitts still can’t be good, but he also played in the SEC and made defenses look silly. He put up 120 yards and a TD against Alabama in his final season in 2020. He also put a 100 up against Tennessee and Ole Miss. Not saying that its exactly the same situation, but there is a precedent here.

I think TEs struggle transitioning to the league sometimes because of athletic limitations and skill set. They’re basically bigger but slower receivers, who run a limited route tree. Unless you have a truly elite skill set and elite athleticism, it’s hard to flourish. And again, you need a scheme that makes use of the TE like the old Patriots teams where Gronk and Hernandez gave people fits.

I’ll have to watch more Browers tape. But I also wonder if he is that good, does he fit in a Steichen offense? I would think an elite WR1 would be more valued in a Steichen offense that wants to push the ball vertically with explosives.

Pitts is a weird case. He was always used as basically just a big WR in college and that is kind of all he is. He's not really a blocker, has a slender build and not overly physical. I'm not sure that he was drafted as a TE as more of a playmaker, he is still an insane match up in the pass game against a LB or a slot CB but all other TE duties he leaves plenty to be desired.

I think Bowers comps closer to T.J Hockenson with more upside personally. T.J was probably the most complete guy, albeit with the lowest ceiling, out of any other 1st round guy. Although the Lions traded him away his yards and TD's are still great for a TE
