Honest question: How good do you guys think Inman is?

To me, he's an average depth player. He's 30 years old, he's been in the league since 2014 and has one season over 500 yards and 40 catches, and I don't see that he does anything well enough that we just have to have him

As usual I like a lot of what you have going on.

I could go either way on Inman We have a lot of young guys at WR Pascal Cain Fountain Johnson even Rogers and then  Ishmael hung around on the PS last year.  We may bring him back but if we look at WR in the draft and FA. I'm not so sure we do but if we do he is going to have a hard time making the roster IMO. I'm not sure we want a 30 year old journeyman taking a spot at the bottom of the depth chart especially when we have the young guys CB btought in to develop. I dont think CB or the coaching staff will be as quickly to move on from the young players as the board is.

I think we bring Geathers back. He may be used differently and I expect we add to the position. Listening to the way CB talked about him and his work ethic, approach and love of the game.  He seems like a guy CB really values in the locker room. If Geathers wants to be here rather then chase greener pastures and I believe he does as does Desir.  We find fair deals for both.

       110-101  final..They hit 16 3s...

Short two regulars, it was a good effort.

But we dont have a lot of firepower when everybody's playing

Not having Sabonis really hurt tonight with Myles just getting back and the foul trouble. TJ has looked more and more like a NBA player. We need more from the PG position I think DC and CoJo combined for 14 & 7.

We couldve used the W but we have trouble getting out of Dallas with one. Wes really wanted it.  He has been what I expected. His 3pt shooting and D  coming off the bench when Vic is back next year would be huge. Hopefully the run he's getting will help make that happen.

Early in the interview Ballard said he wanted players that put the team first. Players that will put their stats in check for the good of the team.

    That eliminates Bell and Brown.

I don't understand why some just don't get what Ballard has said from day one.

Agreed Ballard has consistently explained his process since day 1. They dont't want to understand becuse it means Bell/Brown will not be a Colts. Those who think we are going to spend a ton in FA are going to be disappointed. This off season won't be much different then last year.

I look for Geathers Desir and Inman to be back. They have earned new deals and fit the mold as veterans in the locker room.  It doesn't mean those positions won't be upgraded through the draft or FA.

Okay, I know people think we are good at RB, which we are to a certain degree.

But... If Bell really want's to become a Colt and Ballard thinks he could be an upgrade and a good fit. I thinks this deal will be done pretty quick in free agency.

DeMarcus Lawrence would be a massive upgrade to the defence, but this one will cost a LOT of money.

We would be talking about a $100million plus contract.

I would love DeMarcus, but Ballard giving that much money away, seems like a looooooooooooooong shot.

Trey Flowers would cost much less, so I do believe we have to settle for a much cheaper solution, as I dont see Ballard giving monster contracts away.

I know Bell wont be cheap, But, IF Bell speaks the truth, I think signing him would be more plausible than signing Lawrence.

Free agency is only a month away, but rumors start hitting all over, so it will soon start to get interesting :)

Bell isn't setting foot in our locker room That's my opinion. As far as being set at RB. There's always room to get better. The kid from ISU Montgomery wouldn't make me mad.

He's got the size and speed....knows the system....and has a couple seasons of seasoning behind him. He's a converted QB just like Cain. He's got as good a chance as Pascal, Ishmael, Cain and Fountain....

We have some young athletes who could do some things at WR. Johnson is not just the most experienced but also the fastest in that group. I think he has a great shot at the 53 man. He will get a full camp this year.

Fountain is a kid who still intrigues me. He didn't get a combine invite but his pro day 42.5 vertical and 11'2" broad jump would have been tops in the WR group.  I'm not discouraged at all by his rookie year. We knew he needed time. His physical tools are rare.

Cain is on track to be ready this summer as well. It should be an exciting camp from a position group many see as lacking.

Justin Houston might be a pretty decent short term pass rush addition if the Chiefs let him go.  He fits our culture perfectly and we know he can get to the QB.

That's a cut I think happens. Houston is making big bucks I think his is the largest contract on the roster. He's not playing at a superstar level and Dee Ford needs a new deal.

Can anyone explain the Baldwin and Stauskas trade to the Pacers..to me?

Houston gave us a second round draft choice with the two players who we immediately release and its worth it to them because they get under the luxury tax 'bar' and save millions.

But how could we accept the two players without sending equal contracts or picks in return?

I'm not sure maybe because the Rockets are at the cap? I like it though never  a bad idea to make friends with a team that's as active as Houston is trading players.

That's a great way of putting it

    "We are going down swinging"

This is our last go-around with this particular group and now we have a chance to win at least one playoff series

I'm glad we didn't do anything drastic like trading for Conley or trading Holiday. I believe Pritchard and Ballard know what they are doing Both teams are headed in a good direction. Gotta think Mathews ends up the starting SG

Did you see the clip of Vic getting up shots from the training table? Love that dude.

...apparently..the New York Knicks will 'buy out' the remaining 1/3 year of the contract of 32-year old veteran guard Wes Matthews, who will become the newest member of the Pacers..

    Matthews (6-5, 220) averages 12 points and 2 rebounds a game

    ....37% on 3s, 79% from the line.

Dallas traded him to the Knicks last week in the Porzingis trade

This sounds like a very strong pickup. I dont know a lot about him probably because Matthews has played his entire career in the Western Conference

He's averaged 30 minutes a game for eight years.....

..scored in double figures every year for eight years.

Wes Matthews is the only undrafted player in NBA history to make 1,500 3-point shots (really?)

I did not see this coming but apparently management did.

Multiple reports say he was released today and will be signed today..

Clearly (and thankfully) we are not giving up on this season.

I like it too and remember Matthews from his days in Portland. He can play 2 or 3 is a solid defender and can knock down the 3 ball.  He will definitely help us moving forward and not cost 30M a year. This was a solid move by Pritchard sends a message to the team that we are going down swinging without impacting what we can do  this off season or losing an assets. Great move man it's nice have both teams in Indy in competent hands.

Yeah, well...that's because you quoted the part that strengthens your argument. You left the parts out where he talks about Deon Cain being special, and getting every opportunity to be that guy. Also, the part about Inman producing quality numbers in a relatively short timeframe in the system, and their expectation that he will experience growth in year two (should he be re-signed -practically a guarantee-).

I'm with you I don't see Ballard taking a WR day 1. I'm guessing pass rush might be there early and yes the best way to predict someone's behavior is looking at their past.  That and listen to them.

I don't think Ballard sees WR as the huge hole the board does. I think he tries to get better like he will at every spot on the roster but it is not a 911.  He addressed it last year drafting Cain and Fountain snagged Pascal as an UDFA then traded for Johnson. There were growing pains but WR isn't a position you see a lot of rookies making an immediate impact.  I am not saying we stand pat just that CB doesn't see that group totally void of talent. I agree we bring back Inman.

I agree unless we can get Conley for a bag of chips. Meaning draft picks and maybe Evans. McDermott, and Collison so the salaries can match. Conley was as great as Dipo was when he was in his prime and still is very good. He is an Indy native and is an excellent chemistry player. He is 31 but 100% healthy. Conley is a former all-star and the combo of him and Turner to go along with Bogey, Sabonis, and Thad is intriguing.

I don't get as excited about Conley. He was an All Star level player but at 31 years old his best basketball is clearly behind him. He's not going to make a significant difference where we end up this year. He will eat up minutes that could go to developing Holiday and Sumner.  You gotta play the kids if you want them to grow ask Chris B.  That's not even considering the 30M+ he's due the next couple of years or his long injury history.

That deal looks like it'll be there this summer if that's the best we can do then ok. I don't see how bringing Conley in today really benefits us.  I'd rather play the youngsters sit on the cap space and see what we can do this summer

Who knows if Davis is gone NO may be more inclined to move Jrue.  I'd love to get him to Indy It might sound pretty good to him to play with his baby bro on a contender back in the East. There's always talk of the Blazers breaking up their  backcourt. CJ can ball.  There should opportunities to improve this summer and I can think of a 100 directions I'd rather go.

  12. 6 hours ago, oldunclemark said:

I think Holiday is untouchable...too young and promising

We have 6 players on expiring contacts? Why consider giving up give up a 23 year old rookie who is under contact for 3 more years? A rookie who now gets to play because of an injury at his position?

It wouldn't make very sense to trade him unless he was a piece that gets us a legit All Star to pair with Dipo. That's the only way I'd let him go. I'd like Jrue come to town talk about an athletic backcourt when Dipo gets back.  NO reportedly has no interest in moving him.

Aaron and Sumner have shown flashes. They both look to be part of the future.  The experience those two get could be the silver lining to the Olidipo injury.

  13. Mack is now our main RB and had over 200 touches Hines was drafted to catch balls and he had 63 receptions this season. Both guys are doing what is asked of them. If we decided to use Mack differently I'm sure he'd do fine

No biggie.  Glad you had a pick instead of just being negative.   When did St Brown go in the draft.   To lazy to look it up.  How did he  do as a rookie

St Brown was a 6th rounder selected by GB. He finished the year in concussion protocol which was unfortunate as he put together a strong Dec. He finished the year with 21 for around 300 yards. He looks like he has a future in GB. I'm sure you guessed I'm also an Irish fan and liked St Brown day 3.

As for Fountain this board is becoming comical how quickly it gives up on yuoung players. The kid dropped the ball but there was a reason he was running wide open.  Fountain is an explosive athlete who has the size and speed you look for. He was a project who worked his way into the most important game of the year. I wouldn't count him out just yet. Something to think about: he was the MVP of East-West game and part of that was returning punts, 2 for 40 yards.

    1.   Never led....    106-103 loss....really.not as close as that score would suggest

Just didn't shoot well....32 of 74 from the floor..

Bogdonavich had 21, Collison 18 and 9 assists  but we have some offensive issues which, isn't a surprise

    Up next: Golden State Monday...wow

GS isn't going to be easy. If Thad could've stayed out of foul trouble things probably are different in Memphis. I think we need to see more mins for CoJo  I'm sure Nate will get if figured out

I did not know that about Barkley. and I am worried that Vic may not be ready for training camp next fall.  But if the had to miss a month or two next season, that's no big deal if he can come back 100%

I think we may eventually decide to start Holiday because Evans cant play 30-35 minutes a night with his old knees..…..Bogdonavich is averaging 3 points more this year than last but I agree, I think he has more.

Myles will get more shots now and he's got to give us more than 13 points a night. He's never been a score but now is the time.

The big question is Holiday.   He's very skilled.  Played 3 years in  college and has  sat and watched most of this year.

I really think he can average in double figures if he gets 20 minutes a night and he WILL get 20 minutes a night now.

Big game tonight. If we start the post-Vic season with a road win, it would mean a lot.

Evans has been a big disappointment We may want to give the young guys some of his mins..  I think Vic will be back by the preseason The thing that concerns me is does he get his explosiveness back That's a big part of what he does. We know it won't be because of a lack of work can't question his work ethic. That makes me feel better knowing he will put the time in. Also will this be similar to Luck when it comes to bringing guys in this summer? Without Vic we aren't close and it takes some shine off for FA's.

  17. 12 minutes ago, oldunclemark said:

    I agree.

The ball will go to Myles and Bogdonavich now at the start of games...

Collison is playing very well lately and this is the best I've ever seen Thad Young

We need McDermott to be the shooter we all know he is.

The Celtics won a lot of game shorthanded last year.

There's only 35 games left.....Maybe we can play on emotion for 2 months

The injury is a bit worrisome. Its what retired Barkley granted he was 34 or so. We all know Vic's work ethic so I'm confident he's back hopefully at close to 100% next year.

I've been saying since he walked through the door how good Bogy is. He will have a larger role and we haven't seen his total game. He's the primary ball handler for his national team. I don't want that but there's still untapped potential there. The more comfortable and confident he gets the more we get.

We all know what we think Turner can do. He's gotta shoot more now. If he can finally take that jump forward. We get to expedite Holladays growth. The injury blows no doubt but there can be some good to come from it. If Turner can grow over these last 30 some odd games it'd be huge.

  18. 24 minutes ago, 2006Coltsbestever said:

Ok there is 1 chance we may still have, that is bring in Mike Conley. Thing is though we can't give up Turner, Sabonis, Young, or Bogey in any kind of trade for him and still have a chance. Draft picks are fine if Memphis is looking to get real young and just want to dump Conley.

I don't think Conley gives us a legit shot of getting out of the East. You are underestimating what Vic brought to the team if you think we are replacing that with a trade deadline deal. He is our leader our heart and soul. He brought a lot more then just points steals etc. We aren't replacing that and it blows because I felt this team had a legit shot at the Finals. Heck we might have pushed GS if things fell perfectly..

I don't think I'd want Conleys contract anyway He gets  what 30M+ per year. This team can still play without Dipo. It's not like last year.  We could still finish top 4. We will need guy's to step up like they did earlier this year. We will need Turner to bring it every night. He's going to have to be that leader we all expected when that other guy left. We will get to see what we have in Holliday. Bogy can play I've been saying that dude is a lot more than a shooter since we signed him.

It blows Vic is out. He's a great dude and a fantastic player. Did you think we were beating GS this year? We might have gotten there but I think that was our ceiling. What if next year when Vic comes back he has a Turner that's finally playing like we thought he could heck thought he would, a more confident Bogy playing to his potential  and we know exactly what we have in Holliday.

That could be our silver lining. I don't think we make a trade trying to save the season. We don't need to. We may make a trade dead line move but it won't be about right now. This team has a lot of talent that's capable of doing some fun things and those things could really pay dividends down the line. Especially if one of those things is Turner taking the leap we've been waiting for.

I'm hoping Tyquan Lewis can make it out there.  We need him and Turay to add some young speed to the mix.  Personally I think we are going to get pressure against their O line.  I don't care what you tell me.

I agree I think we get to Mahomes too. Autry has been quiet time for him to make some noise.  You gotta think Eberflus we have a thing or two up his sleeve. As far a Hooker the only thing I've heard from is him is that he will play. How many guys listed as questionable really don't go? This thread feels like someone needed the drama

Why do lots of people on here like Fountain? I’m actually curious.

The kid has the size speed and athletic traits you look for. He showed well in the East-West game winning the MVP.  He was raw coming from a small school so the red shirt year isn't a huge surprise. That's why I liked him oh the fact that Ballard and Reich have remained high on him doesn't hurt. Those two seem to have pretty good eyes  for talent  That's why I wouldn't forget Johnson will be back and have a full camp

I believe Glowinski is a free agent.  If he wants to much kick Smith in at guard and draft a tackle.  Or keep Smith at tackle and draft a guard.  Depends on best player available in the draft. Lots of options. I am not going  to pay Glowinski a lot of money even though we have a lot of cap.

Glow will be back because we give him a fair deal. Do you listen to Ballard when he talks about building the team? I wouldn't be shocked if we added to the OL anyway.

Any one else surprised nyheim hines didn’t get a touch all day?  I don’t remember him even seeing the field.

It was Mack all day  Wilkins had 2 carries and Pascal got one. I was a little surprised but I'm fine with it. Mack is our best RB so let him eat. When we go committee I'd rather see Wilkins touches and use Hines in passing situations. Again I think Macks the most dangerous so no issue feeding him

I agree, I am just talking the first 2 rds. I would rather a pass rusher and cb. If we go wr I trust Ballard, if we dont I wouldn't cry about it. Because of ty and inman with hopefully cain being the player some think he might be.

I have never been convinced we'd spend one of the picks in the first 2 rounds on a WR. As far as Inman he'll be 30 in January it will be interesting to see how we play it. We have a lot of young guys at WR that should be getting better. We don't get to see practice but there's no question Inman has shown well for a mid season addition
